Geist’s northern adventures had left a sour mood with him, but day’s turned warmer as weeks passed, and traveling south had it’s own warming effect. By the time the Maned wolf had reached the Acerbus, he barely recalled the unpleasantness of the cold bitter air up north; or the thoroughly unenjoyable Hawkeye. That guy was too odd, he couldn’t just awkwardly lay in silence with the rest of them until the snow storm had passed. The brute kicked himself for bringing back memories to spoil his currently good mood.
Life was pleasant when you had freedom to roam, but a lingering danger loomed overhead for anyone without a pack behind them. Since his arrival, Geist had made plans to join packs, but indecision had overtaken and his mind couldn’t be pulled into one clear direction. Instead, he chose to ignore his desire to join and roam until impulse told him which pack was the one for him.
The lands were drying at the further south, but humidity clung to fur like a pest, abundantly clear storms were on their way. A small breeze rolled by every minute or so, Geist found this walk rather relaxing. Which it was, until the sounds of gushing water invaded his quiet serenity, and the ground beneath his paws turned to sand. The small hot grains weren’t enough to burn, but the Maned wolf found it irksome to tread on. Leaving a trail behind, unintentionally, there was a noted scent of dominance over the lands. Pack lands. The brute stayed alert, hoping they were friendly enough to strangers on their lands. He could lie if need be, he was a loner and had no pack scent on him, say he wanted to join.
Each step brought the rushing liquid sounds closer, a short distance away laid an aggressive river, wide, and harshly protected. Jagged, slippery rocks, and keep bushes prevented easy access to the active waterway. Nevertheless, the tall male strutted toward the water’s edge. There was a cool air that blew near the water, most likely caused by how vicious the liquids moved. Taking a seat near by, Geist looked out at the vast sands. This place had never made a lick of sense to him, how it could go from lush grassland, to a volcano, followed by an immediate desert was beyond his capabilities to understand; it simply all amazed him.
The brute wondered, would he happen upon pack members? That would be something to deal with, he was left unsure if he should remain in their lands. Worry washed over him, what if they aren’t friendly. He wasn’t up for a fight, and he was a bit turned around. The only guiding object, he recalled, was the volcano that was passed on the way down here, and he hadn’t known how far till then from here was. Overwhelmed by what-if scenarios, Geist sat where he’d been for minutes, just staring out lost in thought. It was a rather peculiar sight to see, seeing as he hadn’t even blinked in the duration of minutes since arrival.
