Ryker hiked his butt all the way up the cliff known as Ryn-Eldbel. It wasn't as easy of a task as it seemed. There were rough, jagged rocks littered everywhere as well as explosives. He had never actually seen any explosions and he doubted that there were any actually there but on the off-chance that there were, Ryker didn't feel like getting exploded into a million pieces.
When he reached the top, he looked over at the water beneath him crashing against the earth. This was one of those spots that Ryker thought that he'd never travel back to again. His mother had committed suicide here. Only months ago, this place held some of his darkest memories. But now, it was one of his favorite places. Perhaps it was the rough climb up here that attracted him. Maybe it was the threat of falling. Whatever it was, this place made him feel at peace. He liked to come up here to think and reflect.
It's fair to say that Ryker didn't get the best hand of cards but he was done feeling sorry for himself. The past was the past and there was nothing he could do about it. All he could do was look forward. His fourth birthday was quickly approaching. It was hard to think that his life was already almost half-over and what had he done with it? Mourned for his family? He was disgusted with how he had spent the past 3 years and 5 months doing nothing. He had been given the gift of life. He was the one who had survived. The only pup from his litter to have made it. He needed to celebrate that fact instead of feeling sorry for those he lost. However, that didn't change the fact that he felt the need to do something. His father had left Descai in his paws with the hope that Ryker would make it better. He had heard an old parable about a man who had given money to each of his sons and each did something to create more money except for one. The one son had burried the money and given it back to his father. Ryker refused to be that son.
He knew just how to make Descai better.
