Shaking her fur out, Senka wondered where the best place would be for her to take shelter during the coming winter as she allowed her eyes to roam the land before her. There had to be something there, what with the pools that she saw littering the ground and the trees she saw that swung around the edges of the the horizon. A small cave that once belonged to a bear, an old dug out den of a badger even would suit her for a few weeks at least. Anything really, that would fit her large frame.
At the moment though, she was looking to quench her thirst so she went to one of the small pools that were flung across the land and dipping her muzzle into the cool water of the pool, drank deeply from it. The water settled in her gut heavily, reminding her she still had to eat for the day and she knew it was right. Perhaps if there was another wolf around, they could find something big to take down and eat together, for her stomach rumbled loudly and protested the thought of having to capture another fish, rabbit or other small creature again. Even if they were food and food meant she survived to see another day
But that would mean seeing your father again a cruel voice mused in her ear. you know, the one everyone thinks you killed?
"No," she whispered to herself, drawing her jaws from the water and glaring at the refection that glared back furiously. The amber eyes that glared back were her mother's, the very ones she gifted her daughter but the fur covering her face...The ruddy brown that stuck up everywhere no matter what her mother had down to it, that. That was her father's coat. "I will not take my life. It's not honorable." She quietly told herself, and knowing her father wouldn't want her to take that action. She could see the disappointment on his face, when he would greet her where all wolves went.
Who cares what is honorable. The voice cooed sweetly. Look, there is water just there. Your family already thinks you dead. Hold your head under, just for a few moments. Feel the breath leave you, feel the bubbles of life escape you...
"NO!" Senka snarled angrily, lifting her paw and bringing it down on her refection, splashing water up and onto her fur. But she didn't care that she was wet now, sitting at the edge of the pool with one paw still hanging in the water and panting. Lowering her head, Senka sat there for quite some time, closing her eyes and simply trying to make herself relax.
