A thrill ran down the grey wolf's spine as he took a step over the border. Sure, he’d been in other packs’ territories before, but that had been on peaceful terms. This was something altogether new and exciting, and he didn’t know if it would turn out well.
As Toiro passed through the empty landscape, he could see no other wolves around, nor smell them. It was possible that they had seen him and were simply staying out of sight, but that didn’t explain why they would leave it this long to make their presence known. He was fairly far into the territory by now; he probably shouldn’t go much further if he wanted the safety of being able to escape back to Shyia.
This nice hill would do, he decided. It was wide and flat – the grass cut short by a recent grazing. Trees surrounded most of the rise, so a wolf could watch from the shadows if s/he so chose, although listening in on a conversation would be hard at that distance. If s/he wanted to talk or fight, s/he would have to come into the open.
Toiro took a strong stance, chest out and tail held high. He threw back his head and howled, his strong clear tones reverberating through the air. It was a claiming howl, but also an invite to the wolves still living in this territory. Of course, they would come anyway, but he wanted to make it clear that this was not an attack. Both of their packs needed members badly, and the departure of Airila’s beta and Isata’s alphess did nothing to solve either pack’s problems. They needed to join together if they were to survive. This territory would also be beneficial to Airila because it would give them a larger range of prey. There was also the fact that it was nearing autumn and the prey would be better here than in the colder territory of Shyia.
Toiro preferred to remain standing as he waited. These wolves knew the land better than him and could easily attack if he let his guard down; it would also be something of an insult to be perfectly relaxed in their territory, as if they were weak. Isata had a reputation for being a peaceful pack but that definitely did not equate to weakness, and he was sure that it would be a mistake to assume so.
((OOC: Anyone from Airila can just say they’re with him))
