Ryker's heart beat inside his chest as he waited to make the call. He felt like he needed to address the pack as their new alpha. It had never been officially announced and he knew that some may not take the change of power well. He knew that it would take a while for them to see him as their alpha and not Vorilye. He knew that some would still look to his father for leadership even though the once king was now the beta to his son. Ryker knew he had made the right decision in keeping his father a beta. He needed his guidance and reassurance. The young alpha felt like he had been thrown into this situation with little to no training. He felt overwhelmed, stressed, and frightened but he knew that Descai couldn't have a weak alpha. He couldn't show weakness to them. They would chew him up and spit him out. He had known most of these wolves for the majority of his life but that didn't change anything. He needed their trust and their loyalty but he also needed their obedience. If he allowed himself to be a lax leader they would over run him. He needed to keep them on a tight leash until they understood that he was now the king and regardless of his age, they needed to listen to hm. It was a scary thought for Ryker to know that Descai was now in his paws. Every decision that he made would affect all of them. Every move he made would be watched and scrutinized. He had large paw prints to fill and he knew if he was anything less than his father... well he didn't want to think about what would happen then. He didn't care so much that the pack gossiped about him. That was an inevitable thing. What he cared about was letting Vorilye know that he made the right decision.
Ryker needed to kill the fear that he was feeling. The best way to do that was to jump head first and conquer what he was afraid of. He howled to the pack without a second thought. He told them to come to him. He stood in front of the dens, waiting, and thinking about what he had just done. Now he had to speak in front of them. He took a breath and told himself to stay strong.
