Snow Angels (Kayi)

[Tala]

Tired and lonely, the fleet footed Tala slowed from her trot until she came to a full stop. Her head lowered and tail draped towards the ground as she sucked in a few breaths. Finding nothing to hunt here, she felt like a failure to the pack. Would Golitah be upset with her? Surely he knew not every hunting journey she went on would result in the bounty of prey brought to his feet. Or did he expect perfection? She felt he might......

Deciding to take a brief respite, she lowered herself to the ground and closed her eyes almost immediately as her tail curled around her like it had a mind of its own. Offering small comfort in a dreary grey world. 

What was she to do? Never receiving anything close to comradely association, she wondered if anyone would even notice if she didn't go back tonight. Maybe they would...someone....

Her mind went back to Thanatos, the only wolf to be kind to her and she missed him. He was the closest thing to a friend she had and they only spent minutes together.

She should be used to loneliness, frankly it didn't bother her most of the time but today it did.

With those melancholy thoughts, she dozed off. Dreamless sleep interrupted by the uneasy manner in which she fell asleep causing her to wake up often and look around. Scared a pack member would scold her for some unknown offense. 

Somewhere in that half sleep state she resolved to no longer pout about her lot in life....how many times has she said that? But she wasn't improving anything by being constantly down cast.

Just another pretty face hiding numerous turmoils.....

Black edged ears perked at an unfamiliar noise, followed closely by mint green eyes that started to scan the area. A bird flew over her, busy with whatever birds occupy themselves with. Deciding it was thing to be alarmed about, she let her lids fall over her eyes once more.

Kayi had a thing for nature--and it was something that had become a part of her. Only in nature she could find her mother--still alive, still breathing--in the vastness and beauty of the wilderness. Her mother, Inaya, had a thing for herbs and nature and it had been something that Kayi had inherited from her. And now, no longer will Kayi hear her soft words teaching her what plants can be used for healing purposes and which plants cannot. No longer can she listen to her calm voice that made her realize how much she loved her. Kayi was very close to her mother, and she could never deny it--and above all things, she missed her family terribly. Every day, her heart ached as she felt an enormous abyss that never seemed to fill up. Her brothers, her parents... everything in her life was ripped away from her, and she hated life because of it. She had become a shadow of her mother--Inaya's depression, anxiety and fear of everything had invaded her own mind mind, but this time there wasn't a Kismet to help her get out of her depression. Kayi was alone. 

Or so she thought. 

Walking in a trance, Kayi had no idea what she was doing. She ended up in this beautiful but infamous island named Ina'mos, and she recently found out that the pack borders extended beyond that paradise. She had heard of Vor'asa, and she decided to investigate. As she walked, a deep silence took over Kayi's mind. There were no memories, no voices, just deep contemplation and concentration. As her legs dragged her accross the varied terrain, her mind was elsewhere. After ten minutes, she began to feel her own heartbeat, the grass beneath her feet, the wind rushing throughout her body, hitting against her ears; she could feel the smells of the flowers that were surrounding her, the distant crashing of the waves as she approached the cove... everything became crystal clear, and tangible, as she walked. She had no idea why she was doing this, but she was sure that she needed it.

She began to try and think positively for once. What if she ended up okay? What if joining this pack was a good choice after all? What if she ends up being useful to the pack? What if she conquered all of her fears? A small smile began to appear on her pink lips, and a small tear formed in her eyes. Her nice thoughts were interrupted when the cloud that covered the sun for a while removed itself, making the sun give away all of its powerful rays. Kayi squinted her eyes, seeing everything uncomfortably bright; she moved quickly under the shades of the trees and kept walking. As she approached the cove, the sound of the roaring ocean invaded her senses as she stood in front of the view. The waves crashed against the cove opening, sounding majestic but beautiful at the same time. But her thoughts got interrupted when she saw a figure in the distance--a white, snowy female slept soundly, her white fur moving softly with the wind.

She seemed vulnerable like she was; and for some reason, she seemed peaceful. Kayi walked up to her, sniffing the air first to make sure that she was from Kairos. After confirming that she was indeed a pack member, she got closer and sat down in front of her. Then, laying down, she looked at the female in soft admiration. Kayi remembered that she had seen her in the hunt, and that her name was Tala. She seemed nice, so Kayi decided to wait for her to wake up, not wanting to disturb her sleep. Laying her delicate head on top of her front legs, she waited for her to open her eyes...

She started to relax in the quiet  but she still wasn't completely at ease. Something had to be done but she wasn't sure what or how to even go about finding it out. 

The dozing femme let her eyes flicker under her lids as a dream started to form in her mind. She could see herself in the pack, each presenting their trophies to the large behemoth which was their alpha. Tala looked at her feet and saw she had nothing to offer. Timidly she walked up to Goliath, low to the ground in submission and tail tucked under. 

She he could see his eyes darken in disapproval and scowl cross his face when he saw she brought nothing. His teeth starting to bear themselves as a growl of anger erupted from his chest. She wanted to explain she simply found nothing with the winter driving most of the prey away, but no voice escaped her throat even as her mouth opened.

A massive paw plummeted towards her, growing even bigger, blocking outtake sun as it descended to crush her. 

The masked girl jumped as she awoke and found herself face to face with another wolf. Wide eyed as her frightened senses took a moment or two in order to realize the wolf was not her Alpha but the pretty fellow huntress.

Not wishing to show her fear, Tala breathed in deeply as her thoughts slowed enough to remember the girls name was Kayi. Mint green orbs met the brilliant pink ones of the fair albino, "Hello." A simple greeting but one she knew no one would find fault with. Since she didn't know her well, Tala wasn't entirely sure of Kayi's real disposition. However, the fact that she let her sleep with the patience to stay however long until she woke up was in Kayi's favor.

Besides, Tala couldn't imagine someone as pretty as Kayi could be anything but sweet.

A short amount of time had passed, and the two snowy females were still, the wind moving quietly around them. Kayi was quiet, and she had already felt the waves of slumber hit her slowly, but she did not want to fall asleep. She wanted to speak to Tala and get to know her better--she felt the need of having a friend in this place. She knew that maybe sticking with others that were similar to her would prove to be easier, and less scarier than being with the giants that dominated Kairos, but she did not know still--sometimes the prettiest of faces could be deceiving. But she couldn't think like that about Tala, though--there was so much innocence in her eyes that it was clear that she was a pure soul. Yawning and stretching silently, she placed her head once more on top of her legs and waited for Tala's awakening.

Kayi observed quietly. Her eyes were semi-closed, but she managed to keep them open to watch as the white-coated angel slept soundly, her chest moving up and down. As Kayi watched, she began to see signs of distress. Tilting her head a little bit, worried about her, Kayi lifted her head and locked her eyes and attention on her. The white wolf shot her pale green eyes open, clearly scared for some odd reason; Kayi frowned, showing pure concern for her well being. However, just when Kayi was about to ask Tala if she was alright, the wolf seemed to calm down and greeted her with a kind hello. Kayi smiled, and her tail wagged slowly in response. "Hello," she said, smiling softly, "did you sleep well?" she asked, smiling softly at the other female. Kayi knew that this female was nice, so she didn't feel scared for once in her life about another living being. Smiling, she waited for her reply.

The sweet words that danced from Kayi's mouth made Tala relax odd since she wasn't sure she knew how to anymore.  Nodding her answer to the simple question, the minty eyes looked over her once again. The pretty albino seemed at ease even thumping her tail happily. 

She didn't seem to fit the Kairos theme, such a kind wolf in a rather dark pack. But perhaps this was a ray of sunshine for Tala. If she could befriend her...maybe....Tala's fear may be able to be controlled more. And in return she could give Kayi good companionship and perhaps fill a void, assuming one existed. 

Tala decided then she would work on herself to present a suitable companion for the pretty girl. 

"Have you been waiting long?" A quiet voice, one that wasn't used to conversation by any means. Tala loved silence, it was her safe place. But what sort of friend would be quiet all the time?

Surely out of her comfort zone, which honestly was not hard to do, the muzzled female tried her best to  work the kinks out of her nearly non existent conversational skills.

Tala's body had visibly relaxed since she had woken up, her pale emerald eyes glistening against the soft daylight that sometimes made everything so difficult to see for Kayi; yet, she couldn't get enough. A soft smile appeared on Kayi's pale pink lips as she heard the other speak; like always, her voice was delicate and soft, reminding her much of her mother's. She seemed so nice, so delicate and perfect to her... Tala asked if she had been waiting long. Shaking her head side to side softly, Kayi opened her maw to speak. "I haven't," she said, "but if I had to wait, I wouldn't mind…" She made a short pause, followed by a statement she had been formulating in her head ever since she laid eyes upon the grey-muzzled female. Taking a deep breath, words began to flow from her mouth with a hint of shyness and hesitation, mixed with tender hope for approval. "Pardon my… bluntness when I say this, but… You seem nice, Tala. Out of all the wolves in Kairos, you seem like you are the nicest here. I hope you don't mind if… I hang out around you often," she stopped talking for a few seconds before adding, "I don't get scared when I'm with you." 

Coral pink eyes looked at the other femme, but they closed often at the sun's rays. Her body was relaxed--the pair stood out from the green scenery like two ghosts in the middle of the day, but she didn't care. She was safe here, and so was Tala. But… how did someone as nice as Tala end up here, out of all places? Kayi herself had a valid reason… but why was Tala here? A question began to bubble up in her mind, and she decided she just had to ask. She had a strong desire to get to know Tala better, something about the older female reminded her of the soft and caring nature of her mother. "Why did you join Kairos?" she spoke quietly, her voice filled with curiosity and wonder. Hoping she hadn't said anything out of place, Kayi locked her attention fully on her. She really wanted to call this pretty female her best friend some day, or even sister… but only time would tell. For now, all she could do was wait.

Encouraged by the sweet smile that graced Kayi's light features, Tala let one of her own ghost over her face. Such a sweet girl for sure... 

It was quickly replaced by surprise at the albinos next string of words. Green eyes widened slightly as she heard the supplication of friendship. They were so lovely to hear, ones never before to reach her ears. She could scarcely believe it at first. A trick perhaps? No. Not from one so sweet mannered. 

"Kayi...I..." Shyness threatened to overtake her voice, but Tala fought through it. She desperately wanted friendship and here it was offered to her. "Of course I wouldn't mind your company. I would be honored to call you a friend. I just never had one before."  Honesty would be best, she decided. But she didn't think Kayi would hold it against her.

Her next question was a bit harder to answer. She didn't want to ruin the joy of having a companion with the sad tale of her abuse and ridicule all her life. "I was offered protection, assuming I found favor with Goliath." She shuddered at mentioning his name, it brought back many memories. Scary ones.....

" It isn't exactly what I had pictured." She concluded probably the most lengthy speech she ever had in her life. Even with the touched of sadness with the last part of her words, she was still over the moon at having someone to talk to. "How did a pretty one like you get here? I mean, it seems a little harsh for you to join up." 

The ever whisper quiet voice reached out the fluffy white girl placed across from her. Was she being to snoopy? No. Kayi asked, so that meant she could in return......right? Oh the obstacle course of social interchanges were still such a mystery. Observation proved to only be helpful to such an  extent but words, even though difficult to form, proved more valuable.

Tala's eyes widened, making Kayi skip a heart beat. Had she said something wrong? Had she been too impulsive? Kayi made a soft, almost inaudible whimper as she saw how Tala had been taken aback by her comment. Tala's soft voice broke through the silence; Kayi's ears perked up to let Tala know she was being fully attentive. "Kayi...I…" Kayi's ears drew back for a second when she heard the other's hesitation. But the ebony-muzzled female spoke once more. "Of course I wouldn't mind your company. I would be honored to call you a friend. I just never had one before." Kayi smiled, every worry washed away from her psyche--her tail began to wag as a sign of her happiness. "Thank you, Tala! I've never had a friend before. Only my family, so…" Her voice trailed off as she remembered her family's faces for a brief second. Her stomach began to feel sick, and she could feel a knot in her throat as tears threatened to pour from her coral eyes. Looking away for a moment, Kayi controlled her breathing slowly, forcing herself not to cry. Once the other spoke again, she focused her entire strength on Tala, trying to forget the face of her siblings and parents that were bombarding her thoughts.

"It isn't exactly what I had pictured." Tala spoke, talking about Kairos. She agreed completely and nodded softly--Kairos was the pack that she did not want to be a part of at first, but the thought was quickly overrun by the fact that she absolutely needed it. Being surrounded by giants made her feel safe, but their size alone made it sometimes difficult to forget about one of her biggest fears--bears. These gargantuan wolves looked so similar to those vile demons in size and strength. So much, in fact, that the albino found herself crying at nights, sleeping in the farthest corner of the den, seeing in her dreams how these giants turned into enormous bears and teared her to pieces. She always found herself waking up in the middle of the night, her breath broken and rapid--praying to the stars to help her in her much needed journey to be victorious in the midst of the storm.

Regaining her thoughts and concentrating on Tala, perking up her ears as the beauty in front of her spoke. "How did a pretty one like you get here? I mean, it seems a little harsh for you to join up." Kayi nodded, her eyes drifted to the floor for a few seconds. She had never told anyone her story, and if she wanted to get better, she truly had to begin. She had to tell someone about her past, to at least get this horrible feeling off her chest. That way, she wouldn't feel so alone, because someone understood her struggles. Smiling softly, she sighed. "Well, I joined in an act of desperation, truly," she began, her words sounding soft and almost withdrawn. "You see," she continued, "I… I don't really speak of this to anyone, but since you seem like a trustworthy wolf, I'll… I'll tell you." Taking a deep breath, she began to speak about her past, trying to not cry in the process. "I was born into a happy family. My… my mom's name was Inaya, and my father's name was Kismet. I had beautiful siblings as well--Kamikaze, Malachi and Adeline. Well… one day…" she drifted off, fighting the nauseating feelings that recounting her story brought to her. "…my family was taken from me. A… a bear." She stopped, looking up to the sky and sighing, trying to hold back the tears.

"I came here to be strong. And to be able to overcome my biggest fears. I howled to see Goliath, since a few wolves I found on my way told me this was a land of giants… and even if it was a terrifying day, I joined and... now… I'm here. So… that's why I'm happy I found someone like me." A few tears had escaped from her eyes already, sliding down and staining her perfect white fur, but a soft smile had already crept in her maw when she looked at Tala's pale green eyes. "Please, don't tell anyone." She said softly, still looking at the older wolf that was resting in front of her.

A sympathetic look clouded her eyes as she saw Kayi struggle with some unknown trial. She wanted to help fix it but had no idea what was even wrong. But whatever it was, She thought Kayi had a strength she may not have given herself credit for. 

But then her silent questions were answered as her snowy companion revealed part of her past. She listened intently, both touched by the fact Kayi trusted her to know her tragedy and frightened that one so young had to endure it.

She knew the weight of secrets, some were growing within her right now and would one day be known to the world. But she couldn't think of that now as she was far to wrapped up with Kayi to remember it. Branding her family names into her mind and the horrible death that Kayi obviously watched her family succumb to.

"I promise your secret is safe with me. Never shall I breathe a word to anyone." She vowed fervently and looked at her with a caring expression. In a desire to comfort her, Tala stayed on her stomach and crawled forward a little to stretch her nose out and touch Kayi's cheek. This would be the first time she ever touched someone of out love since she fled her pack, where the pups were her only company until they were taken away and turned against her.

"It's brave to open up like that, dear." A ghost of a smile crossed her features as her eyes shone with pride in the younger girl. Recent friends t she was already incredibly find of her and felt the pull she had when she first saw her at the hunting gathering grow even stronger. This would be her sister for all intensive purposes until such a day Kayi would wish it over if that ever happened. 

"I'm sure you're parents would be proud that you try to improve yourself. It's easy to wallow in the pain and never move from that state, essentially wither away. You are strong for putting things in motion to grow and find out more about yourself." Another long speech but words seemed to come easier around Kayi. Her tone remained ever the same of a quiet breeze dancing over a peaceful stream.

She made sure to not mention Goliaths part in Kayi's plan. That would make her anxiety grow much like her belly would no doubt be doing soon. Tala had no real strength to give Kayi except love and support, but maybe that would be enough for now until they both learned more.

Kayi felt relieved when she heard the sweet Tala tell her that her secret was safe with her. A soft sigh of relief exited Kayi's lungs, and her coral ey.es blinked softly as she observed the pretty fe.male next to her. Her e.ars perked when she heard the other speak, telling her how brave she was to open up like that. Kayi's ey.es watered, filling up with tears. No one had ever called her brave before--she had grown up thinking otherwise because she had ran away from her family, leaving them behind to perish at the claws of the demon. Kayi lowered her hea.d in gratitude at Tala's comment, and raised her hea.d once more. "I'm sure you're parents would be proud that you try to improve yourself. It's easy to wallow in the pain and never move from that state, essentially wither away. You are strong for putting things in motion to grow and find out more about yourself." 

Kayi looked at her white pa.ws, blinking softly as the tears poured from her ey.es. "Thank you," she said, looking at Tala tenderly, "I… I am just trying to recover. You're already helping." Kayi smiled, her t.ail wagging faintly as a show of gratefulness. Standing up on all fours, Kayi looked at the sky and then back at Tala. "Do you want to head back? It's… not a good idea to be alone for so long out here… but, I don't know," she said, not wanting to be alone for too long. Two fe.males alone in this crazy island was not a good idea, so she thought they could go back. Waiting for the other's response, she stood quietly, not making any move before Tala made the decision.

The tears in Kayi's eyes made Tala feel both happy and sad, how that was even possible, she wasn't sure. But she did know they came to Kairos to grow, become part of something. Circumstances weren't perfect but together they could achieve their goals. She was certain of it!

Thinking On Kayi's proposal, Tala looked around a little before she rose from the ground. "Yes I've seen cougars around here before. While I don't mind hunting them in a group, it's certainly no fun being chased by one." Mentally she added that Thanatos would most likely not be around to rescue her this time.

Getting to her feet, she looked over at Kayi with a smile. "Let's go and see if we find anything interesting on the way back." She was still overjoyed that Kayi and herself had this time to bond and the fact the little snow angel said she already had helped her was a gift in itself. Tala promised to do what she could for Kayi and she intended to see that promise through thick and thin. After all, isn't that what families were supposed to do?

Stepping out into the wilderness once again, Tala walked with purpose, with confidence, for the first time in her life. She no longer was alone. Of course she was still the same shy, quiet girl as ever but she now knew she could open up and smile with Kayi and it would be ok. Since Kayi told her precious secrets then Tala only thought it to be fair to open up and express her own. And one day soon she would.
