The brute had decided against sleeping tonight, after all, he was rather confident in himself. And, truth be told, he was in a bit of a rush to gather the ferns for dearest Aries. The red wolf had not ventured into the lands of Kamari for quite some time, and as he neared their border he let out a brisk howl, announcing that he was merely traveling through. Rasalas was never quite certain how exactly one went about announcing that they wished to take plants from a pack's territory. The brute shrugged slightly as he slowed his run into a gradual trot. By this point he had already crossed over their border, and was headed towards Kalus's point. It was not long after dawn had brought the vibrant sun over the horizon, and the brute still longed for the darkness. Despite his exhaustion, the red one knew what had to be done. And there was not going to be anyone or anything stopping him.
He was determined to bring medicine for the femme waiting for him back in the Occasus. The femme was wounded, and the last thing Rasalas wanted was for her to suffer. After all, it was not her fault she was blind. Even a wolf with accurate eye sight may not have seen all of the stones and cacti that were lining the water. Rasalas was still beating himself up for being late to visit her last night, if he had only woken up a bit earlier then perhaps she wouldn't have went on the walk and wounded herself so. Alas, the brute tried to convince himself that he could not change the past and needed to focus on helping her get better.
Another brief arrival howl emitted Rasalas' maw, announcing now that he was within the territory. The red brute ruffled himself up slightly, allowing himself to look slightly larger than he already was for a red brute. His nostrils flared, inhaling all the smells of this territory. He took note of the several different wolves that had been in this area recently, it was no doubt near their dens. Ras gulped a bit as he began poking around the ground, searching for the plant that had caused him to adventure this far out from his comfort zone. His tail hung limply between his legs, the nervousness that was growing within himself preventing it from swaying. His paws dug slowly into the dirt as he took each step, his claws ripping up the ground beneath him. The brute was not intentionally trying to look this nervous, yet he couldn't help himself. 'I did make a promise to Aries, that I would return to her always. I do not want her to believe that I am just leaving her, especially not in a time of need.' By this time the sun was set rather high in the sky, it was late morning.
At last, his golden eyes settled on a fern growing near the base of a tree not too far ahead. His auds became erect and a sparkle crossed through the brutes orbs. His trot quickened to an almost gallop of sorts as the brute raced towards the ferns, all thoughts of being stealthy and quiet completely gone from his mind. The brute was filled with sheer excitement, it had been a long time since he had went to search for ferns. And the last thing he needed was to be wandering around a potentially dangerous pack for a few more hours. The brute's stance relaxed and he permitted himself to recline to his haunches and sit for a few moments. It had been a lot of traveling for the brute in the past twenty-four hours, and his travels were not over yet. Rasalas still had to grab the ferns and then adventure all the way back to the femme's resting spot. The journey was well worth it though, and the thought caused his tail to thump gently against the ground. A smile was set upon his maw and he decided to sit for only a few moments longer before gathering the herbs and attempting to head back out. Thus far, the journey had been much more simple and uneventful than he had thought.

Elu had been roaming Kamari’s lands once again, this time looking for a meal to give to his Alphess. He had caught a small deer and was dragging it back to the dens when his ears caught a howl at the border. His tail wagged gently for a moment, pleased to hear that at least that wolf had some sense and respect in him. He set down the deer and howled back, letting the other wolf know that he could travel in Elu’s direction and Elu would guide him through the terra. What he didn’t expect though, was finding the brute so quickly. The Arctic brute frowned slightly, watching him from a ways away, amber eyes narrowed in thought. He watched as the red wolf started to dig into the ground, and that was when Elu moved over to him.
”Greetings!” he called, his voice strong and his tone a little curious. ”You have entered the lands of the Haishin pack – may I ask what you are doing, Sir?” Elu rumbled, taking a stance of slight dominance, letting the brute know that this was Elu’s home. He peered at the ground again and saw some freshly dug herbs. He sniffed them slightly, and then knew that they were not just ferns – they had medicinal quality in them, although Elu wasn’t sure what they did; his mother had only taught him little when it came to herbs. Pulling back slightly, Elu tilted his head and asked, ”Do you need those for something?” The brute wondered whether another wolf was sick or injured, as the red wolf certainly didn’t fit that part.
The white brute was concerned, for he believed that all wolves deserved to get help. He cleared his throat gently and glanced back towards the pack dens that were just visible. They weren’t too far from Kalus’ Point, just near enough for their area to be considered a part of the dens. Elu wondered where Vega was – it hadn’t been that long since he’d left her and Akihra to go and hunt. The brute sighed internally, wondering what it was that he’d gotten himself into; Vega was…different, a little odd in Elu’s eyes, but deserving of a home all the same.
The brute shook himself from his reverie and looked back at the red wolf. Seized by a sudden curiosity, Elu asked in a much less formal tone, ”By any chance, are you in a pack?”
Words;; 406 Muse;; Bad Mood;; Curious. Notes;; I barely woke up, that's why I have a bad post.
The red brute was a bit startled at hearing another wolf call out to him, but what did he expect. This was a pack land, he had smelled it from the moment that he passed into the lands of Kamari. Somehow though, Rasalas had been hoping that this trip would be a quick in and out. It's not like he wouldn't mind conversing with another brute, but it was the potential of dealing with a crazed alpha that made him skeptical. Either way, Rasalas had a great deal of respect for packs and he would do whatever it took to get the herbs and be able to return them to sweet Aries. His orbs twisted themselves to face the sky for a few minutes before his maw opened to speak, the brute wondered if the female was looking up at the same late morning sky and wondering where he was. Rasalas hoped that the river was still serenading her to sleep, so perhaps she would not be lonely or miss him while this adventure took place.
His head lowered itself between his shoulder blades, showing to the other brute that Rasalas knew he was a visitor. "Hello sir," he spoke rather smoothly, elegantly disguising his nervousness. Rasalas had been lucky with the other two creatures he had met recently, perhaps he would not be so lucky this time. Besides that, this other brute was significantly larger than himself. Not like Rasalas doubted his ability to put up a good fight, he just was not particularly a fan of getting beaten up and then having to travel all the way back to the Occasus. If he would even survive the attack. 'Stop thinking like that damn it,' the brute forced the negative thoughts from his mind, he needed the utmost focus for this meeting to go in his favor. "My name is Rasalas," the brute bowed his head low to the ground to more formally greet the creature before him.
Now was the tricky part, he had been caught messing with the ferns, it would probably be best to just admit that they were required. But what if they demanded that Aries travel here to get them? The female would most surely not make this journey and still be cured by purely the ferns. It would take quite an adventure to obtain everything she would require by that point. With a quiet sigh, the red one decided to just state the truth. "I traveled to your land in search of these medicinal ferns. Another creature I know in the South has wounded herself, and these should be able to remedy the injuries as well as clear up any infection she could obtain," the brute nodded after he finished stating his business. It was all true, and the male did seem kind enough, perhaps there would be no issues with him crossing through for a moment. After all, Rasalas was not attempting to take any food from the wolves of the Haishin pack, nor was he intending to burden them in any way at all.
The other male seemed to be thinking for a moment, and that made Rasalas a slight bit nervous. However, the brute inquired rather simply if he was in a pack or not. "There are a few of us that care for each other," Rasalas spoke quietly, "But nothing official as of now. We just sort of stumbled upon each other, and realized that living in the South is rough during these times. Especially with the lack of food." The brute attempted to shrug it off as if his remarks were not a big deal in the slightest. Yet, Rasalas knew it could cause issues, but prayed it would not.

As the stranger lowered his head slightly, Elu couldn’t help but smile on the inside – this brute knew how to respect his fellow wolves and their packs, that much was obvious. For just one second, Elu thought of bringing Vega to meet this wolf, as if he could show her how to act around the pack, but just as quickly he shoved that thought away. ’No,’ he told himself with an inward chuckle, ’That would be a waste of time and not to mention unprofessional.’ As the wolf before Elu spoke his name and bowed his head, Elu’s invisible smile grew larger and larger. ”Well met, Mister Rasalas. My name is Elu Elenessë.” he told the brute, dipping his head politely to him.
As they spoke of herbs and other plants, Elu nodded slightly. ”Ah,” he murmured gently, his gaze swiveling towards the herbs once more. ”I do not believe that my Alphess would mind you taking these herbs – Shamans are generally accepted within the packlands of Anikira, after all.” he said kindly, stepping back somewhat now that the formalities had been covered. ”But, this wolf, she is well enough, yes?” Elu questioned, peering at Rasalas. He wouldn’t want the femme to be severely injured and not offer any sort of help. ”Forgive my questions, it’s just, I would be devastated should something happen and I not offer my help…”
Elu smiled slightly at the wolf as he glanced towards the west, the direction in which the other had come from. ”Do you live in the desert?” he inquired, looking the brute over again. Elu knew that red wolves were one of the desert breeds, and it would also make sense as to why Rasalas had to go elsewhere for his herbs. The Arctic brute could hardly imagine living in the desert, with sand in his fur as the sun beat down upon him… A shudder passed his body slightly, though he managed to make it look as if he were merely shaking out his pelt. Elu had actually grown in a warm place, quite like Kamari in fact, temperature-wise. Still, he would never fancy living in a desert. Come to think of it, the Arctic brute didn’t particularly want to live in the tundra, either. His pelt was thinner than the average Arctic wolf, built for warmer lands.
Elu once again had to pull himself from his thoughts. He apologized to Rasalas and said, ”Please, any plants you may need, feel free…and should you need help, you’re free to return here, the alphess would understand, I’m sure.” He nodded his head slightly, a gentle smile pulling up his lips. Elu glanced back to where the deer lay in wait for him. It was small, but it would definitely feed the pack with a bit left over. He contemplated for a moment before he murmured, ”I’ll be right back.” He trotted over to the fresh carcass, ripped a haunch off of it and carried it over to Rasalas. ”For your friend – I am sure hunting must be hard right now if you’re off finding her medicine.” Elu told him, laying it before him.
Words;; 523 Muse;; Struggling Mood;; Friendly, though slightly worried. Notes;; It was hard to get it this long.
The red brute grinned and lowered his head between his shoulder blade slightly in the more formal greeting that he received from the brute known as Elu. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Sir Elu," A smile crossed his features. Rasalas was thankful that everything was occurring so smoothly, maybe everything was meant to work out. With the way the past few days were turning out, maybe he was meant to live a good life. After all, everything had been pretty crazy recently. Rasalas had finally began recovering from the loss of his sisters, but even that was proving to be a long process. But now he had Aries, and perhaps the brute Scout would show himself again. Even his slight medicinal knowledge proved to be beneficial now. And sweet Aries was so gorgeous in her own unique way, and Rasalas was doing his best not to fall for her.
Falling for the female. That was probably not a wise idea, after all he hardly knew her; yet already he was willing to travel great distances in order to provide her good health and safety. It was more than that, Rasalas had never put a non family member so far ahead of himself. He always believed that he wanted a pack, but until he found one the brute had never sacrificed his own well being for another. After all, Rasalas was extremely hungry and exhausted; yet it was acceptable with him to once again be up all night. Aries needed the best medical attention that could possibly be given to her, perhaps he could see if there was someone here who could help her? Or even go look for Scout? Rasalas knew not what exactly would be the best to do, but he knew that it was highly important to return to the female as soon as he could.
"Thank you, sir," the brute was pleased, "I was hoping that no one would be upset with me. I just was so concerned for my friend, and I believed these medicinal ferns would greatly help her recovery." A visible shiver cast over the brute. What if his welcome back was only greeted with a corpse. 'No, no, I know that she is not ill enough to die. Unless of poison somehow entered her blood stream.' A worried look crossed the red one's features, "Do you happen to know anything about medicine, I hate to ask. I just was wondering," his voice trailed off nervously. Rasalas was not fond of asking for help, especially from a stranger. It made him feel weak and unable to provide for himself or Aries; and being able to care for a femme was always something the brute highly prided himself on.
Rasalas nodded excitedly, pleased that Elu actually cared enough about his cause to inquire. "I do not mind your questions in the slightest, I am just nervous. I hate to intrude, and I can't help but be nervous for it is a femme that I have waiting on me. But she is sleeping now. We live in the desert, and as desert dwellers we typically use the night for our awake time. Hopefully the rest will aid her recovery, sorry for rambling." The brute was flustered, and it was highly showing. What was he to do? It was the male's responsibility to care for a female, and leaving her alone only made him nervous. It was a situation all to familiar for him, and that proved to ruin a great portion of his mental stability. 'Don't worry about the girls right now, worry about Aries. Their fate has been sealed, this lovely female's has not,' it was difficult for Ras to attempt to put Aries above his own blood. However, there was no other choice at the moment. He was not willing to let Aries die because he was preoccupied in his own mind with his sisters. That would be a shameful and humiliating way to lose something that he already found so dear to his heart.
The brute's heart stopped for a moment as Elu wandered away and returned with meat. "But sir...." the brute stammered his mouth hanging slightly agape. 'This creature is truly a Saint.' For once anger did not rush into Rasalas's features. The warmth coming from within himself was thankfulness, perhaps good wolves were more plentiful than he first believed. Had Aries not mentioned the creation of her own pack, Rasalas would have most surely attempted to bring her to this land. "You are a life saver," Rasalas showed a more submissive stance than before. "Thank you, sir Elu. You could be saving a creature's life that you do not even know. That is the sign of a blessed soul." The red one felt rather honored to be in the presence of a creature who was so giving. "I usually would never accept these gifts, as I can not help but having pride in my survival abilities. But in these severe circumstances I will warmly accept your gift, and believe me sir Elu; regardless of what you tell me, I am going to bring you a gift in the near future." A thankful smile was cast in the other's direction.

Elu nodded slightly to Rasalas, his gentle smile in place upon his black lips all the while. He felt sorry for the poor brute before him, who looked dead on his paws and ready to collapse. Yet still, he felt the stirrings of respect for the red male – it took true dedication and friendship in order for one wolf to go without sleeping or eating, travelling nonstop in order to help another. As the other spoke, Elu nodded slowly, noting the brute shiver. He cleared his throat slightly before speaking, ”You are very welcome Rasalas. I will pray to Fenris that she turns out all right – and worry not about the ferns. They are only plants, after all.” Elu chuckled, shaking his head.
Elu knew that Akihra wouldn’t mind – after all, he believed that every wolf deserved help in their times of need. Still, he knew when to draw the line, but Rasalas was not tricking him, he as certain of that. What wolf would steal herbs, anyways, when nearly every pack allowed them free passage? No, Elu was sure that he was in the right, and helping out the poor brute and his friend was the best thing he could do. Elu bit back a chuckle as Rasalas inquired about whether he was learned in herblore. The Arctic brute merely shook his head, saying, ”No, I am afraid I don’t. Nor does Haishin currently have a Shaman – I fear the only service that I can do you is allow you passage.” Elu sighed a bit sadly, feeling as if he were letting the stranger down. He had always had a large, kind heart, always wanted to help those who needed it.
But this time, it seemed that he could do little else than give his words of encouragement and speedy recovery. As the poor brute started to ramble, Elu shook his head once more. ”No, do not be nervous. And do not worry, the intrusion is of little importance. As for your friend, I am sure she will be fine, rest and medicine will help her. Please, don’t worry. I understand.” Elu told him gently. He wanted to best for the brute and his friend, and would help in any way he could. Surely his Alphess would understand.
After Elu had given Rasalas the meat, the white wolf noticed his mouth drop, and another chuckle came from his maw. Yet again, he shook his head. ”It is the least I could do.” he told Rasalas, bowing his head slightly. ”And as for saving a life, I believe that you will be doing that. But I have lived my life, wanting to help others. Any life is worth saving – it is the way I was taught.” Elu continued, his voice slightly more serious now. ”And Rasalas? We are all harboring too much pride – you must learn control. One cannot truly survive on his own.” The brute bowed his head deeply, backing away. He cast his gaze in the direction of the deserts before he barked, ”Now, go tend to your friend. I am sure she misses you.” With that, Elu turned back to his carcass and proceeded to drag it into the dens. At least he had done some good today.
The smiles and encouragement offered by the other brute were making the brute feel much better about himself. The last thing he wanted was to fail in any sense of the word. His pride was an evil thing, it drove him to all ends of the world. Rasalas was slightly a fool for falling such a victim to his pride; yet, it had not harmed him severely enough. The brute had not suffered enough to realize that pride could be a terrible thing; even when one is within a pack. Pack life sounded quite ideal to Rasalas, but it was quite the question if he would be able to give in to his pride at certain times. However, the brute did not need to worry yet; after all, he was still a loner.
A chuckle escaped his parched mouth, "The prayers are much appreciated. And I ensured that they will still be able to grow back, I did not destroy their roots by any means." One more nod, and the brute began bundling the ferns up to make everything significantly easier to carry. As long as the Alpha did not mind and there would be no issues, then it would be time for Rasalas to head out. Even prior to Elu's remark about leaving, the brute was mentally preparing himself for the journey back South. It was going to be a bit more difficult than coming here, especially after the momentary rest. The conversation had began to lure Rasalas into a false comfort, the brute had intended to stay on edge in order to keep himself well alert. Some things failed every time, but now it was time for the travels. Even if he was not quite ready that was not going to prevent the inevitable outcome.
Rasalas pressed himself against his hind legs, allowing his front ones to be stretched forward. His body was tense, and it was a feeble stretch to aid him in loosening up. "Your kindness is much appreciated, Elu. And I will bring a small gift to you and your pack to show my gratitude for what you have done for me tonight." The brute smiled for a moment before yawning, indeed it was time to go; otherwise, he felt as if his brain would turn off without his control. "It is good that your pack does so well without the use of medicine. It shows you have intelligent survival skills," Rasalas nuzzled the bundle and the meat close together. It would be a struggle to carry both of them; but confidence and pride would be more than excited to drive him to. The brute spoke briefly again, "And perhaps pride does control our lives too much; alas, some habits are hard to get rid of." Rasalas turned his back towards Elu as he finished preparing his makeshift bundle to return to Occasus. "Have a good day," the brute said as Elu turned to walk away.
With a soft sigh the brute gripped the bundle tightly in his maw and began his journey south. Originally his pace was at a slight trot, but his muscles soon became less tense and he was able to burst into a full run. The sun was still high in the sky, but the brute knew it would be night time when he returned to Aries. Rasalas would be unable to make it all the way back without stopping somewhere briefly for a drink, thus it would take a bit of additional time. Aries was worth all of this trouble, he was certain of it. Seeing her figure before him would bring back those happy fluttery feelings from within. With that the brute focused his mind on the journey, and forgot about the past.
