It was bitter cold winter’s day, the sun hiding behind clouds, unable to warm the lands. It was so cold, in fact, that the normally flowing lake had been frozen into a layer of firm ice. Icicles hung off of trees, and covering each individual blade of grass was a thin layer of ice. Most would use this day to stay in their dens and be lazy, eating off of leftovers and wishing the weather would become warmer. This, however, wasn’t the case for the purple eyed maned wolf. She was excited about all the ice, though not so much the cold, and made her way over to icy lake.
Once at the lake, she stepped carefully, and slowly, onto the surface. At first, she yanked her paw away, taken back by the cold. But, after trying again, she found herself adjusting and slowly stepped completely onto the ice. Only hesitating for a minute, she started moving forward, her legs wobbly under her. Once she finally got her balance she started running forward and then stopping, letting herself slide a good way before repeating the process. She couldn’t help but laugh as it had been a long while since she had this much fun.
After a while of skating by herself, she couldn’t help but wish someone or others would come join her. Surely, she wasn’t the only one that would find fun and humor in such tactics? Maybe others hadn’t seen the lake yet or just hadn’t been creative enough to come up with the idea. With those thoughts, she found herself sliding off of the lake and onto solid ground before reaching her muzzle up to the sky, howling for her pack mates to come join her. She wasn’t sure if anyone would join or not but, she knew it was worth a try. After drawing her howl to a stop, she carefully stepped back onto the lake and went back to skating.

Although Zozyr's Glory had not made for a terrible temporary abode with its craggy overhangs and rock formations as shelter, Takoda knew that, as a now-member of Eden, he needed to explore the religious pack's territory. Already was he feeling the overwhelming peace that was said to overcome wolves in Tiayr, the tranquil calm sent by Elohim Himself. It was a difficult concept to grasp that not so long ago, every day of Takoda's life had been a struggle, the threat of physical mutilation and attack constantly looming over the male. There was a price on his head, a target seemingly forever pinned to him, seen as the failure, the bad omen. Here, he was with Elohim and Thanatos and others, all keeping him safe like a family. Eden was more of a pack or family than his Exousía or his own blood relatives had ever been.
Smiling at the wonderful predicament that the Hastiin had gotten himself into, Takoda found himself mindlessly wandering towards a place that felt cold, as if it emanated ice—more so than any other place in the pack's lands in winter. Although he lacked the ability to see, the Mackenzie Valley wolf had the rest of his senses as more acute and sharper than most wolves in their prime so he avoided the musty scent of wood and the varying aromas of different types of leaves, therefore not bumping into anything on the way. As cautious paws found their way towards this cold place, another odor, this one strongly canine, slowly grew stronger. It was somewhat familiar...
Flicking through the mental folder of scents that Takoda kept as instinct, he remembered that this she-wolf was Kiara, the puppy who had greeted him when he had first joined. Not wanting to trample the adorable little youth, the sightless wolf called out to her.
Ice skating was something the young she wolf was amazed that she had never thought of before. It was fun, cold, but still fun, and offered an easy to way to pent out energy. It was also something she knew she would only ever get to do for a short amount of time each year, only when the weather got cold enough during the winter to freeze the water into a sturdy layer of ice. So, to her, it was made even more fun as she knew she needed to cherish every moment she was able to do it for it would all too soon be a thing of the past for another year.
Since she was so lost in the fun she was having, she failed to realize another wolf had come to join her until she heard a voice she recognized from a brief moment just a few days before. Skating over to where the wolf stood, she carefully moved off of the ice and went to stand before him. “Greetings Takoda,” she greeted him with a kind smile and a polite bow of the head. “It is a pleasure to see you again,” she nodded before continuing, “How you are enjoying Eden so far? I hope everything is to your liking.” She was still unsure if the male standing in front of her would have joined had she not suggested so it so she hoped he was enjoying the pack as much as she made it seem like he would.
After they had a chance to catch up with one another, Kiara looked back over her shoulder at the glistening ice. “How would you like to go skating with me?” she asked tilting her head curiously. “It’s fun, I promise,” she nodded hoping he would believe her enough to try it out. As she waited for him to answer, she sat back on her haunches and wrapped her tail around her, allowing herself a few minutes to let her legs rest.

A small smile spread onto Takoda's maw as he heard the high voice of Kiara, the Haimovi's adopted daughter. In reply to the young wolf's question, the Hastiin answered, "Eden has been wonderful so far. It's very different from what I'm used to, but in a good way!" Sometimes the wolf thought that perhaps he had been knocked out from his mother's attacks and everything that he was experiencing could be just a dream. After all, it all seemed far too good to be true. All his life, he had been treated like dirt on one's pads, and then he had suddenly washed up on a mysterious island where complete strangers had welcomed him with warmth. It sounded like fantasy to him, but even if it was, he most certainly did not want the fantasy to end.
Then Kiara gave a strange request. Skating? Baffled for a moment, Koda did not respond until the adolescent insisted that it was fun. "Why not, Kiara? That indeed does sound fun. But I'm afraid that you might have to watch out for silly old Takoda since I can't see where I'm going, just to warn you," the friendly male replied with a smile. The concept of skidding around on ice was foreign to the Mackenzie Valley wolf but he was not against trying new things; besides, it did sound genuinely fun. Even if it had not sounded fun, he would have done it to please Kiara. She was adorable, even though she would soon be fully grown and matured. Despite her actual age, Takoda could not help but see her as a pup at heart, and a cute one at that.
Moving towards the frozen ice, Koda felt for the sudden frigid wetness that was ice, stopping where the tips of his paws hit the lake. He cautiously nudged the surface with his nose, testing how well the ice would hold. After making sure that it could probably bear his weight, the warrior placed a single paw onto the frost, slowly pressing down harder and harder until he rested a considerable amount of his weight on it. And then he tried another paw, just as carefully as the first, and it held. Soon, the male had made his way safely onto the frozen lake without intervention, despite his eyesight issues.
