Drain the Bone Marrow

"Ah, there you are my lovelies..."

A lithe form of a Grey Wolf stood motionless. The hollow tree consisting of one of his many collections of bones was aged and dead like the forest around him. His collections were small, for the wolf had only arrived on Anikira a few months ago. But so far, each of the spots had at least a dozen different bone shapes and sizes. Some he are proud of and others he is not. If only he could go back home and carry his prized possessions back here with him, then he would be extremely happy. However, that wasn't likely to happen. Sidurost couldn't go back home. All his bones were stolen by scavengers... But this time he had better hiding spots. Nobody would find his treasure, nobody!

For now, Sid settled his new findings in with the rest of the bunch. He didn't find much today, a few remains of birds and rodents, nothing to gloat over. Hah, now if he found an elk or another wolf bone, that would be something to brag about! However, no such luck. His stomach growled in protest. Damn, if only he was a good hunter he would cure this so called... Hunger. Back at home, food was usually served for him. His pack would do the hunting while he was on a hunt for bones. By the time he returned home, there was still some meat on the corpse. And of course, he would take any remains left of the kill back to his graveyard.

In this specific location, a large dead oak tree had a crater inside of it. Sure, it was a two foot leap to get into the hole, but inside was a cavern-like area big enough for a wolf and his bones. This certain area was quite tricky to find, more trickier to get past the wolf pack that claimed this area. "They will never know I'm here." He was sure, but that was what he thought. He was too dense to figure out the minds of other wolves. And besides, this was the first wolf territory he has ever trespassed on. Who knows what was in store for him.

Nyx walked along slowly, her attention to the rich olfactory stew that rolled off this new land. It was seeped heavily in wolf and seemed to her the sheer number of unique and intertwining scents marked ownership of these lands. Though from the cacophony of information she had the suspicion that such a large range was divided among the most dominate as from her own experience the minutiae of leadership became exponentially oppressive after a certain mass of bodies or after more than a few rolling miles. She was still delighting in the puzzle she had found when she became aware of a sharper, more recent trail. Pausing she lowered her small nose to the drying loam, its spongy mass sharp with bitter sulfur - an aged mark of past disaster, the subtle sharp scent that colored the entire area and loaned the shadows cast by rock and root a more menacing edge.

She rolled the flavors over her tongue, enjoying the sulfuric taint that punctuated the information gleamed. Male… alone she thought as there were no other paths, at least form this direction that seemed as fresh. There were a plethora of fainter markers, prey gone too long to be a meal. Perhaps a den where past meals had been brought but not discarded? She lifted her slender skull, light cream optics, shining deceptively silver in the low light peered through the shadows tossed by the twisted and dying forest around her. She held for a moment, the only movement a gentle wind combing her silken ebon pelt.

After a moment she saw no betraying movement and had confirmed her initial read of the scents. She suspected this was not a pack den and felt assured that she was not walking into a larger gathering, placing herself in insurmountable danger less their intentions be less than friendly. Her pace picked up, small paws dancing lightly over the rock and bramble, her pace quickly bearing her towards the source of her interest. A large oak loomed though the branches, she slowed her prancing gait as she neared. Her eyes caught the movement of another, male certainly as his scent read clearly from this distance. She entered the small clearing surrounding the oak, perhaps forged when its once large canopy kept light form the immediate forest wound among the old giant’s roots.

She tried to catch the brujo’s eye, dipping ebon muzzle in greeting. Her pale eyes dancing over the scattered remains haphazardly lining the area. No flesh, or marrow left from the scent to explain their presence other than lackluster cleaning. She brought her attention back to the gray, a silent amusement hidden from her face but made appearance in her eyes. She hoped this encounter would break the tedium of her recent travels.

“Hello” she chimed, her voice a feminine lento.

It was eerily quite in the forest of despair. Once in a while, a hoot of an owl or a rustle of a mouse would cause a single silver ear to twitch. His long thin body laid down, semi-circling around his collection as he began cleaning the newest arrivals if their rotten meat and dead hairs. It wasn't the most pleasant task, but the results were worth it. So, Sid continued, until the last bone was finished and set in the perfect spot where it belonged. Puzzle pieces were always fun to solve, but Sid hadn't been able to find a specific bone to complete the puzzle of the rat. 'I need the spine.'

A sudden louder rustle entered his auds, and he froze in place. Certainly it wasn't another wolf, it couldn't be. He was well hidden, how could anyone find him? Sid laid frozen as a statue as the noise got closer and closer, the scent of a female wolf was lingering in the heavy air of the forest. If Sid was afraid of anything, it was Alpha females. They were bitchy, overly dramatic about the littlest of things. The grey wolf only hoped it wasn't any pack member wolves, or his collection would be in trouble. He would be in trouble.

When the light, gentle voice of a female spoke in terms of 'Hello', Sid twitched his nose and kinked an ear back. He was hesitant to check it out, if he kept quiet she might leave. Sid didn't want anyone to know about his treasures, if he were to reveal himself now, then she'd want to see and possibly tell everyone, then steal them! No, no he cannot allow that. Yet, how did she happen to find him in such a secret location, unless she was tracking his scent. But why? Reluctantly, the grey wolf poked his head out from his hiding spot. Ochre eyes peering down at the ebon fae and he rose a brow.

"You've come to me, but why?" His voice wasn't serious enough to be taken literally. Glancing around his hiding spot, he had thrown out the bones scattered around the tree that were useless to him. They were either too broken, or unidentifiable. Possibly not even bones. Silver ears swiveled as he stood, front limbs on the opening ledge of the tree cavern. With a two feet of tree he stood on added to his height, he greatly towered over the femme. His eyes were hard and focused and confused, why was she here and what did she want was all that was swimming in his head.

Nyx held her place with easy grace, slender frame not betraying unease or any particular rush to see the situation unfold. Burnished eyes slid over the larger male, only slightly visible through the decaying wood, cracked and splintered with age and weather. She could only catch the barest movements and was forced to construct the larger frame from thought though that was hardly a task she was unprepared to complete. Her gaze pausing on the only two initial movements the male conducted. Lowered nose twitched methodically and she could almost see him draw her scent, a single aerial twisted at the call of her voice. He certainly read her but for a moment she had to trust in this deduction as no other reply or movement declared his knowledge. She wondered distractedly why he was so long in his response, interesting possibilities. Puckish smile echoed now not only in eyes, but whispered on her lips she tipped her head to the side, inviting any response, though as difficult as his own body was to read between the smallest cracks in wood she doubted he was aware of the slight changes in her carry.

Eventually a large head emerged from desiccated wood, quizzical and minutely unwelcoming, he looked down at her. Until she was able to gather more information and make an educated decision regarding his potential value or entertainment she opted to present as conservatively jocund, not wanting to seem adversarial to the possibly territorial male. Hinted smile still marking her small façade she looked up, offering the time to formulate a response.

"You've come to me, but why?"

Head tipped further to the side as she looked up at him, his height above her doing nothing to diminish the marked size difference between the pair. Watching him, she was able to see when his amber eyes passed has and flitted over the littered clearing. She allowed her own gaze to break from him, once more sizing up her surroundings looking for the object the male searched for. She noted nothing new upon revisal beyond the expected detris of a dying forest and the evidence of multiple haphazard meals. Her eyes were forced back to the male as his muscles rolled under silken spring coat as he hefted his bulk from the depths of his decaying den.

She pulled back a few light steps to give the male a wider birth. A dancer’s grace evident even in these simple movements, she was a performer always on stage. She allowed her smile to grow slightly to give the illusion that the move was given for friendly respect rather than caution. His eyes were now fully on her and she tried to read him, fawn eyes not giving her as much emotion to pull from as she would have preferred. “Why not?” She replied in practiced honeyed melody. “You aren’t hiding are you?” she added, giving a playful lilt to her words.

Nyx smiled broadened, as she mulled over her situation, eyes flickering between the male and her surroundings, careful to keep the brujo in her peripheral so a sudden movement would catch her and she would not be caught unawares. The clearing was barren and the male had no scent of fresh meat, but death cling to him tightly, entombed in pelt. At first she thought the scent was from the bones scatted about them, framing the two and the rotting wooden sentinel, but with him closer she was able to see the strongest waves rolled from the male. She took another step back, her coy smile freezing on her lips, a painted on pleasantry as cold as a porcelain mask’s tinted two.

With this added information she had decided that this male was not worth the game, warned off by the stench of grave. She pulled back further, before hopping into the thicker underbrush, using small frame to navigate the narrow openings between thorn and brush knowing any with a larger form would have difficulty following her direct trail without considerable force.

The forest was dreary and lifeless it seemed to Nova. The Fae had been walking for some time now, and had found herself in a place that seemed less than humble or giving. Even the trees seemed to cry as they wilted and died. The only sound seemed to be her paws moving steadily and slowly along the dark earth below her.

In the distance voices chimed, and her stride momentarily halted. These lands did not have the open smell of free land. She would be unwelcome trespassing like this.. but her curiosity drove her further. She padded slow and quiet.. her head and body low. Cover. though light, was mildly available as she approached the sounds that fogged her auds.

She quickly shrunk down to the ground laying flat and low. The pads of another scampered by not far form where she lay. They sounded as if not in a hurry or in danger, but casually leaving the scene. But there had been only one who passed her, and she had heard more than one voice among these dead trees. She waited on the dead ground for another set to leave these woods, but it seemed not to come. moments, minutes went by and still no second set. Had they chose to stay where they had been before? it's worth a look

She padded slow and steady, quiet and careful to where she had thought the voices had come from. She was unsure what shed find, as she had come across may things upon leaving home shed never expected. Wolves looked different than her family and pack. How was he to know if she was stalking a mammoth of a beast who would easily make a meal of her? Shed have to rely on her legs or her wits. She approached the smell of wolf.. and of death. Her orbs spotted a gray wolf amongst the dead trees. She stayed among the trees, looking on to what it was possibly this brute was doing out here, and if he was an immediate threat to her well-being.

He seemed preoccupied with some kind of object, or objects within his deathly tree. She stepped out from her cover, her fur, although not colorful or bright, stood out from the gray trees and dying land around them. "What a collection you have there, might i say." she uttered, low and dark, grinning fiendishly and she stepped forth. "Where ever did you find so many animals to take them from..." she trailed, with a twinge of hunger slipped in. She had not eaten in a while, and had only now been reminded. Saliva gathered within her jaws. Her mouth hung ajar and her tongue dangled in hunger, staring upon the collection the brute was enjoying.

It wasn't long after the black fae left when a new one appeared. Jeez, what was with all the bitches all of a sudden? The black femme... Well it seemed like she vanished into thin air. Sidurost wasn't one to believe in ghosts or spirits, but that was just creepy how quickly she disappeared. She asked something, and before he even could reply she was gone in a blink of an eye. Maybe the haunting of the forest was getting to him... Maybe this wasn't the best location to keep his bone collection.

This new female was much smaller than the last, a Red wolf whom he could identify. They had such prominent features, larger ears and smaller, more lithe fragile forms... And also more of a bad temper. Sid wondered momentarily on how exactly these wolves knew about his collection. Obviously they were hidden within the sanctuary of the rotting tree, could the smell be giving it away? Maybe he should clean up a little better, that or find a different location for this specific setting of bones. "Why, thank you figure of my imagination. They are my prized possessions." Sid wasn't crazy, but he didn't know what land he had stumbled upon. Who knew what could happen, this female could disappear like the last one. Possibly this was a ghostly forest.

Her next question made him quiver however. No, he didn't kill these animals to take their bones. Well, maybe a couple... But only for food purposes. "If you think I killed for these bones, think again missy." Sid wasn't a wolf to kill unless it was a good reason. Like for a food source, or from a threat. A threat usually consisting of stupid scavengers trying to steal his collection. With that being said, a couple raccoons were added. Sid was more interested in finding the bones and puzzling them together. So the bones seen laying around the tree were useless to him.

The brute seemed to be taken by Nova's sudden appearance. The male seemed confused and surprised. She did sneak up on him.. It really should have surprised her even less. She grinned at the male, taking a few steps to get a look at his collection. the bones on the ground told the general story. This was the resting place of the ones who were just not careful enough to not fall prey. She felt no threat being in his presence though.

Why, thank you figure of my imagination. They are my prized possessions he said. Her head tilted, but her smile grew. Was this brute that surprised by her or was he plain crazy? Either way seemed interesting. Maybe this wolf was delusional, and maybe her days playmate. Now now dear brute, what makes you think i am not here? In spirit and physical being. She said, teeth in view with her ever widening smile and beaming face. Her eyes narrow and bright, locked in on this stranger. She took another step, not daring to come close enough to give him a chance to strike before she could run.

The brute claimed not to have killed for the bones, leaving her to assume it was for food. Yeah, real likely she droned in her head, rolling her eyes ever so slightly, covering with a blink. Well you must be one hungry boy.. she said darkly. Her head and auds were high, and aroused with curiosity. Your.. collection though.. it looks... well Small to be frank She chimed, her smiled faded and her face taking a serious demeanor. From what i see.. she paused, craning her neck to look upon the bones in the tree she had not been able to fully view, It need variety. Some.. larger collectibles.. if you understand. she said almost with a growl. Her dark grin had returned. It grew wide with the thought ringing through her magnificent head. Her ivories gleamed, surely her beauty was no secret now to this brute. He must have simply found her too much to be real. It made sense now. Maybe keeping up this supernatural feel to her would be fun...

His ochre eyes rolled from the red wolf back to the collection deep within the hole of the tree. "Maybe I'm going senile, there was a female here before you who disappeared out of thin air. Will you do that too?" Sid asked with a rising of a brow, one of his paws shifted on the bark of the tree, sniffing once as she approached closer. She better not be coming up for some funny business, no closer to his collection and there will be some violence.

He listened to her as she spoke. First about him being a hungry boy, then discriminating on the size of his collection. He irked, his face twisting in a rather pissed off formation, she continued talking about variety and sizes. "How dare you tell me how to collect," He started, his eyes narrowed and lip curved upward in a sneer. "As I have said before, I don't kill all of these animals. I find them, already dead and decomposed and I take the remains. Any further questions?" He growled. If only his collection back at home were here, anyone who dared to see it would believe it was a massive graveyard.

"I just arrived on this island, that is why my collection looks so puny. If you return on the next full moon, it'll be much greater." He ended his rant finally. He absolutely hated others dissing on his collection and how he did so. If this female wanted to keep her spine, she'd better hold her tongue about his bones.

She looked upon him blankly, almost board or uninterested in his words. Why talk of the fea she had not fully seen, or really known much about. She had no part in this now. Female? Why.. i have been the only one here as far as i know, aside from yourself. She grinned again. Offering somewhat of a comforting look upon him. I may.. she said in a carnal tone. If i please that is. Inviting.

His face suddenly twisted, becoming distorted and angry. His voice rang out, horrid and agitated. Did this brute now have a vendetta against her for simple criticism? He needed to cool down, and right quick. She would not take kindly to such an attitude. By now shes was about rearin to up and vanish. With such rudeness she didnt blame the other femme for leaving this male. Now now, no reason to get hostile The words hissed out of her maw, a daring move on her part, but why not test the waters.

Such words could be taken as a challenge. she said in response to that his collection would greatly grow within a months time. His ways made him a scavenger in her mind, like a fox. She scoffed in her mind. Such lower beings did not belong in wolf's skin. She smiled fiendishly upon the brute, her lips separating to bring her teeth into full view. Shall i visit again when the moon is full? she dared.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry... I get a little out of hand at times. Forgive me?"

Sidurost pleaded, he wasn't the type of wolf to become a downright asshole about the stupidest things. Well... Actually he was. But at least he catches his actions before they go out of control. And he has the will to apologize for his mistake, he hates feeling guilty. Just feels like his prized collection means more to Sid than his own life. More than anything else in the world, which is why others might think he is insane. No, Sid isn't insane... He just has some weird bone fetish.

The grey wolf inhaled sharply and exhaled, regaining his composure and guilty replacing a smile on his face. He must have frightened her slightly, but he couldn't let her get a better look see of his collection unless she earns his trust. He couldn't go through trusting a wolf then having them stab his back while he was away. Which consisted of Sid showing said wolf his collection, leaving it there for a day and returning with every bone broken and out of place. Nope, he cant let that happen again.

"When the moon is full, I could possibly be at a different location. My other bone collecting hiding spot." Sidurost challenged, wiggling his brows with a grin. "You are more than welcome to come find me though." Well, his word may be a lie. He didn't necessarily have another hiding spot as of date. But if he were to tell Nova this, she might leave his current hiding spot alone in search of him. Yes, this was a test to see if he was clearly outsmarting her. By the next full moon, his treasures will grow.
