Life was so strange.
The earth, the grass, the wind, ... everything felt weird against her pelt. Ayame was walking alongside her brother, but she remained quiet for the entirety of the voyage to unknown lands. She heard her brother talk to her about some distant howls he heard, and that maybe a pack was nearby. She only faintly nodded, looking at him with mismatched eyes that her mother used to love. Her heart still ached for her, and even for the father that she never got to know. She still thought that her mother was alive and that everything else around her was a dream.
Ayame was almost always dreaming. Everything around her made her feel numb, and it was terrifying. Her legs and paws felt numb--she looked a them... they seemed so strange. It was as if she was only a thing inside of her head--like a strange being or something, but... her body was so alien, so weird. But, sometimes, she felt comforted in the realm of her mind. She felt safe, away from the disgusting reality of life. Away from the notion of time who had always been her worst enemy. Time was terrifying for her.
Everything in this world had a limit caused by time. It was sad how parents saw pups grow up, but pups saw their parents grow old and die. It was sad how little time everyone has in this earth, and it was unfair. Was time going to rip away the only thing that kept her alive all this time? Was time also going to mock her in the face and make Caleb old and die in a matter of years? The days went by quickly, and each passing moment made Ayame angrier against time. Everything was an illusion.
It was sad, in her eyes, that pups are desperate to grow up, but adults are desperate to be pups again. It was a cycle that no one could stop. Not her, not Caleb, no one. They were all vulnerable, trapped in the strings of time, waiting for their demise. Her mother wanted what was best for her children, but in the end, she grew crazy too. Caleb was the only thing that held her anchored to the ground even if her head was lost in the clouds, and she feared the day she found him old and withered, lost to the unknown that comes after death.
Ayame and Caleb had arrived to some packlands, but Ayame was numb. She smiled softly to her brother, and sighed. Beautiful hills spread across the horizon, the grass moving and dancing with the wind. The day was bright and colorful, and the birds flew right above them. Ayame began to look around, trying to snap back into reality. She looked at her brother, and then decided to speak--an event that was becoming rare for her, but she was just wondering about their whereabouts. "Where are we, Cal?" She spoke softly, in almost a whisper, and proceeded to sit down.
She could smell various scents, so she understood that this was a pack with a good number of members. She had no idea what they had run into, but she didn't care. She knew that with her brother, she would be safe from harm--he had the scars to prove it. Sitting down, she then stared blankly at the moving grass, slowly falling into her thoughts once again.
