Dainty red paws picked carefully through the marshy terrain, moving the tiny she-wolf forward and into Tor's Marsh from the plains of the Aveline. She had spent her morning hunting mice, and though she was typically talented in the art, today she had come up with only a few small snacks. Her dark yellow eyes scanned the area surrounding her, hoping for even the slightest hint of a meal. Why she would come here in hopes of food baffled even her, but since she knew very little about these territories still, she had managed to wander here by chance. Luckily for her, there was prey here. The only problem was, she had to catch it.
She had never hunted duck before, and with the threat of crocodiles and water moccasins, she had to be extra careful. She was several yards away from the feathery animals - who had yet to see her - and she sank down so that the fur on her belly began to brush against the soggy ground beneath her. The animals were in the water, floating lazily and pecking at reeds every once in a while. The red-hued female carefully edged closer along the edge of the murky water, her eyes on her target and unfortunately, not on muddy water beside her. Her next step proved to be a huge mistake, and as her small paw hit the dark liquid, causing it to ripple outwards, she stopped and held her breath. Yet another mistake. Yes, she had alerted the ducks of her approach, sending them up into the air noisily, but she had also alerted something else.
With a heavy sigh, she watched her prey fly away, her left paw resting a few inches into the water beside her. That's when it happened. There was another ripple in the water, this time originating from within its depths. Her tail flicked and her eyes finally moved down to the water, curious as to the source of the movement of the water against her leg. It all happened too fast. The scaled creature lunged from the water, she sprang backwards - but not fast enough. Teeth closed on her left hind leg and she cried out in pain, scrambling against the soft terrain to free herself from the creatures jaws. The crocodile had a different idea, and instead of releasing her, it instead dragged her into the water, where - lucky for her - it shifted to get a better grip, giving her just enough time to pull her leg free and claw her way onto the bank. Finally free of the enormous jaws, she pulled herself backwards, snarling at the creature as it emerged from the water once more and made a slower approach. She continued to pull herself backwards, dragging her bleeding and twisted hind leg as she went, finally coming to a dead end against a large rock and a thick tree-trunk.
Somehow she had managed to get herself trapped, and though the crocodile was in full view now, her only escape would be to leap up onto the rock, which she could not do without the use of her left hind leg. So she did all she could, turning on the creature and snarling defensively, baring her teeth and pinning her ears back. All she could do now was hope that the animal decided she was not worth the fight. It was only a couple yards away from her now, and she pressed herself back against the rock silently praying for some miracle that would save her life.
