The wolf walked slowly, though with a steady pace. Her belly was swollen, marking the fourth time she would give birth. She was six, well past her prime, and had already given birth to a total thirteen puppies. She had also adopted three pups shortly after giving birth to her second litter, giving her a whopping sixteen children to care for, teach, and look after. However, not once did she mind doing so. There was absolutely nothing in the entire world that the silver wolf loved more than being a mother. She had always been very motherly and protective in nature and raising pups simply felt right to her. It was something she hoped she could continue doing for as long as she should live but she knew that with each year she grew older, her chances of having a successful liter fell a little more.
As she made her way farther inland, she couldn’t help but think that this litter was completely different from all the others she had been blessed with. It was the first litter she would have since the fire and starting a brand new life and that only meant she would have to accept the fact that things would truly never again be the same. With all three of her past litters, she had been beyond excited, elated really. But with this one, her emotions were a whirlwind of ups and downs. Yes, she was excited, but at the time, she wished she wasn’t having pups, at least not in a new pack with a new male without any of her family being there. The pups would forever be reminders of things that happened and if the rules of her bloodline held true, at least one of these pups would be born with a crescent and the idea of one of them being born with her brother’s mark was more than she could take and a stabbing pain filled her heart, causing her to whimper aloud.
Off in the distance, she could see her destination. It was an old worn down boat, similar to the ones she had seen before when two legged creatures drove her pack away from their territory. It was sure to offer ample hiding spots and that was what she was looking for. She had always gone off away from everyone when she had her pups and this time would be no different. In fact, this time, more than all the others, she definitely didn’t want anyone finding her. She knew she would be emotional and the last thing she wanted was to have to deal with another wolf.
