Something More [Goliath/Kairos Conquest]

The Kairos conquest was moving on fairly nicely so far, though to ensure that their attempts were successful, there was one more place she had to go. She knew the plan set out ahead of time was that she would meet Goliath here for the final step of their conquest. For now she stood patiently on the edge of the Acerbus, already fairly familiar with the place from the explorations of herself and Thor along the nearby ridge. But today her target was the mines, a place that mildly interested her, though at the same time made her pity those that created it. Their attempts to find something worthy of killing one another over in the ground was quite ridiculous. She had never found a single rock worth killing another over simply to say that she had.

Territory, however, was a different thing altogether. She knew that Goliath had wanted the Acerbus conquest to be a smooth and non-violent one, but she was unsure of whether or not that had actually happened. She knew that she had Thor had not exactly run into any problems, but she had not heard from her alpha since the conquest had started. The area around her was rocky, and though she carefully placed a tentative paw within the Acerbus territory, she took her time in actually making her way into Descai lands. Eventually, however, she was standing fully within the conquest area and walking her way gradually towards the entrance of the mine. She doubted that any Descai wolves were in the area, for there were only stale scents of their trails through here, but one could never be too cautious. She was unsure of whether or not she would run into issues, but she also knew that Goliath would be along eventually.

She was a force to be reckoned with herself, but she knew if an issue were to arise, her alpha would surely bring an end to it if she could not do so herself. She walked with confidence, but there was also a cautious alertness to her movements. She would not be taken by surprise, especially on this uneven, rocky terrain. It would take a creature smaller than a mouse to creep up on her without expert skill, and because of her vantage point on the ridge above the entrance of the mines, she would be the first to see another's approach. She lowered her head, sniffing absently at the rocks at her feet as she stood there, yellow eyes scanning the area slowly before returning to the shadowed entrance of the mine as she did her duty and waited for the conquest to finally come to a successful end.

Acerbus was theirs – for the remainder of the day, glory was the only thing they’d need to fear. The sense of victory was one that could ruin them, if the aftertaste of it was craved, rather than savoured. For now, Descai could do nothing but recede back to Kamari in surrender to Kairos’ conquest… but that would not always be the case.

After sharing a discreet moment of victory with Datura, Goliath sent the matriarch back to the island to return to their children, and the countless others that had been born on the shielded shores of Ina’mos. Her departure had been bittersweet, but there was yet plenty of inspection to be done before Acerbus could be considered eradicated of Descai. For all he knew, this land’s many cracks and dark crevices could have harboured any number of craven wolves who had hidden during the raid – if that were the case, they would be flushed out by force.

Finding the strange-looking cave that he had passed on his way to the heart of Acerbus, Goliath approached the man-made cavern with an appeased countenance, spying the brawny form of a woman that could have only been Xena, waiting patiently at the entrance. With only a nod, he passed her briskly and entered into the darkness of the cave. Though it wasn’t obvious on the surface, Goliath was inherently unsure about how to behave with Xena; the monolithic alpha was accustomed to viewing females as vessels of life, and instruments of pleasure. There were things that women simply could not do, and things that men simply could not do, and rarely did those distinctions overlap – and yet Xena held herself as a warrior, demanding the same respect that a man of her rank would demand. She guarded Datura with her life, and for that, Goliath’s gratitude permitted a rank that would have otherwise been preposterous for a female – a quality that, in fact, lent her more trust to take care of his mate and children over any other man. The only way that Goliath could maintain his respect for her, if she would never be one to bear his children, would be to treat her how she wanted to be treated – like a male, and a strong one at that.

As he passed her, there were no charming pretenses or suave greetings, or low utterances that may have hinted at a hidden agenda. He greeted her as he would any other soldier – with solemnity, and quiet esteem.

“Our conquest over Acerbus was successful,” he begun equably, expecting Xena to be at his side following him. He doubted this news would surprise her. “Descai’s new alpha, Vorilye, retreated – I believe I made quite the impression on him,” Goliath uttered with a veiled smile, still tasting the elder brute’s blood on his tongue.

“As soon as I can be sure this land is entirely vacated, I will return to Ina’mos to be with my family. But you… You will not be accompanying me,” he explained coolly, barely pausing more than a moment to explain his command.

“If Kairos’ name is to be synonymous with our conquest, we will make many enemies – and for that reason, we should limit the amount that Vorilye may enlist in order to regain his home, if the old alpha holds true on his word,” he explained, knowing very well that what Vorilye had said was genuine. One day he would return with the hope of taking back Acerbus, and with age drastically not on his side, the only way to do that would be to find strength elsewhere. Any who dared to challenge Kairos were ill-fated, even with the gods on their side, and the Goliath cared litter for what names and banners others fought under – if a pack sided with Descai to take land away from him, there was no respite from the disaster he would crash upon them. The black and gold alpha was resolute, and he would undoubtedly put as many wolves at risk to regain his home, even it that meant pitting innocents against Kairos with all but a slim chance of success. Goliath would always be holding the high ground in numbers, but he would never willingly bet against his own kin and sacrifice those numbers in order to keep land that he had rightfully won. They needed an alliance.

“Go far. Find a pack impartial to our conquest here, and invite them into an alliance. Blood was shed today, and an enemy to Kairos was born – to balance this, you must tie your blood with another pack, and birth an alliance from the union.” He paused to regard Xena with a serious look. Would the femme be disgraced, outraged? Surely she knew that her role as a warrior would never come before her role as a woman, and her ultimate duty that nature had given her. Secretly, Goliath had placed much faith in her loyalty to Kairos, and knew that she would not deny an order of such importance. After all, he was not asking her to bare her body in shame, but to use it to bring strength and unity to their pack.

A scent, a powerful one, wafted into her nose on the light breeze as she stood patiently and waited for the alpha to meet here there. She knew that he had been further within the Acerbus with Datura solidifying the conquest, but she also knew that he would not leave these new lands until he was sure that every single corner had been eradicated of foreign wolves. Wolves outside of Kairos, that is. Her head lifted, nose taking in his scent and eyes soon spotting his larger form. Her size compared to him was only slightly smaller, nothing compared to the size differences that he shared with the other females of the pack. But she was not like them, she was stronger and she had more purpose. At least she liked to think so. Perhaps Goliath believed such a thing as well, for when he approached, he passed her with a simple nod, a greeting that he would afford to any male warrior within his ranks.

She turned quickly to follow him, her long legs helping her to easily keep up with him until his words finally echoed around them in the dim lighting. “Our conquest over Acerbus was successful,” She nodded lightly, though this came as no surprise to her. They were a powerful pack, there were few on this island with the strength to stop them. Descai had not been one of those few. “Descai’s new alpha, Vorilye, retreated – I believe I made quite the impression on him,” The alpha's words continued, mildly amusing the female, but only enough to earn the smallest of smirks from her face before it returned to the typical alert and solitary personality that she always carried. She had no doubt that Vorilye would think twice before confronting Goliath again, but she knew that the alpha of Descai - and the pack as a whole - was not the only wolf on the island. There were other packs, other wolves, and she could not guarantee that they would not turn against them as well.

She listened to his words once more, not interested in offering her own, just as she assumed the alpha male was not interested in hearing them. They were not necessary, and as he continued to speak, what he said came yet again as no surprise. "But you… You will not be accompanying me,” That much she had assumed. Their task, although mostly successful in claiming the Acerbus, could not possibly be complete just yet. “Go far. Find a pack impartial to our conquest here, and invite them into an alliance. Blood was shed today, and an enemy to Kairos was born – to balance this, you must tie your blood with another pack, and birth an alliance from the union.” The words achieved something that did not happen often for the female, an automatic reaction. Her ears flicked backwards in obvious displeasure at the idea, her eyes actually moving to the male's face in open disgust and insult for the briefest of moments. But as he looked at her, she wiped the expression away as quickly as possible. She remained silent for a few moments, ears still pinned backwards as she let the task sink in.

She knew that it was for the good of Kairos, for the strength of their future, and she could not deny that any pups that she would give birth to would provide a strong and powerful future for them alongside those of Titan and Goliath. Finally, after she resumed her movement and found herself beside him once more, she exhaled slowly in a soft sigh. "For the good of Kairos." She said, sticking to her typical lack of socialization and way of speaking. She hardly ever had a lot to say, and what words she did say were usually just enough to get her point across and nothing more. But, she had a question, to properly understand his true purpose as well as how things were to fully play out. "What of the offspring, then? Surely no leader is going to just offer up their sperm to a stranger from another pack without anything but the promise of an alliance in return." She said, tilting her head slightly and finally pulling her ears back up to a normal erect, yet still respectful position.
