Kadar woke up from a mid afternoon nap he was taking. He rubbed his head on his leg to wipe away the crusties that had been forming there. He yawned and stretched by leaning all his weight on his hind legs and then leaning all his weight on his front legs. He shook his fur to rid himself of any dirt that may have gotten on him.
He knew the dens fairly well as it was where he spent the majority of his time. He had learned every bump, rock, crack and crevice to his home. Being born with absolutely no sense of sight, it was necessary that he learn everything about his whereabouts so he doesn't get injured. However, his discoveries had not come easily. He frequently walked into walls, stepped on rocks, stubbed his feet, and just plain ran into others. But now, he had things pretty much figured out (except for the running into others part because they moved).
The young male decided that he wanted to leave the dens today. He knew his home was located in an elevated area. His parents and others referred to it as a mountain. He wasn't sure exactly what that meant because he couldn't see it. He had been told to stay away from the edge of the dens by his parents for fear that he might fall. However, he was getting bored with just laying around and doing nothing. He wanted to try to go down the mountain. He wasn't sure if all his siblings were still in the dens but he could hear the breathing of a couple of them.
Kadar stretched out his neck, looking for the wall of the cave. He walked slowly until his nose touched something cold and solid. He moved his body so that it was touching the side of the cave. He walked slowly, remembering which way was closer to the exit and which would lead him farther into the dens. He wanted someone to come with him for fun-ness' sake but he was comfortable going alone too. His steps were slow and a bit nervous.
He reached the edge of the dens and smelt the air. It smelled heavy and wet, like rain was coming. Kadar payed this no mind though and wanted to continue with his mission. He took a deep breath and reached one paw out in front of him. He slowly lowered it until he felt solidness again. It was a fairly sharp decline but not impossible to navigate (for someone with sight that is). He smiled to himself and stepped another foot out and another and another until he was completely out of the dens. He stepped again, moving farther from the den and farther down the mountain. The father he got though, the harder it was to find sturdy parts to place his paws. He even slipped and fell on some ice. Kadar was becoming scared.
He didn't know this but he was actually only about 10 feet away from the entrance from the dens. He tried to turn himself around and climb back up but the two month old's muscles weren't developed enough to climb back up. He felt stranded and alone even though he was still in eyesight of the den.
He was beginning to really regret his decision to disobey his parents.
