Changes have become too severe in Anikira, and the wolves have been temporarily relocated to the Anikiran Southern Isles. Things have grown dire and unlivable on the mainland; it was time for outside intervention. Please be sure to review the full update on the staff board for more information!
The current season is fall in the Southern Isles. Due to their proximity to the equator, the region is still warm. There is currently no breeding and no birthing amongst the wolves
[attr="class","pltxt"] The strange gait of the dark wolf traveled slowly along the edge of the river, hidden only slightly by the mist that had begun to roll in from the lake. Black fur did not blend well with white, but the thickness of the substance worked well from a distance. Any creature who wasn't within fifteen feet of Venom would barely see him, and likely only notice the movement and not the wolf himself. That worked just fine for the loner; he was often uninterested in interacting with others, especially considering the amount of enemies he continued to rack up. It was amazing how heated others got when he attempted to (or did) kill loved ones. Frankly, it amused the older wolf to no end, and he would not stop until he was forced to.
Killing was a part of him as much as his leg wasn't. From a year of age he had been a killer, and a remorseless one at that. He and his brother Kimset had spent many bloody years together, and a part of the male hoped he would see the grizzled gray brute again someday, but he doubted it; if Kimset had not gotten himself into an inescapable situation, he was likely off on his own, avoiding others at all costs. Venom had always been the charmer, the talker, and Kimset had been the starter of violence.
Being separated from his brother did nothing to dull the joy of said violence, but it did mean that Venom spent much less time seeking out trouble. Without an accomplice, it was much harder to get away with massacres, and so the slim male was forced to pick off those who wandered in unclaimed territory and who were naive enough to trust him. The most satisfying kill were those like Jericho--a wolf who had trusted him very much during their first meeting, and went into their last without a clue.
Venom took a deep breath and paused at the edge of the massive lake, lowering his head to drink for a few moments, his emerald eyes scanning the short distance before him as his tall ears listened carefully for an approach. It would be easy to be snuck up on here, and as such the male's senses were on high alert. As a rather petite and disabled wolf, there was usually no danger from the average wolf, but any like him could cause a problem. And, considering he was technically trespassing on a land of giants, care was absolutely necessary.

Alina's wanderings had become a part of her life now, something that she did on a daily basis. She was so lost without Thor, her decision to follow him here changing her life forever. Alina had begun the search for some purpose, something outside of her mate. He had duties and responsibilities to attend to and that meant that she had to wait here for him to return to her. She had seen him briefly weeks ago, but now he was gone again. Kairos seemed to be a very busy placed that kept her male occupied much of the time. It was very different form the time that they had spent together in Airila's territory. Then it had just been the two of them together for hours, talking and playing. Now it seemed as if he had to return to his adult world, only Alina didn't know how she fit into that world. When Thor was gone she was impossibly lonely, desperate to find some kind of friend or companion. Most people came and went, no one really having the time to stick around and keep Alina company.
The river was cool and delicious as she leaned down to take a drink. There was some mist forming on the bank, making it hard for Alina to see anything. She could hear something moving behind her, but it didn't worry her overmuch. Trespassing was a serious offense, but Thor had instructed her to tell anyone from Kairos that she was his mate and then it would be alright. If it happened to not be a Kairos wolf then she supposed she wouldn't know what to do. Most of the time she just tried to be friendly and make new friends. She had never met a wolf that had tried to kill her, but she supposed that she was very fortunate or that. Most people either avoided other loners or made a quick stop to chat. It was very different than the pack life that she had left behind.
Airila had been such a good home for her, but without Thor is wasn't really her home. The noises surrounding her only seemed to be getting louder, as if someone was making their way towards her. "Hello? Who is there?" The mist was too thick making it difficult for her to smell the other person. She turned away from the water trying to see if there really was someone close to her or if her ears were really playing tricks on her.
It had been several weeks now that Avariella had been travelling with Kade... At least it seemed like several weeks to her. The days seemed to drag on and on. It was exhausting to be around him, though not because of anything that he did. Being around him and travelling with him meant constant fear for the female who had allowed fear of strangers to take over her life. She would have thought that being around him for this long would have allowed her to relax, and she supposed that she had relaxed a little, but it was still extremely exhausting to live in constant fear that the wolf you are travelling with is going to kill you. But she supposed that if it was going to happen, then it was going to happen. Ava sure as hell wasn't going to be able to stop him from killing her. But so far, he had proven to only be valuable to her. He motivated her to hunt and bring back enough food for him to have a decent meal, even if she only allowed herself to have a little. She lied to him a lot, saying that she had already eaten when she hadn't even had a nibble. She would always take his scraps if there were any left, though. She was, in fact, much thinner than he. But she was helping him. He was helping her, and she was helping him, both mentally and physically. They were both learning how to be around another again -in short, that's what was happening- and she was also providing food for him while he promised to provide protection for her.
And yet... She still found herself constantly wandering away from him. Every morning, she left him sleeping while she stepped away for some air. Even when it wasn't morning, if she just needed space, she would wander off to 'hunt.' That had been her excuse today. She was out hunting... But she had traveled quite far from Kade, having not realized how long she had been trotting along. She found herself in Acerbus again, the land of the giants where she had met the seemingly kind giant, Typhon. She guessed that he wouldn't mind seeing her in his lands again, though she knew she needed to turn back soon. She had been gone long enough, and she didn't want Kade to experience any unneeded worry... Though she wasn't sure if he worried or not when she was gone. She sighed as she stopped a looked around, though she suddenly realized that a thick mist had settled around her. She could tell she was close to some sort of water source, and so she continued forward, head low as she looked for the liquid that would quench her mild thirst. She didn't get too far, though, before she heard the voice of another, and she froze, clamping her tail down between her legs in fear. Should she reply? Or just sneak away? Then again, what if she had already been spotted? Flicking her ears back, she slowly whimpered out a reply. "I... I was j-just... Looking f-for some water..."
[attr="class","pltxt"] The land was quiet for now, a fact that Venom felt relieved of. He had done too much killing across Anikira to truly feel safe anywhere, but luckily there were only a few witnesses. His last attack had gone much more poorly than most, but he had made it out alive, and that was what mattered. Jericho had not neccessarily deserved the ending he got, but it had honestly been easier than listening to him drone on about feeling as though he didn't belong in Eden. It was a pity, how weak he was, but no matter. He wasn't alive to be pitied any longer.
While he was distacted, Venom had not caught on to the delicate footsteps and feminine scent that came to him suddenly, and while he was not terribly worried about them when he finally noticed, it irked the old wolf that he had let his senses lapse. His eyesight would not help much in the fog, but his ears and nose worked fine; had he simply ignored it because he felt himself invincible? It was fairly impressive that he had made it so far with the sins he had under his skin, but he wouldn't live forever, and slacking off on surveillance would not help.
Soft words drifted toward him, and suddenly a second scent hit him, causing the long male to turn his body away from the water, which clearly would not hold much danger. The two females were not close enough to see, but Venom had no trouble fixing that problem. As a tender and terrified voice responded to the first, he stepped forward a few awkward paces, careful to make his steps loud as first a small brown female came into view, then an even smaller one across from her. The fog was less intense the further he got from the water, but the images of each wolf would be distorted from any safe distance.
Fearing nothing from the two, Venom let out a small coughing sound to get their attention, settling himself carefully on the damp ground and glancing from one to the other, his green eyes bright and a slick, charming smile plastered to his maw. It had been weeks since he had gotten a chance to pull out that smile, and he was tickled to have an opportunity. "Hello ladies," he nearly purred, his voice smooth as melted chocolate. The sparkle in his eye that he reserved for special occasions came to light, and he wondered which of the two would take more kindly to him. "How telling, that we've three managed to arrive separately and anonymously to the same location. It must be fate."
With a gentle laugh, the male dipped his head down in a slight bow, doing so to both females in turn. "It's a pleasure to meet you both. Call me Kimset," he continued, the name slipping easily from his tongue, for he had said it a thousand times before; every time it added to his credibility, despite being the biggest lie he ever told. He and his brother had been polar opposites, with the exception that both had a penchant and a thirst for killing that was nigh unbelievable. It had made their companionship a perfect give-and-take. "What may I call you charming ladies?"

[attr="class","pltxt"]Just as Alina found the approaching female with her eyes she was greeted by her fearful reply. Her voice was broken, her speech stuttered and obviously nervous. It seemed that the female wasn't looking for a companion, but instead water to quench her thirst. Alina sat down beside the river bank allowing her crystalline blue eyes study the female. She was a great deal larger than Alina and although she could easily hurt the little red she-wolf it was doubtful. It seemed she was afraid of Alina despite the fact that she was so much bigger. "I didn't mean to frighten you. I just couldn't see who approached beyond the mist." Alina wouldn't pass up the chance to talk with a new possible friend. It had been awhile since she had met a stranger upon the road. She was a nice enough person that she surely could win over at least a hint of a smile from the female. She took one step and then another until she was further away from the bank of the water. "Please drink your fill. I won't impede you." Alina simply watched her as she cowered beside her. It seemed that is wasn't just Alina who had spooked her, her nature a more frail one.
It didn't take long before a third party joined the conversation. Alina looked over to find a male this time interjecting himself into their exchange. He seemed to be a similar size to the female obviously larger than Alina. Something about him made Alina a little more wary than she had been with Avariella. He was a little too smooth and confident for her to be outright comfortable with him. Besides she hadn't really talked with any male other than Thor since her departure from Airila territory so many months ago. A part of her was disappointed in herself for making such a rash judgement of the stranger, instead deciding that she shouldn't doubt him until he gave her a reason to. "Hello. My name is Alina." Her greeting was a warm one and she tried to keep her voice light and welcoming. Her optimism and innocence made it easy for her to place her trust in those she met around her. "It is nice to meet you as well Kimset." She had yet to exchange names with the other female so she turned and waited for the shy one to introduce herself. IF she was afraid of Alina then it could only mean that she would be terrified of Kismet AvariellaVenom

It was exhausting to always be afraid, but it was something that Avariella couldn't help. She didn't want to be afraid... She wanted to trust that not everyone that she came across would hurt her... But she just couldn't find the strength to. She knew that it was draining her of a lot of her energy, being tense anytime she got near someone and being on alert anytime she was alone... It was exhausting and frustrating for not just her. She knew that Kade had to be feeling frustrated, too, even if he wouldn't show it. It was hard to travel with someone who was afraid of you and everything else around. She knew that he was trying to help, and really they had come a long way, but they were progressing slowly. Ava would never be able to trust him overnight. She wasn't sure how anyone could throw trust into someone that fast, but she knew that it happened. Honestly, Ava had wanted to trust him right away. She wanted to finally trust someone again, but it seemed that the more she pushed to make herself trust him, the harder it became to truly trust him. So she decided to just let it naturally happen on its own. They had gotten much better, but Ava still needed some time alone to gather her thoughts and maybe try to relax a little. At least, that was what she had hoped to do on this excursion into Acerbus. It turned out, though, that that would not be the case. While she had hoped to be alone, she was greeted by another wolf. The form was obviously female and smaller than Ava build wise. And she sounded nice... But Ava had been screwed over by the females of her pack, so she found it even harder to trust them. her lips parted to give a reply, but she was unable to get the words out before she practically jumped out of her skin (visibly jumping) at the sound of loud footsteps approaching them.
Her first thought was that the giant wolves that lived in these lands had arrived to run them out... But when her eyes caught the form of the other wolf, she realized that he was no bigger than she was... At least not taller. He spoke as he approached, his voice smooth and actually quite charming, though Ava could barely focus on anything other than the fact that she was near two other wolves that could potentially turn on her at any moment. Names were exchanged between the other two wolves, and then Ava supposed that it was her turn to reply. For a moment, she debated giving a fake name, but she realized that if she died here, she needed word to reach Kade so that he would not look for her. "Avariella." She managed to eventually squeak out. She wasn't good with strangers, and having multiple strangers around was even worse. She wondered if she should slink off and try to go find Kade again or if she should stick around and wait to see what these other two wolves had to say. The male seemed quite flirtatious... Something that made Ava slightly uncomfortable, but she hoped that he would take more of a liking to the smaller female and then Ava would be able to slip away while they... Mingled.
[attr="class","pltxt"] As the two females reacted to his intrusion, Venom cocked his head to the side in a decidedly pup-like gesture, intentionally making himself seem curious and friendly. Beneath the surface, he was all calculation; the older male had already sized them up, judged their battle experience, and determined that, should he play it right, they could both be taken down without much more effort than he had used recently. The larger one would go first, meek and terrified as she was, for he would never catch her with his three legs if she managed to get far enough away. The smaller one might run as well, and swiftly, but he had a feeling that she would be so shocked by his first attack that she might be dumbstruck long enough for him to go from one throat to the other.
These thoughts all raced through his head just as the more petite female began to introduce herself--nothing in his face changed, except that his smile twitched up even more at the corners of his mouth, though that could have been explained away easily. Of course, he had no intention of attacking either female, for his stomach was full, in the first place, and in the second, they were currently trespassing on the land of giants, and Kairos would not allow him to get away with murder on their lands without sending an assassin or two after him. No, it would be unwise for the brute to kill here, and luckily it had become easy enough for him to overcome his nature.
"Pleasure to meet you, Alina," he said smoothly, setting his eyes on the creature and lowering his eyebrows in a charming manner, attempting to appeal to her. It didn't seem as though she would need much convincing to speak with him, but it never hurt to add the extra effort. Slowly, languidly he turned his neck to glance at the larger wolf, settling his back end down in the grass as he did so, though their similar heights kept his head trained where it was. "And you as well, Avariella," he added, his voice dripped with interest as he kept his attention focused on her.
The downcast eyes, coupled with her almost visible shaking, caught his curiosity more than anything. Alina had willingly greeted them both, happy and excited to be around other wolves it seemed, but Avariella... she was terrified, uncomfortable, and entirely out of her element, and that made her a challenge. Venom loved nothing more than convincing an otherwise preoccupied wolf, especially a fearful one, that he was a friend, a companion to be trusted. It was hard to do, unlike most of the situations he faced, and the dark male was constantly trying to go above and beyond his own skills.
So, though he did not forget the existence of the more gregarious female, Venom put a majority of his intentions upon the other. "Avariella, what a fitting name. Beautiful, and soft," he said quietly, wrapping his long tail very, very slowly around his stumpy flank, as though to hide the absence of his leg. "What's got you so very frightened, my dear?" he added softly, pointing his sharp ears forward and feigning a concerned, welcoming face. "I may have only just met her, but I do believe Alina here wouldn't hurt a fly. And I, as you can see--" and here, he gestured toward his missing, leg with his muzzle, which was scarred and brutal looking"--have sustained enough injuries in my day that I would never wish more upon any other. What is it about us that you feel compelled to be afraid of?" It was prying, yes, to almost an extreme, but the gentle nature of his voice concealed much of his malicious intent.

Alina watched as the fearful femme as she took in the presence of the new stranger. He was a charming brute, his words suave and silky as they floated over the femmes. With his attention squared on Avariella, Alina became quiet her blue eyes drifting to the ground. She had no reason to butt into the conversation if the male sought to speak with Avariella. She was uncomfortable as anyone could see, but she was also an adult and probably more than capable of keeping herself safe. Alina had no ability to fight, relying almost solely on Thor to keep her safe. Kimset seemed to be prodding Avariella, as if trying to get her to let her guard down. Alina thought that he was just being a gentleman, trying to make Avariella feel more comfortable amongst them. Surely the conversation would be easier if they could all just relax. Yet something in the way he spoke to the larger female made Alina's fur tingle. While she had very little knowledge of treachery in this world she did have her instinct. Accusing Kimset of being insincere would be very rude behavior and she had no idea what the males actual intentions were. More than likely she was just a little uneasy about meeting two new strangers. Since meeting Thor she had become a little more cautious about the people that she met. He had told her more than once that he wanted her to be more careful. He didn't want to lose her in this big world. "Yes Avariella I will not do anything to harm you. Rest easy that I am incapable of causing you harm." Her smile was warm and genuine trying to ease some of her discomfort. If anything could be said about Alina it was that she was too naïve of the world, too nice for her own good. She trusted to easily, whereas Avariella did not trust at all.
Terror. That was all that Avariella could feel around these strangers. She didn't know why she had ever thought that venturing so far from Kade would be a good idea. While she still couldn't place her full trust in the male, he had so far proven that he would protect her, and that was all she needed to know that she would much rather be with him than talking to these two strangers. These strangers... They seemed kind... Or rather... The female seemed kind. The male seemed too smooth... Too charming... As though he wanted something more from her. But she supposed that because of the season, she was assuming too much. Maybe he was just a charming brute. Maybe that was just his personality. It was hard to say, but she did know that she didn't and would never trust either of them, no matter how kind they might make themselves out to be. No... As soon as she got the opportunity, she would flee, vanishing back towards where she had left Kade alone, and running to his side where she would pretend like nothing had happened. She didn't like to bother him with her fears and worries, so she often kept encounters like these away from his caring mind. He seemed to want to help her, and she was grateful for that, but she just didn't trust him yet... Not when they still had so much to learn about each other.
As the brute turned his attention onto her, she tucked her tail and took a step back, clearly not even trying to hide the fact that she was afraid. Often, she was so overcome by fear that she couldn't even think about the fact that she was clearly showing her fear to the other wolves in the encounter. At least if she acted brave, she might have a chance at sending them on their way. Attackers usually wanted an easy target... Not one that would fight back. But Avariella couldn't possibly think of all of that when the fear was consuming her mind, eating it alive piece by piece until nothing but fear would be left. Indeed, she would probably die from fear one day. Ava shook her head at the brute's question, letting her eyes drift to the female, Alina, then back to the male where she noticed his missing leg. Surprisingly, that comforted her, and she suddenly thought that running away might be a possibility. “I'm afraid of everything.” She answered simply, not caring to go into details about her past with two strangers.

This untraditional coupling is one of the truly loving matches in Anikira. Although they are members of two different species, Calantha and Rikez have overcome the differences and rose above, finding love in the most pure of ways. And from this pairing, a litter born of two loving parents was conceived. These little boys and girls will have the great honor of being raised by two parents that support each other, while many of the offspring in Anikira have not had such a benefit. The pair are truly fitting of one another; both kind-hearted and generally good individuals.
