A chilling breeze blew in from the north causing the flat expanse of water to become disrupted. On the edge of the lake a lone figure stood facing the gale. His eyes were narrowed against the stinging wind. After having caught prey and resting along the Aughgar river, having traveled from the Occasus, he was looking much better. His pelt was groomed and he had washed the sand from his pelt in the chilled liquid.
His limbs were tensed and his eyes kept scanning the area, looking for danger. He knew he had crossed scent markers but he had not bothered to stop. He could hold his own in a skirmish and he did not want to turn back after having left the endless featureless sands in the Occasus. He liked the warmer temperatures and did not mind walking on sand but he liked a featured landscape.
Huffing a soft sigh he let himself relax once he confirmed he was alone. Lowering himself to his haunches he closed his eyes slowly, letting his breathing slow. A yawn escaped his jaws and he felt sleep dragging at his limbs. He would not give in, not yet, it was not safe to sleep out in the open. All of a sudden the wind seemed to shift, buffeting him from a different direction bringing new scents. The most potent one, and the one that stood out to him, causing his hackles to raise. It was the scent of a wolf, a male, and this wolf was close by. His eyes snapped open and he unfolded his limbs from under him. He stood facing the wind ready to defend himself if needed.
As he stood he made sure to pay attention to every detail, his eyes sweeping over the landscape before him. The trees and shrubs blocked the other figure from view and he felt fear pricking at his pelt. He pushed it away and growled low in his throat as a large, surprisingly large, male wolf came into view.
[attr="class","pltxt"]The tiny little thing in Igneir was not in Xolotl's presence but that would be okay for now. Perhaps the enormous brute could discover what happened to little midgets when they were left all alone to wander. Hopefully they did not die because, from what the male had heard, there was only one death to die. What a waste of death if she died and the hulking behemoth was not there to watch. That would not do.
As gargantuan paws thudded against the lake's edge, toxic yellow eyes scanning the eerie mist, Xolotl spotted a tiny form off into the distance. It looked about the same size as his miniscule mother, perhaps less stocky in figure. The silhouette seemed wolven in shape and the scent that drifted across to the Kairos giant suggested as such too. However, the scent also suggested something else—that this was a loner.
Duty to the high and mighty Kairos seized the dark-furred male as he strode forwards, drawing himself to his full height. He already towered over this little runt so it barely made a difference but it gave the titanic wolf confidence and a feeling of power that he had not had prior to joining Kairos. Before, he was alone, but now... There were so many to hold himself superior to and here, he was not a freak for his size, he discovered. Here, he was revered, a god, for his immense size. Pride swelled within the mixed breed as he increased his speed, closing the distance between him and the despicable intruder.
"What," he drawled, cold and emotionless in tone, "Do you, pathetic little thing, think that you're doing trespassing on the lands of the high and mighty Kairos? Do you come from Anikira? Only the newest of newcomers could not know of Kairos' greatness and exactly what lands it owns—it dominantes. A weak little runt like you would have to be the most insane wolf upon the continent to intrude upon our well-protected land."
Had the loner gone mad? Perhaps he had. If so, he'd get killed soon enough, but that did not mean that it would not hurt to lessen the waiting time, so to speak.

Kenai Peninsula x Arctic ♔ One Year ♔ Male ♔ Kairos
Stag felt the fur along his back rise and he stared back evenly. He could feel his legs quiver and he forced himself to stand still. This wolf was huge! He stood at least twice as tall as Stag, well maybe not that much but he was huge. Panic began to flutter in his chest at the thought of this stranger attacking him. He ignored it to the best of his abilities and focused on the scene before him.
"What," The male drawled, his tone surprisingly cold and emotionless, "Do you, pathetic little thing, think that you're doing trespassing on the lands of the high and mighty Kairos? Do you come from Anikira? Only the newest of newcomers could not know of Kairos' greatness and exactly what lands it owns—it dominantes. A weak little runt like you would have to be the most insane wolf upon the continent to intrude upon our well-protected land."
This male obviously thought highly of himself, as well as his pack. This made the situation all the more tricky and difficult to get out of. He pushed away a new wave of emotions and stared evenly back his features unreadable. Being new to Anikira he had never heard of Kairos, which was now obviously a pack. "I can not counter whether my sanity is still true." He started wanting to point out that part, for some reason. "And I had no idea such a..... High and mighty pack inhabited these lands." He tried to sound bored however he may have sounded sarcastic at the end. His words were chosen with care, as one wrong move could cost him his life. Though he could not decide if that was a bad thing or not.
"I just arrived to Anikira shortly before traveling here. I come from somewhere far off, well I assume far off." He said slowly. His fur was still spiked and adrenaline was coursing through his body. Stag shifted his stance hoping to relieve some of the stiffness in his joints. He kept getting distracted by the gleam of the water, and his eyes would flick back and forth between the lake and the wolf. "I would gladly leave this territory." He said meaning it as an insult.
[attr="class","pltxt"]The monotone necromaniac watched, stoically and silently, as the other wolf rattled on about their questionable sanity and how they were so stupid and out of the loop that they did not know of Kairos. Did Xolotl ask about their sanity? Because he was rather sure that he did not ask about the midget's obviously nonexistent sanity. What made the abnormally gigantic mixed breed curious was that the male was that this intruder had not been a resident of Anikira until rather recently. The morbidly curious gears in the behemoth's head started to whirr, a flood of questions bursting into his mind as if he was an annoyingly curious pup.
Wolves that did not come from the continent of Anikira—did they have the same anatomy as those who did? Perhaps they were all miniscule midgets much like the stranger standing before Xolotl. Maybe they were all rather stunted in the head with a thick skull like this blue-eyed inconnu. Or, perhaps, this wolf was an abnormality, much like Xolotl himself was, and Anikira was full of inferior wolves, all others generally large and stocky, strong, quick-witted, and intelligent, much unlike what the trespasser here came across as.
Addressing the unknown male's intent to leave, the yellow-orbed behemoth replied, "Oh, little one, you're not going anywhere. Not without at least telling me your name and reason for being here. I am Xolotl, your resident Kairos member." Then the larger wolf smiled a sickly sweet smile, intended to come across as creepy and unnatural rather than friendly. Perhaps, if the tiny thing was to learn a lesson, he could escape in one piece and never return or he would be in quite a few more than one pieces.

Kenai Peninsula x Arctic ♔ One Year ♔ Male ♔ Kairos
Stag noticed how the male seemed to stare at him as rather insignificant. He knew he probably appeared dwarfed to the large male but it still bothered him. Holding his head high he waited for the other male to say something. All the while he shifted his gaze around at the landscape behind the male. He noted the different possible, well possibly possible, escape routes. His ears were raised and alert listening for the sound of other approaching wolves. He made sure to study the males movements as well, trying to figure out his best plan in means of getting out in one piece.
"Oh, little one, you're not going anywhere. Not without at least telling me your name and reason for being here. I am Xolotl, your resident Kairos member." The larger male spoke and then Stag watched as a sickly smile spread on his face. Still standing the red wolf stared at him for a few seconds processing his words.
"Little." He repeated and then stared at Xolotl a bit longer. "Well you are just unusually big." He muttered. "My name is Stag. I come from somewhere else. I've been traveling my whole life since I was young, I just happened to stumble across this lake in my journey." He said in a monotone voice as if he was bored.
He shifted his position uncomfortably his gaze sliding around from the wolf before him to the landscape behind. He sighed almost tiredly and then looked up at Xolotl. "So tell me Xolotl what do you want with me? Since I am obviously new here why do you not just let me go?" He asked. "If I am so puny and insignificant could you not just pick me off. I am fairly certain you are the largest wolf I have ever seen therefore could easily win any fight. Then again maybe your combat skills are weak, it is not always about size." He mused almost try to insult the large wolf.
[attr="class","pltxt"]Obviously afraid of Xolotl, the intruder seemed to look for an escape route. Was he stupid? Mentally ill, perhaps? Did the puny little thing really think that he could escape the mighty Xolotl? Struggling not to chuckle at the flighty wolf's attempt to seek a blemish in the territory, the Kairos defender stepped closer to his inferior counterpart, hoping to make the other wolf feel surrounded.
A name. Stag. What kind of name was that? This was a wolf, not a stag! That was worse than Xolotl's old name, Jasper! It reminded the behemoth of the ridiculous name of Mint given to his little sister and he wondered if she had changed her name as well. Silver would not have been fond of how obvious her name was as well—perhaps she had changed her name. But no, he could not think of them. They were of the past. He would forget them. He was alone in life and he had always been. Even in Kairos, he was alone, not dependant on anyone or part of anyone's life. Dependence was weakness.
"First of all, Stag? What kind of batshit name is that? Who even named you? You can change your name, you know. I did. I would if I were you. Stag makes you seem more ridiculous than you look. And how did you just 'stumble into' the territory? Have you lost your sense of smell as well as your mind? The markers are very much clear, mister, and anyone who has the sense of taste, smell, or sight ought to know that this is Kairos territory. I do not pity you. It's your own damn fault if you're so oblivious to things."
It was rather astonishing that Stag did not know of Kairos. It should have been the first thing that the male knew of when he arrived! Even newcomers knew about Kairos' power.
Xolotl held back a laugh at Stag's attempts to intimidate. Really? The Xolotl, not good in a fight?
"Perhaps I would not fare well in a fight. Want to find out?" Xolotl would make Stag leave of his own accord, he would make sure. After all, there was far more satisfaction in intimidation than resorting to brute force, although he could do that as a last resort, indeed.

Stag eventually came to realize that there was no escape. The larger brute would obviously overtake him and then a fight would not be avoidable. He let out a breezy huff and then turned his full attention to the other predator. As he began to criticize his name, Stag thought of his mother and then siblings. Xolotl was right, Stag was a stupid name and he should have changed it the moment he set foot on Anikira.
Stag had detected the scent marks but being as exhausted as he was he had not bothered to acknowledge them, he also questioned whether he was exiting or entering a territory. When Xolotl finally finished speaking Stag stared at him for a bit considering his response.
"I am willing to change my name. I have always found the name Stag rather bland and.... weak." He said slowly. Then he thought, searching for the right name, one that was unique and would not portray him as weak. "Titus." He said finally. "As for the fight, I was wrong to call you of all wolves weak and I am not looking for trouble." He said hoping the larger wolf would not attack him.
As he stood before the other wolf he tried to appear calm and collected. He could feel his limbs quivering from what was most likely fatigue and hunger, his stomach rumbled in agreement. "Tell me Xolotl why is Kairos so powerful? What sets them apart from the other packs of Anikira beside some.... gifted wolves." He said meaning Xolotl in specific, he did not know if there were more wolves like him.
He had seemingly relaxed his stance in the middle of speaking and now stood rather unguarded. However his gaze tracked Xolotl with every move and he was ready to defend himself if needed. The gentle lapping of the waves against the shore was lulling him into a probably false sense of security and he struggled to keep his mind on the possible fight.
{That's quite alright! Sorry it took so long to reply and if my post is crappy. I typed half of it up this morning.}
[attr="class","pltxt"]Titus. It seemed that the minute wolf was changing his name right as he stood. Was Stag—no, Titus—really that impulsive? At one mere comment to his name nonetheless! Of course, it was none of Xolotl's business—he did not know the full story and there were endless justifiable possibilities. And it was not as if he really cared about the other's name; his name would be just a name, nothing more than an embarrassment at worst and a complementing feature at best. Besides, Xolotl did agree that Titus was a much better name than Stag.
Satisfaction pulled the monochrome behemoth out of his musings as Titus revealed that he was afraid of Xolotl—indirectly, but still, why apologise for implying that someone was weak unless if one feared the other's wrath? "Titus, I have no intentions of harming you. Not yet. You have not proven yourself a threat and you are not quite interesting enough to be selected as a test subject for my... Experiments."
When Xolotl tested things on either the dead or the living, though usually the dead as they were easier to manipulate, he never harmed them on purpose. Why, he was simply seeing if they would get hurt! How was he to know that foxes bled like wolves or that females were usually more delicate than their male counterparts? Nobody had ever taught him that. So how else was he to learn but to test things? It was the subject's own fault if they got hurt—they could have prevented it, after all.
Bringing his mind back to the present, Xolotl listened to the question that Titus had to ask. "Kairos is powerful in many, many ways, little one. We have the largest and bulkiest warriors upon Anikira, most around my size, but we are not all bulky titans. We also have the swiftest, most lithe, fertile females on the continent. I have heard that the high-ranking males have access to all of the females to produce the strongest offspring although that may have changed since our current Emperor is... Young, yes, young. The rest does not concern you."
Titus was still, it seemed, intruding. "Now get out of our territory unless if you want our extensive army to exterminate you. I shall escort you."

Kenai Peninsula x Arctic ♔ One Year ♔ Male ♔ Kairos
Until Titus had run into Xolotl he had not thought about his name. Honestly he had not needed to, no one was around to use it. But the moment it was brought up he could feel his past burning at the back of his mind screaming to be thought about. He was not ready to confront what memories were there and probably never would be, he did not want to nor did he need to. So once Xolotl had explained he could change it he had jumped at the suggestion. And why not? If he was truly trying to forget his past and start fresh why not strip himself of everything that linked him to that time that he could. It was a decision that he would always feel he did right by, and would not regret it.
Now as Titus stood listening to Xolotl speak his mind did not once wander and he was far more focused. It was as if all that had plagued him had simply vanished, buried in the deep recesses of his mind. He could not help but feel unfairly judged at being called uninteresting, but stayed silent. He did not want to cause anymore trouble.
He listened with interest as Xolotl explained Kairos. He felt disappointed that he could not learn more. He let out a deep breath which turned into a sigh. "Alright I'm leaving." He muttered and then backed away not wanting to head towards the larger wolf or turn his back. Once he was a safe, well safe in his view, distance from the other wolf he turned and began to pad towards the border. He knew the other wolf was following but did not care. As he made his way around the lake he cast glances behind him towards the other wolf.
