Almasa finally allowed her speed to slow as the forest came into view, breathing a heavy sigh of relief as she eventually came to a stop. She'd come quite a long way from the beach, and now all she wanted to do was accomplish a quick hunt and get some decent rest. Then maybe she could start exploring the rest of the continent. For now, however, the black female's mind was on the hunt.
Freshly fallen snow crunched under her paw pads as the huntress crept forward slowly, painfully, sniffing the ground at odd intervals as she did so. A few times she even slipped on the snow, low growls and curses being emitted from her throat as she did so, but she continued nonetheless. As she traveled, Almasa's mind couldn't help but slip back to thoughts of Leviticus.
He'd been the first wolf she'd met upon washing up on the shores of this massive continent, and he was the first individual that had actually bothered to show her some kindness for a long while. I wonder if he's alright.... after all, I did ditch him in a sense... The black female instantly shook her head stubbornly, removing all thoughts of the older brute from her mind. Quit thinking like that, he'll be alright, I'm sure he's fully capable of fighting...
Almasa mentally scolded herself, from what she'd seen, the brute seemed rather friendly and sociable, but that didn't mean that he couldn't fight. Besides, she hadn't smelled any other wolves on the beach... and, at the moment, she really needed to concentrate on where she was going. Almasa's head suddenly jerked upright as a fresh scent trail hit her delicate nostrils, and it was fairly close, too.
Finally. the Gray female sighed as she came upon a small clearing. A small herd of deer was grazing in the center, ears perked as they listened for danger. Almasa's face twisted into a sadistic grin as she began to search out the weakest one of the herd. It didn't take her that long to find it- a small, rather old deer with a slightly twisted leg that was grazing further away from the others.
Almasa smirked, this deer was going to be a peice of cake to bring down, with that twisted leg it wasn't going to be able to run very far, and even if it did it would have to put extra effort on the twisted leg, making it tire easily. Almasa took one last check of the wind position before she lowered herself into a crouch and sprang out at the deer herd.
The others instinctively bolted, emitting loud bleats as they did so. The injured doe tried to follow, but Almasa had other ideas. She quickly sprang in front of the doe, cutting off its flight path. The doe, eyes filled with terror, reared and kicked its paws at Almasa, narrowly missing her. It was obvious that the doe wasn't about to go down without a fight, but Almasa wasn't going to let her prey get away from her that easily.
With a savage snarl, the onyx female leapt, fangs aiming for the jugular. Her teeth hit their mark, and almost as soon as the hunt had started, it was over. The deer lay writhing in the grass, its last ounces of life quickly fading away from its body. With one final shudder it lay dead, and Almasa moved in for the meal. Her pearl-white teeth ripped into the skin, tearing off large amounts of the fur and flesh.
Almasa hadn't quite realized how ravenous she was, tearing into the carcass savagely and eating a good portion of its hindquarters. It'd been a long time since she'd had a meal this large, and it was wonderful to finally feast on her kill without fear of Lamenta or the other pack members driving her off. After she had eaten her fill, Almasa sat back, licking her lips contentedly.
With a low growl, she cast her eyes to the sky, where the moon was just past the center. She'd need to get a move on if she wanted to reach the beach before sunrise and get some decent rest. Hopefully Leviticus would still be there, and she could give the remainder of the carcass to him while she caught up on some much-needed sleep.
Sinking her fangs into the deer's neck once more, Almasa began to slowly drag her kill along, heading back the way she'd come, and thus beginning her long journey back to the beach.--- end thread---
