History: Jericho was born into a pack on the mainland near Anikira. His father was a respected member of the pack, not that that meant much since the only rule in this pack was "everyone for himself." They lived together merely for convenience of location and hunting and the mutual benefit of security from other predators, but that was the extent of their relationship. Even parents were not much different towards their pups. Jericho's mother was more affectionate than anyone else in the pack, as long as she was sure no one was paying attention. These displays of affection hardly included more than saving them scraps from kills or occasionally giving them a quick lick across the cheek. Pups had to learn to grow up quickly, not only to find their own food, but to be able to defend it and themselves from the other wolves. Mothers coddling them was not only frowned upon, but ended up being harmful for the pups.
Working together with other wolves to bring down larger prey was a risky endeavor, and the wolves had to be prepared to fight for their claim of the meat. Fights broke out regularly over food, water, a place to sleep.. It was tiresome and pointless to Jericho, who thought that if they could learn not only to work together, but also care for each other, many of their problems would be solved. Because of this, he quickly learned how to do his hunting for himself, even larger prey. He became incredibly aware of his surroundings and what to look for when tracking. He used his size and build to his advantage, but also took his time stalking his prey and sizing it up, crafting a strategy for how to best bring it down. Hunting was the one part of this life that he actually liked.
Jericho wanted nothing more than to truly connect with the others and form a friendship with them. He wanted to opportunity to care for someone other than himself. And it confused him that the other wolves did not seem to view each other this way. They were content with their lifestyle. This opinion was not very popular among the other wolves and quickly served to alienate him from them even more. They saw him as a nuisance who couldn't learn to mind his own business and take care of himself.
His two brothers were the closest thing he had to friends, and even they weren't particularly friendly, but he knew he didn't have to worry about them turning on him. He liked to believe that somewhere, deep down, they shared a connection and actually felt something for each other. To this day he is unsure if that was just his imagination, or if they actually do care for him.
One day, he acted on what he believed to be right. He tried to stop a fight from breaking out among two wolves over a rabbit. It was so small and insignificant to Jericho that he could not understand how the others did not see how pointless this was. Unfortunately, his efforts did nothing to persuade the others. In fact, it caused a riot in the pack. He upset the balance of how things worked, and was banned for getting involved in affairs that were none of his concern and interfering with their way of life.
For over a year he has wandered around aimlessly, trying to fend for himself. His wanderings have brought him to the island of Anikira looking for a purpose and a new life.
Despite his hunting abilities, after being on his own for so long, he is thin, his fur has lost its healthy glow, and his eyes are dull. He is careful not to run into other wolves, afraid of a repeat of his past experiences. But, he can't shake the idea that it does not have to be that way, that he could someday find a family.
It is this struggle between his fear and his hope that keeps him going. He doesn't know what exactly he is waiting for, but he knows it has to be better than this. He continues to improve his skills, in case he ever is able to find a pack he could call home. He would want to be able to offer them something.
Personality: Jericho's personality has three main facets, which are ordered by what he values most.
Above all else, Jericho cares about loyalty and duty. When the day comes to join a pack, this decision will be made by a commitment not only to the members of the pack and their way of life, but also a commitment to put those things above his own needs, desires, and, if necessary, life.
He is more confident in who he is with beliefs to cling to and others around him who affirm his values in their way of life. He desires to join a pack, at least one with his ideals, though he has almost given up on finding one, and when the moment comes to join one, he will feel like he has finally found his purpose in the pack, and will do anything in his power to protect and provide for it.
That leads to his second core value, which is care and compassion. He goes out of his way to personally know all of the packs members, taking a genuine interest in getting to know them individually and keep up with them. Especially the females, which reveals the third aspect of his personality.
Jericho is playful, flirtatious, and enjoys a good laugh. He likes stepping outside of others' expectations of him being the serious one all the time. While he does take his duties and his role seriously, he likes to have fun, and he gravitates towards like-natured types--others who know how to have fun (within the rules, of course).
