History:
From birth, Ingrid was destined to be a cold-blooded war hawk. Her mother was Valdis, the unforgiving leader of a massive viking-style pack located in Africa called Aesir. Valdis was originally native to Anikira but fled to Africa after killing her own father. Ingird's father, a strong male pack member whom her mother took as a mate, was known as Torvar. The pair produced two promising offspring: Ingrid and her brother, Arvid. Growing up in Aesir was not the typical childhood you would expect, but the pair of siblings had a congenital bond stronger than any force of nature, and they experienced life together as a joined force.
As a descendant of the Hilmir, Ingrid should have been expected to live a privileged life. However, this was not entirely true. Although she may have received respect from other pack members that she might not have if she was unrelated, her parents stood firm by not giving their children any special treatment or unfair opportunities. This way, they were able to learn the reality of life and survival early on which lead to them developing into fierce, capable wolves who could bounce back from any obstacle stronger than ever before. Despite the lack of a truly warm and fuzzy relationship with her mother, Ingrid knew that she was proud of her and their relationship was as strong as any.
Life went on normally for a long time. She wasn't exactly the fiercest, most barbaric canine in Aesir, but she fit in well enough. Her ways were slightly more compassionate and forgiving than those of her mother, but this was not detrimental to her reputation in any way. In fact, most of the pack admired her unique mixture of beauty and strength - both physically and mentally - causing her to develop much needed confidence very early in her life. She also began to feel a deep connection to the pagan deities that her pack was founded on, an association that was noticed and acknowledged by both her peers and her parents.
Ingrid's closest companion was always her brother. They did most things together as pups, and even as they matured and began forming new interests and duties within Aesir, their relationship remained unbreakable. Ingrid was close to her mother and father, but the only one that she could honestly open herself up to was Arvid. They understood each other and knew what the other was thinking without even needing to speak.
Just when the rest of her life plan seemed clear to the she wolf, everything she knew went up in flames. Literally. The pack lands were overtaken by a monstrous fire that demolished the landscape without any signs of mercy, and Valdis had made the decision for the pack to flee from the continent entirely. The vivid memory of her mother barking and howling orders to leap from the cliff, into the freezing ocean waters below still remains in her brain. Undoubtedly loyal and trusting to her mother, she did just this and swam in the direction of Valdis's birthplace - Anikira.
In the fire, not only did Ingrid lose her stable life, she lost the majority of her pack mates. They were like family to her, and to put on top of that the assumed deaths of her father and beloved brother, it was beyond agonizing to the young wolf. Due to the losses and trauma she went through, Ingrid quickly developed moderate cases of Obsessive Cumpulsive Disorder (OCD) and depression. She fears that these mental illnesses that affect her everyday life and thinking are proof of weaknesses that her mother would not be proud of. Therefore, she does everything in her power to hide her emotional troubles from the world.
Personality:
Ingrid, as her name suggests, is for the somewhat a beautiful female inside and out. Being raised in a pack of viking-like wolves, she is inherently fierce and cold hearted, but she is on the lighter side of this spectrum, you could say. While she is in no way weak minded or easily swayed from her decisions, she tends to hold a bit more mercy and compassion within her than her mother. It takes a lot to receive this type of liberality from her, but Ingrid is not a vicious and emotionless creature. She is stoic in nature and customarily seems well put together and composed from the outside looking in. However, the canine does have moderate cases of OCD and depression which she battles with constantly behind closed doors. These mental illnesses were inflicted upon her due to her losses in the fire that wiped out the majority of her mother’s pack - most notably her brother, Arvid - as well as her time being alone and afraid when she first arrived on Anikira after a frantic swim for her life.
Despite all of the overwhelming compulsions and deep sadness that now take over her mind, Ingrid works very hard to conceal all of this mostly for the sake of her mother. Since she was young, Ingrid was always very confident and able to bounce back from almost anything that was thrown at her - and Valdís especially took pride in this aspect of her daughter’s personality in addition to Ingrid’s close relationship with the deities that they worshiped. But, after the fire that ripped apart the stable life she once knew, the young wolf can’t bounce back fully, and this terrifies her. She doesn’t want to disappoint her mother by showing this weakness and failure. Instead, she hides her pent up sadness inside of her and tries to continue as if the fire only made her stronger. This backfires of course, because she is unable to reveal any of her genuine feelings and release the stress that is put on her shoulders, but Ingrid is strong-willed and will do everything in her power to keep it all a secret.
Ingrid is very much religious and feels a special connections with her deities. Apart from the gods that she worships, Valdís is her biggest role model and has the largest impact on her day-to-day life. She admires her mother’s strength and confidence, and although Ingrid generally is much more forgiving and understanding in some situations, she hopes to be more like her mother when she is older. She is always out to please her mother as well as her elders, and will go out of her way to do so. Their relationship isn’t your typical mother-daughter bond, but they do share mutual respect and loyalty towards each other which forms an unbreakable tie between them. Ingrid is very protective, and the easiest way to provoke her is speaking badly about Valdís. Typically a calm and patient wolf, rash violence is the only option to her when her peers are being verbally or physically attacked or simply when her mental illnesses become too much for her and she just snaps. The latter is quite rare, but her rage can be explosive when this does occur.
