Ryker hadn't left the dens since he first discovered that Shayde, his second mother, and his only remaining blood sister, Kyra had disappeared. The pack hadn't broken the news yet to the young pups, especially Zirena, Zephyros and Sypher but Ryker was older and knew what was going on. He was smart and new something had happened to them when their scents started to go cold. His sister was never one to stay in one place for very long so he had assumed that maybe she took some time to herself and would return but he always thought that she would have at least told him. They were never the closest siblings but they were all that they had left and now Ryker feared he was the only one. He couldn't help but think that the worst had happened to them. But why them? Why two of the wolves who mattered the most to him? Why him? It seemed like Ryker always had the short end of the stick or the bad end of the bargain. He had tried to be strong before but he didn't want to be strong anymore. He just wanted to lay there on his side in the dark dens and stare at the wall. His body wouldn't allow him to do anything else. The young two year old had been through more in his lifetime than most adults wolves have in seven years. He wasn't sure how much more loss he could take. The depression he was feeling was evident as he hadn't eaten anything in several days let alone left the dens much. It was a struggle for him just to stand.
He was a shadow of his former self and honestly, he was ashamed of himself for acting this way but he couldn't help it. He wanted to be the strong rock that nothing phased but the rock was breaking. Shayde had helped him through his brother's death but now who was here to help him now? Some wolves forget his age on account of his size but his life experience was limited. The majority of his life was filled with pain but he was never truly shown how to deal with it. Shayde had brought him hunting after his brother's death and then cleaned his face. He remembered that day clearly and with detail. He was only seven months old then and had just come to Descai. Zirena sometimes came in to lay by him or try to cheer him up but her efforts were useless. It seemed like nothing would ever pull him out of this awful feeling.
He knew that his father was in the process of selecting the heir to Descai. He hadn't said much, if anything about it but Ryker was smart and very observant. He knew that his father had been watching his offspring more closely in recent months than before and it was only reasonable to think that that was what he was doing but honestly, Ryker hadn't thought about that. He didn't even know if he cared about being the alpha at this point. Nothing mattered to him anymore. He didn't find joy in anything anymore. Maybe he should follow his mother and leap from the cliff and hope that fate would let him die. He didn't want to deal with the pain anymore. Too much pain. He had heard of wolves who bit themselves in the legs to numb their feelings. He wasn't sure if it would work or not but it might be worth a shot. He was willing to do anything to make it stop.
He wrapped his teeth around his front right leg and bit until he tasted the metallic liquid on his tongue. He let go and let it bleed.
