Entering the Cold [Joining]

[atrb=background,http://i39.tinypic.com/eijqrb.jpg] After the long hike from the Descai lands, she shivered. She could feel the cold coming into her bones and causing her to lose control of her body. Closing her eyes she knew she didn't like the temperature but then again she was fairly far north, maybe it would become warmer if she travelled south. Howling to alert the pack she walked on to the Shyia borders. She coud feel her fur soaking in the air. Her body was unwelcoming to the cold but it over powered her thin fur. A sliver of breath could be seen as she huffed during her walking. She grumbled to herself and began to pick up the pace from her lovely slow walk to a faster trot. She could still see her breath as she left the mountains and entered into the cover of the trees. She felt it warm but not enough to keep her happy. Howling again, eagerly wanting someone to come along so she wasn't alone in the cold. She could tell in that instant of the afternoon that this land wasn't meant for her. She spotted a rabbit running along away from her but refused to listen to her instinct to chase it. She didn't want to look like a fool to any pack member watching her. She growled to herself and stopped when she got near the border of the Airila. Making herself happy she sat near the base of a tree hoping it would be able to warm her. After her first failed attempt at becoming a shaman she focused her mind in order to try and get into the pack. How had it been so easy for her sister? Her sister had just waltzed into the pack lands and instantly got a position. She envied her sister for making it look so easy but she was also proud that she herself was closer to joining a pack than her brothers had been. Smiling sweetly to herself she praye for the alpha to come find her sitting alone instead of an omega. Useless were the omegas that walked the planet. They couldn't help you join a pack no matter what. words: 357??? muse: really bad notes: merk.

[Toiro]

A large grey wolf padded through the quiet forest, admiring the scenery around him. Shyia was so beautiful. He was so lucky to have it as his home. Toiro shivered as a cool breeze ruffled through his fur, reminding him that winter was on its way. A smile found its way onto his face. Sure, winter was a bit chilly, but he loved seeing how the landscape changed in all the snow. It was like a completely new world.

He'd have to work harder than usual though, to make sure his pack was well fed and comfortable. With both his beta and his only warrior stuck in the dens with injuries, he'd have to rely mainly on the newest members, Castien and Duchess. Which reminded him - he needed to get some ranks sorted out. He still hadn't evaluated the newest wolves as hunters, fighters, or healers, and he'd been meaning to officially promote Spirit to lead warrior for a while now. Her loyalty needed to be rewarded.

Toiro's ears perked up as a strange howl reached his ears. A possible new member? Airila always needed new members. His gait increased into a steady lope as he made his way towards the sound. Another howl rang out from amongst the trees, but this one seemed a lot closer, and… more desperate? No, that wasn’t quite the right word. Maybe lonely was the word he was trying to find?

He could smell the lone wolf’s scent on the wind now – a lovely scent that reminded him of the flowers that grew in a small valley at the base of the Tiadeli Mountains. And the wolf that met his eyes as he emerged from the shadows was no less beautiful – or strange, for that matter – than her howl.

Was she really a wolf? Her legs were extraordinarily long, and her ears were very large. She had bright orange fur, which he’d never seen on a wolf before. And yet… she must be a wolf, or she wouldn’t have howled.

“Hello stranger” he finally spoke, his voice soft but powerful “May I ask what you are doing in the lands of Airila?”

[atrb=background,http://i39.tinypic.com/eijqrb.jpg] Aurora closed her eyes for a moment and lowered her head so she was breathing onto herself. Yet another shiver rippled through her body. She heard footsteps and quickly stood to see a grey wolf come forward from wherever he had been hiding. She glanced over him to see that he was a handsome wolf in the way his fur looked like it had been painted on by the gods. Sadly the maned wolf wasn't interested at the moment in how he looked but rather what he was saying. He greeted her much kinder than the other pack had and almost seemed welcoming to her. She gazed into his deep grey eyes as she noticed how much power they held just like this new stranger's voice. She remained silent for a moment as she stared into his eyes, thinking of how she wanted to answer. She could answer bluntly and say she wanted to speak to the alpha and get things rolling, or she could take the slow path again and start with healing an omega. Maybe this pack was desperately looking for a shaman and would want her right away. She thought silently for another moment before finally speaking. "My name is Aurora and I am seeking a pack that is in need of a healer." She thought for another moment, "Perhaps there is something I can do to show you that my knowledge of herbs is vast and plentiful?" She gave a small smile and looked toward the sky, searching for the sun. Another shiver crawled its way down her spine as a chilly breeze strolled by. Tilting her head slightly she wondered if there was some place warmer for her to stay during the winter. She knew there was plenty of food for she had seen a rabbit on her way to the southern border. Even though the land above rejected her maybe there were caves she could stow live in during the cold and receive food from the other pack members. Surely pack lands with plenty of prey and freezing winters had somewhere warm... A place to store the food away where she could eat it all day long as she healed the other pack members. Maybe she could even recruit a gatherer so all she had to do was sit in a cave and work her shaman magic. She grinned at her thoughts. Maybe... She prayed the pack had good hunters. She prayed that there was some place warm. She prayed they needed a shaman. She prayed that she wouldn't freeze. She prayed that this would be her home... The wolf before her seemed so kind, how could they not all be that way? words: 451 muse: xP notes: It increased! ^^

[Toiro]

Toiro watched the strange female thoughtfully. He would have almost have considered her as pretty, if it weren’t for the fact that both of his previous lovers had died because of him. He could not let himself get attached to another female – not in that way, at least. He’d been hopeless at protecting them, like a male was supposed to, which might be the reason why he was now so protective over his pack. He wanted to make up for the cowardice of the careless fool he’d been in his youth.

The stranger’s voice suddenly jolted him out of his memories, and he returned his focus to the present.
“Well then, you’re in luck, Aurora” Toiro smiled warmly and gave his tail a little wag. “We are indeed in need of a Shaman, especially since one of my warriors was attacked by a rogue bear a short while ago, and her wounds seem to have gotten infected. If you can heal her successfully, you’re in.”

He was teasing slightly about the last bit, but then he realised… why not? Why couldn’t he set a trial period for new members? It was actually a pretty good idea. It would mean that new members had a chance to prove their worth – and would be able to be sorted into ranks as soon as they finished the trial. Hopefully, it would also ensure loyalty, and mean that the newer members were less likely to wander off, because they wouldn’t want to waste all the effort they’d put into joining. The pack would be able to see a wolf’s strengths and flaws before fully accepting them into the family. Yes, Toiro nodded absently to himself, yes, that’s a good idea.

Toiro saw the slight shiver Aurora gave in reaction to the cold wind, and briefly found himself wondering whether she would be suited to the harsh conditions the pack often experienced in winter. Maybe she was one of those breeds that preferred the warmer weather. Toiro had such lovely thick fur, but he’d heard that others weren’t so lucky.
Then again, having shorter fur would be a benefit in the summer, when the weather was so hot that he sometimes didn’t even dare to come out from under the shade. During those months, he was often found lurking in the cool caverns of Lerelm. The caverns maintained a pretty consant temperature all year round and if it got too cold for her, he supposed that Aurora would be able to take shelter there.
