To punctuate her words she sent a rather cold glare as the ghostly alphess at her side. Alya responded with a chuckle, flashing sharp canines in a smug smirk. As the small femme began to explain her albino companion, Irirangi couldn't help but cock her head to one side. Deaf? No wonder he acted the way he did. She looked bemused as her eyes drifted towards his dining form. "How ironic. The albino hears too little while I, on the other paw, hear too much."
Neither fae, living nor dead, was smiling for long though. Iri had gone and made Kaoru cry, and this enraged the spirit. Alya tried to sooth her packmate, but her words only fell on deaf ears (both literally and figuratively). "Kaoru," she repeated over and over, failing miserably at any attempt to comfort him. He could not hear her words, could not feel her touch. Even in death seeing her family suffering caused her to suffer, and she tried to nuzzle into his neck though her actions were in vain. "Kaoru."
Alya carried on like that though much of Iri's lesson about the land. She'd always been good at keeping a level head, and right now comforting Kaoru was more important to her than giving the Maned fae a piece of her mind. At least, it was until Iri declared her annoying. Her retort to that statement was met with vehemence from the Ethiopian female, and her eyes narrowed into a burning glare.
"This Alya. I assume she can hear me, correct?"
The Iranian's fur bristled at the snarl that followed, and she returned it with a threatening growl of her own. Though only Irirangi truly watched her, she stalked towards Avani with her tail held high and anger marring her pretty face. "Of course I can hear you, foolish girl!" she spat. Her authority was being threatened, and even in death she would not stand such an insult. Dead or alive, she was alphess. Zahir was Alya's and there would be no taking it from her. So long as she walked the earth she would see the pack thrive, and she would have a say in its leadership.
"Answer to you?" she sneered with a dark laugh. "You know nothing of power, nor how to wield it." She was downright fuming, to say the least, and little Alya rarely ever let her anger take her over. In life she had been so good at staying rational, logical, in control. It seemed death had stripped her of yet another of her greatest prides. "Don't you dare walk away from me!" A harsh growl escaped her as Avani headed for the exit. Normally when in such a state her voice rose in both pitch and intensity until it held an ear-splitting quality. Instead, it was low and deadly as she followed the Ethiopian towards the fluffy male. "If you think you can run a pack without exercising any sort of control, I'd love to see you try. You think you can run the Zahir better than myself? Go one, I dare you. Show me the error in my ways."
At six years of age, Alya had been an alphess twice. First there had been her pack from the mainland. Then there'd been Zahir. Control was always how she had ruled. If she did not demand respect, she would not receive it. Only perfection was acceptable; she would not settle for being second best. Mistakes were punnished. It was her way or the highway. For five years she had lived her life in such a manner. The Diam had been taken from her by humans and their gones. She's lost the Zahir to a chemically altered rogue. The one thing Alya knew how to do was control others, and she'd lost her dreams to events uncontrollable. Her sixth birthday had come and gone days ago, and if Avani so strongly destested her authority so be it. Maybe control wasn't the way to wield power. But... The former alphess would not believe it until she saw it.
Irirangi had been only half paying attention to the conversation between the Iranian and Ethiopian. She did that a lot, splitting her focus between various things. In truth, she was a bit worried about the mental state of Kaoru. Thus, while the femme argued with a ghost she had let her vision drift towards his sniveling form. What would it take to make him see just how much his life truly meant to the remaining Zahir?
Before she could mull the thought over silver optics instantly locked on the bristling Iranian leaving the den site. Whatever Avani said had really set the ex-alphess off, and in truth all the yammering was beginning to give Iri quite a headache. But the words falling from Alya's mouth had caught her completely off guard, and for a moment she sat there dumbfounded as the spirit stared down the female more concerned with the red-eyed brute. Had she really just heard correctly?
"I will trust you for now… If it will help rebuild Zahir then I will cooperate with you… and Alya."
Quickly she glanced down at Karou as his voice cut through the now nearly empty cave. Maybe she wouldn't have to mull over her earlier question at all. A genuine smile, as opposed to the bitter smirk she usually wore, actually decorated her maw as she jerked her head in the direction of the cave's entrance. It was a silent request for him to follow her towards where the others had gathered. If Karou wanted to help rebuild Zahir, then he would definately need to be present for what she was about to tell Avani.
Lithe steps carried her into the dusky light, that truly happy smile still on her lips. Her eyes twinkled with the delight in the knowledge currently only she held, excited to unveil it to the unlikely gathering of wolves before her. If she had heard Alya correctly, she was completely off the hook.
"Avani," she drawled as she approached the smaller femme, not caring that she was disturbing a meal. One quick glance at the spirit told her she was right in what she was about to say. Before she continued, however, she waited until she was sure all eyes were focused on her. They all needed to pay close attention to what she was about to say. "If I am not mistaken, I belive Miss Alya just offered you the position of Alphess of Zahir."[/blockquote]
