Dahlia had left the nice and warm forest where she use to live with her family. Those traitors! Leaving me behind like a dead beat! She had met with a few other lone wolves who had told her that if she wished to join the Airila pack, she would have to go look out north for a wolf called Toiro. He was the alpha male of this pack and would be the one to decide if she was fit or not for the pack. She didn't like the fact that this pack was located up north of Anikira, but they seemed like the wolves she would mostly get along with.
The red wolf made her way through different terrains and followed the north direction that a lone black wolf had pointed out. She had been walking, trotting and even running since last night. It was now early morning, the sun was already up and Dahlia was getting hungry but she was almost to destination, she could push herself a bit farther. The air was getting colder the closer she got to this place called Shyia.
Da' stopped in her track as she clearly smelt the pack's territory. She looked around between the trees and smelt the air, nobody was that close. She took in a deep breath and let out a loud and long howl. Her howl was soft and inviting, she didn't want them coming out thinking another wolf was confronting them. She sat down and waited with her ears erect, listening for any sound through the bushes.

The grey-furred alpha wandered along through the forest, with no particular destination in mind. It was nice sometimes to simply walk through the territory and admire the beautiful landscape. He felt so blessed to have it as his home. Toiro shivered as a cool breeze ruffled through his fur, reminding him that winter was not over yet. But he didn’t mind; his thick grey coat was well equipped to deal with the colder temperatures. And he loved seeing how the landscape changed in all the snow. It was like a completely new world.
His ears perked and swiveled as a pretty feminine howl drifted through the air. It sounded as though he was wanted, so he turned and began to make his way through the forest towards the border. He made no effort to hide his approach through the trees; there was no need to fear from someone who had called for him and the large grey alpha didn’t want to startle her.
When he came within sight of the she wolf he was mildly surprised. A red wolf? Here? Toiro hadn’t seen many of her species before, and the ones that had come hadn’t stayed long in the chill. Well, he would hear out her request, even if it was just to pass through. She had been polite enough to wait at the border after all.
“Greetings, stranger. Who are you, and what is your purpose here in the lands of the Airila pack?” When the large grey wolf spoke, his voice was strong but kind. He didn’t want to frighten her, because he wasn’t that type of wolf, but she should know by the dignified way he held himself that he was one with power in this territory. He never abused that power though, and would probably be criticised by other alphas as being too kind to his members. Toiro never used unnecessary aggression, and the relationships in the pack were based on closely knit bonds rather than the fear of retribution.
Dahlia waited not too long before she heard someone come through the trees and snow. She was getting cold already, not unsupportable but she found it rather unpleasant. Having spent the last few months in warmer climates she hadn't have a chance to grow any extra fur. She stood up as she noticed a male's scent and looked out between the trees. It didn't take too long before a large grey wolf came out and asked about her doings out here. She even wondered herself if this wasn't a waste of time, a bad decision perhaps not completely thought through.
The wolf stood in front of her with a dominant posture, but wasn't aggressive. He was simply showing that he was a high rank around here. "My name is Dahlia," she hold back a shiver from a breeze of the cold air, "I have been a loner for a little while and had heard about the packs that where around here. Out of all the options, I find the Arila pack was the most welcoming feeling to me." She sat down and looked around the forest, mainly staring at the snow. "I have to say though I haven't thought that much about this snow on the ground."
She was interested in this pack but their location wasn't quite fit for her type of wolf. She already missed the warm sun on her back and head. Dahlia then wondered if she could ever get use to this temperature. She thought that maybe after a summer here, next winter she would grow that extra coat she needs to stay warm. "May I ask who you may be?", she asked with a friendly smile and a sparkly eye. This wolf seemed nice enough not to attack her on sight, maybe he could be usefull for her. If this wasn't going to be her home, maybe he could guide her to another location.
The strange she wolf spoke, introducing herself as Dahlia. So she had heard about Airila, had she? Toiro was glad that the pack had a good reputation amongst the loners on Anikira; he certainly tried to keep on good terms with them. She then asked what his name was, a fair question since he’d asked for hers.
“My name is Toiro; I’m the alpha of the Airila pack,” he responded with a gentle smile. He wanted to show this femme that he was friendly despite his huge size and steely grey eyes. Looks were not what mattered; it was a kind personality that was key. Perhaps then he shouldn’t judge her for her short fur. She might have better survival techniques, and he was pretty sure his shaman had once mentioned some kind of herb that kept a wolf warm whatever the temperature. It depended how determined Dahlia was to be part of the pack; he didn’t think the cold would kill her but it might be more uncomfortable than in the southern territories, especially now in winter.
Winter was the worst season for Airila. Prey was scarce and the mountain range especially could be very dangerous, the land up there often fallen prey to avalanches or snowstorms. It was very cold too, so much so that even the arctics could sometimes feel the chill through their thick fur. But maybe it was a good thing that she had come here now, in the coldest season. This was nearly as bad as it was going to get, and if she could cope with this, she would be fine in spring, summer and autumn. And she seemed friendly, which was a good quality in his eyes.
“So are you interested in joining us?” he asked curiously. Her earlier words had seemed like that was what she wanted but it wasn’t totally clear to him if she had yet made a decision about it. He wouldn’t rush her for an answer though; she needed to be sure that this was what she wanted, to get whatever doubts or questions she might have figured out.
