History: Though her life began in Kairos, Liadan’s story begins much earlier than that.
A world away, in the dark tundra of Siberian Russia, a female pup was born into an unhappy life. Unbeknownst to her, Roka’s father had wished desperately for a son, and her birth caused the death of both her mother and brother. She grew up as an omega like her father, with no idea about her heritage until she reached maturity. The father, Braith, had been a prime candidate for the title of alpha, but without a male heir it was lost to a rival, and he was downcast to the rank of omega. With his life ruined, Braith took his misery out on his only daughter, and in the end Roka decided to take her chances as a loner rather than live her life as a sounding board for her father’s anger, or a plaything for males. Leaving pack life behind her, Roka disappeared into the snowy abyss of northern Russia until getting into a fight with a large cat over food. The clash resulted in Roka losing the sight in her left eye, and gaining a rather impressive scar. Not long after, she was discovered by hunters and rehabilitated to a zoo in Moscow, and then sold to a zoo in African once she had recovered. During her transportation, the ship sunk and she was lost at sea until washing up on the shores of Anikira.
A year or so prior, Liadan’s father Sabaoth was born into the world as a product of forced breeding alongside three littermates. He and his brothers all grew to a colossal size, though most of their similarities ended there. From a young age, Sabaoth displayed temperament issues; sulking often and prone to bouts of jealousy. Then, their pack fell. It fell prey to a bloodthirsty pack of wolves who wiped out almost everyone, but Sabaoth’s mother forced him and his siblings to flee by driving them into the water surrounding Ina’mos. He arrived on the shores of Anikira alone, cut off from his family and not knowing whether they were dead or alive. In his time alone, Sabaoth grew even larger and more ill-tempered, his anger stewing day after solitary day until, like a time bomb, Liadan’s father exploded. After a hunting trip gone wrong, Sabaoth went into a killing frenzy and clashed with a he clashed with a mother cougar. They fought a long and bloody battle which he won eventually, but not without gaining the scars to prove it.
The two met one day, Sabaoth now reunited with his siblings and having joined their pack, and Roka a wayward loner. The two joined out of season, their litter conceived just before Sabaoth left for the Agoge and Roka joined the mighty ranks of Kairos.
Personality: Born into a litter of three massive brothers, Liadan learned selfishness from a young age. She is uncompromising in her determination to put herself before anyone else, realising quickly that in a pack like Kairos, compassion will only get you killed, or worse. Despite her size, Liadan’s skin is as thick as any of her siblings, and it is almost impossible to get under it. She has a sharp tongue and a sarcastic sense of humour which often land her in sticky situations; Liadan tends to speak whatever is on her mind with no thought for the consequences – she has very little skill with word-spinning and is a terrible liar.
Liadan begins her life as a survivor. She possesses great strength, even if it is not the same type of strength that her family possess. It would take a lot to break her, she is feisty and spirited even if she doesn’t have the physical strength to protect herself from backlash. As a pup, Liadan feels strong resentment toward her siblings as soon as she understands the differences their futures will entail.
Most of the time, Liadan prefers her own company to the company of her brutish brothers, and she considers herself their equal regardless of what others say. Despite her lack of warrior prowess, she loves to pick fights with anyone and everyone; using her speed and agility to her advantage (or to escape if needs be), which earns her quite a lot of injuries from the bigger pups.
Growing up, she soon learns her lesson. The lesson being to only pick on those smaller or weaker than her. As a result, she can be quite the bully when she wants to. Call it an inferiority complex from growing up surrounded by giants, or just desperation to feel some control over her life in a world where she has very little say. It also develops into a love of hunting; something which gives her both freedom and a focus for her slightly sadistic nature.
Although she does not see eye to eye with the majority of her pack, she does feel a sense of loyalty toward them, and cannot imagine herself living life as a loner or with another pack. Liadan strives to be as independent as possible within the confines of her predetermined life, but often feels deep bitterness at the higher esteem and honour that males are held in. To her, becoming a hunter requires just as much skill as becoming a warrior does – the only difference being the gender roles involved.
As an adult, two opposing principles war within her. She refuses to accept her position as “lesser” within the pack, but she also feels strong allegiance toward them and knows she is powerless to change things. Try as she might, she cannot conciliate her conflicting beliefs, and feels this burden very deeply, resulting in her heart holding no small amount of antipathy and rebellion.
