Blind to everything except what was in front of him. He was deaf. Deaf to everything except his own thoughts. He was unfeeling. Stripped of every emotion he had felt yesterday and replaced with only one expression. Footfalls were heavy as he trotted along the valley in the Tia’Deli Mountain range. His youthful and fit form jolted with every step he took because with every step he made sure to force his paw into the earth, rake his claws against the terrain beneath him as if that would somehow expel the choking anger from his body. His body was rigid and the tension rolled off of him like high tide; drowning everything that was misfortunate enough to be in his way. A permanent scowl was fixed upon his otherwise handsome features. Through gritted teeth he swore to himself aloud, “She. Will. Pay!” He had lusted for her and she abandoned him once more. It was an act of betrayal that needed to feel the wrath of his swelling anger. Though when the time would come, those emerald eyes would halt him in his tracks, her feigned innocence would melt him, and her whimper would burn him, deep, in a place that he should not burn for her. She was none other than Meridian; daughter of the former Alpha of Salen Denali, and bastard child of what would be the Beta of Salen Atreyu…and the full-blooded sister of Kodiak Black, heir to a pack that no longer existed. Since the siblings found one another at the shore of Ia’gha Lake in the neighboring territory, the two shared kisses that lingered a little too long, and words of devotion that should be saved for lovers. Meridian was known for her aimless wandering, that much Kodiak had known. What he did not expect was for her to wander so far away, in the middle of the night creeping away like nothing they had shared meant anything to her! Kodiak felt cheated and betrayed, and he was looking for the unfortunate soul that happened to cross his path. “If I get my paws on that bitch…” he growled at the thought. What Meridian did not know was going to hurt her. She thought her brother was a sweet gentleman because of the way he treated her while they were together. What she did not know was what kind of monster he could turn into since their father infected his heart and mind with his ways. Meri did not know what he had done to little females such as her for lesser offenses against him than the one she had caused. For the past hour, burnished gold eyes were alternating between the expanse of terrain that still lay ahead of him and the vultures circling just above the valley. For the first time in weeks he felt hungry and wanted to fill his stomach. His manic moods often left Kodi either gorged or empty because he was too busy fulfilling other desires. There was a caribou carcass lying in the scrub brush that covered a good portion of this mountain range. Large birds circled around the carrion pulling off chunks of cured flesh. Kodiak’s presence was enough to send the vultures bounding away from the caribou. A good portion of the carcass had already been eaten by other scavengers, but there was still enough good meat left that Kodiak chanced staying put for longer than a moment to pee. The young wolf was not sure what had caused the caribou to die, and at this moment he did not care to ponder such miniscule ideas. They were irrelevant to the instinct to protect what was left against stubborn vultures, lingering coyotes, and other larger predators that were not above scavenging from a perfectly good meal. ***** words: six thirty-three. muse level: high. notes: angry kodi...oohh... |
