As he expected, Sabaoth shot him a menacing glare as he prodded yet again, but his response was back to his cool, stiff self. “No surprise there. I don’t see how anyone stands you.” Isaiah chuckled, partly because of his grumpy tone, but also enjoying the insulting banter that only siblings could ever manage. If anyone else had spoken to him in such a way, he would have walked away long before. The kind of relationship the two held was unique, but Isaiah relished in it. His brother was intelligent, despite his brutish ways and raging vengeance. And from a character who looked as if he might never utter a quick-witted word in his life, it was a blessing that Sabaoth had inherited the same sharp tongue that both he and Goliath held as their own qualities.
The caramel brute blinked shook his head when Sabaoth mentioned Kairos. “How am I to know?” he said, the question with a noted tone of admiration. Though he knew his brothers could be controlling and possessive, they were two qualities that Isaiah was happy to lack. In part, he wondered if Zuri was responsible for his gentler, free nature. He only deduced that she was only partially responsible. From the time they were born, Isaiah had been different from his brothers. Calmer. More compassionate and emotionally even. “I only told her where Ina’mos was, no more,” he said honestly, smiling toothily at his brother. “I suppose if she makes it to the island, I haven’t completely disgusted her.”
He watched his path as he picked his way through the dunes, passing trees with giant nests as eagles circled overhead. The birds were large enough to hunt larger game, but they were not so bold as to overtly attack two giants. He did wish Neviah was here. Tas’alea was her home, and she would have known all of the secrets of this land. For all he knew, she had a pack on the island-turned-peninsula. Suddenly curious, he turned to Sabaoth. “Where is your femme from, do you know? Is she a mainlander?”
