Finally. At last she had relief, for the first time in a long time she had managed to escape her offspring. As torturous as submitting herself to a male for breeding under the orders of her alpha had been, raising the offspring that resulted from the encounter was more-so. Her ears pinned backwards as she mentally relived the ordeal, and though she had managed to get away for a short time to hunt, she knew she would be forced to endure them for as long as they remained a part of Kairos. However, at the very basic level of her being, Xena was loyal to Kairos. She would serve Goliath and his pack until the end of her life, even if that meant giving birth to the pups she now had to care for. It meant the strength of an alliance with Ultoris, and it meant that Kairos would grow that much more.
But the time alone was something she cherished. Being a rather antisocial female to begin with, the large wolf made her way slowly towards the swamp, with every intention on catching herself at least some small excuse for a meal if it took her all day. Perhaps she would bring something back for her growing daughters, but she had no desire to provide a cushy and comfortable life for them. They would grow, but they would do so without a mother. She would keep them alive, she would give Wraith away, but she would not be a comforting or pampering mother to Banshee. No, her largest daughter would discover the harsh world that they lived in head on, and Xena would not be there to help her. She would be strong and confident like her mother, yes, but she would not be loved by her.
Whether the Praetorian was capable of love or not was uncertain, but it was not something that she bothered herself with. She could survive and serve Kairos without love, therefore it had no place in her life. With a heavy sigh, she pushed into the darkness of the swamp, with her head low and her tail hanging limp behind her in her pursuit of lunch. It was only mid-day, but perhaps there would be some sort of prey out and about for her to snatch up. It was often hard for her to catch her own meals, for she was larger than most females and often let the smaller hunters bring meals back for her. Today, however, catching her own food was also an excuse to get away from the young pups that still needed her to survive for some reason. Soon enough they would be grown, and she could hardly wait for the day that she would at least see Wraith off to Ultoris and rid herself of at least one nuisance.
