History: Emerald’s mother died when she gave birth to three weak, ill pups on the island of Anikira. Her father, drowning in sorrow and grief, didn’t pay much attention to his pups.
So the litter, unnamed, lived a broken, dull puphood. One day, Emerald was feeling brave. She approached her father.
“Father.”
“Daughter.”
“Why don’t we have names?”
“You remember I'm your father?” he asked, completely ignoring Emerald’s question. Emerald tilted her head in a pleading-like manner up to her father.
“May we be named?”
“N-named?” he stammered, his mind obviously on other things.
“Everyone else has names!”
“I g-guess so.”
So Emerald and her father went to the nursery. His father had a horrified, uneasy look on his face. The last time he’d been here was to say goodbye to a stiff, blood-soaked body.
“Father?”
“O-okay. Here we go. Right, you little grey one, you’re, um, Coal.”
“Coal?” he croaked.
“Yes. That’s, er, your name. Anyway, the light brown one will be… Petal.”
“Petal.”
“Yes, that’s right. Now… One more. This little white one… She’s so bright and luring… Emerald. Yes, that’ll do, Emerald.”
“Thank you father!” Emerald squeaked.
“Now don’t bother me any more.”
The days went by, and slowly, Emerald’s world began falling apart. Her littermates died of cold and illness. Her father wandered off and never came back. Her pack completely ignored her. As far as she was concerned, she was no more important than an omega.
When she was so broken and torn that she couldn't bear it anymore, she went out. For a long time. She seeked a wolf, a friend, a mate, just someone that she could confide in and talk to. After trudging through snow, slush, ice, foliage and who knows what else, she found someone. A wolf. A friend. A mate. She played and lived with this wolf for some time. But she decided to come back to her pack after a while. She missed having the company of wolves that she knew would protect and care for her. Not that Leaf wouldn't do that. But her pack… was her home. It was her heart. It was where she belonged.
So she returned. But when she was back, she discovered she was expecting Leaf’s pups. And to make the situation worse, the pack didn't exactly welcome her back. Afraid, Emerald ran off again, for peace. She gave birth alone, and raised her two pups alone. Emerald knew she had to come back one day, but she couldn't with two pups. Not even two grown wolves. That would make her done for immediately. But wouldn't she be hated anyway, after being gone all that time? It doesn't matter, she told herself.
So she raised and nurtured two healthy, happy pups until they were full-grown. But then she had to let them both go, which broke her heart. She trudged back, upset and in torment.
Emerald eventually earnt her place back in her pack, but her heart was still broken. Emerald left for the final time, never to return.
Personality: Emerald is quiet, shy and reserved. She can be very emotionally unstable at times, but inside Emerald is wise, and has seen what the oldest elder may have seen.
This wolf is empathetic and can almost ‘see into your soul’. She knows when wolves are happy, she knows what they’re thinking about, she can see into your history. Emerald could take a quick glance at a sample of your fur and would be able to tell your life story.
She is very spiritual and knowledgeable.
Emerald is loyal and loving if you can earn her trust. If you gain her love and trust, she’ll love you for life and defend you loyally with everything she possesses.
The thing is, earning her love and trust is almost impossible. She is scarred, battered and torn. The reason Emerald is so quiet and reserved is because she doesn’t want to risk loss again. She will avoid relationships and social situations at all costs. Emerald almost considered leaving her pack because of the pressure of being around all the wolves. Eventually though, she left for different reasons.
Emerald focuses on the present; she knows more than any wolf that the past is the past and you mustn’t look back. She doesn’t look back because it hurts, it tears at her heart. If a wolf dies, she would attend the funeral and then pretend they never existed. If prey was caught, she would eat it and pretend her stomach is still empty. She hates remembering the past.
