History: Vauhnar was born over two years ago within a small wolf pack that resided on the very edges of a territory several thousand miles from where he is today, having gone through a rough birth due to issues with his mother’s health he was born as a young and malnourished pup that wasn’t given his first meal until several days after birth. The first few weeks after his birth proved quite difficult for his entire pack as a rather potent illness spread through the pack and within only a few days a good portion of their numbers had been dwindled to only a few that were able to perform any basic tasks. Luckily shielded from contamination the young male ended up losing all but one of his siblings to the harsh conditions that plagued his pack.
As the weeks went on and the young pup began to grow into a stronger and more independent adolescent he was given his first glimpse at death when his father came home with an injury inflicted by something that he had never seen before, within only a few hours he was dead and Vauhnar was left with the permanent memory of his father’s slow demise. Considering the age at which this happened he didn’t understand it at first and seemed almost confused by the way that stimulation went unanswered and though it took time he came to understand what had happened and came to accept the death of his father. However this changed him in a way no one would have expected as he began to look at death far differently than many would have.
As his first few months went by and he found himself old enough to tag along on hunts he was allowed his first glimpse at what wolves did for a good portion of their life, he was able to watch the many failed attempts at catching prey before that last attempted proved fruitful and provided enough food for the pack. He was given another glimpse of death and his young mind was left pondering what this truly meant for a creature, unfortunately he didn’t have to wait long before he was given a more up close and personal example of such an ending.
Several weeks after his very first hunt he was given a close glimpse of the illness that had killed so many of the pack so many months ago, the winter had come once again and with it this potent illness was spread from the unaware pup to his mother whom had been weakened due to a recent injury sustained during an unsuccessful hunt. He was allowed the opportunity to watch as his mother dwindled away for hours and finally succumbing to the sickness perishing before his eyes and leaving the young male without any parents and with his sister as his only remaining sibling. With the pack’s numbers down to critical numbers and the male’s age having reached a year and a half he decided to depart from the pack after a series of attacks had begun within the boundaries of their domain.
Within the first few months of his time spent as a loner he was forced to kill on several occasions and on each occasion his mind seemed to process the information differently than one might expect, he didn’t enjoy death however he was fascinated by it and he found himself constantly analyzing every bit of the environment that surrounded him. The male had become quite acute with his senses and had gained the ability to think with a bit more intelligence than would have been expected from such a young wolf and yet with such insight came a few mental issues that led him to having a few bad encounters with fellow wolves.
On a return trip from one of his favorite hunting spots he ran into a young male wolf who seemed to be starving, the two of them were given an encounter that didn’t occur all that often and considering his usual interactions with wolves the young male didn’t seem to understand how to handle such a situation. He approached the wolf without any delay, ignored the snarling and figured it was a playful gesture such as the ones that he had seen from his siblings however after he came too close he was given a harsh bite upon his snout leaving a scar that still remains to this day. He was left stunned by the action for several moments before he was able to pull himself back and find himself in a defensive position against this fellow wolf, it seemed that the starving male wasn’t going to back down and Vauhnar was left to deal with such a threat to his territory.
The fight only lasted several minutes and yet in that time he was given a scar that became a permanent feature upon his face and given the unfortunate mental scar that left him quite timid and careful around wolves, he didn’t trust easily after this, and he tried to ignore the scent of other wolves rather than approaching them as he wished to avoid any confrontation. His timid behavior however led to another problem as he found himself constantly alone and unable to find any groups that would accept his strange behavior and this led him to wandering around the lands in search of somewhere to call home and perhaps a new family that would be willing to adopt him.
He spent the next half year searching for somewhere that he could finally rest and somewhere that would provide a good amount of hunting grounds to allow the male to flourish within his new environment. Having been a loner for most of his life he had learned to live off the land and yet he hadn’t interacted very much with fellow wolves which left him with a slight disability when it came to dealing with pack disputes or even dealing with other predators that attempted to take what he had killed. He found himself developing a very defensive and very careful attitude towards life as he did his best to avoid the encounters that would pose any danger, this worked for quite some time as he was able to co-exist with the other predators that inhabited the area around his den.
After he had stayed within his new home for several months he smelt the scent of something that was familiar, he smelt the scent of another wolf and believing that perhaps he was given another chance to truly adopt to the possibility of a pack life he had made his way out of his den and towards the source of the scent. When he arrived he found that there was only a small jar that was opened just enough to allow that potent scent to flow out into the open air, what seemed to be inside was the urine recently collected from a canine species and clearly used as a trap by a rather intelligent creature. Having not made the connection he heard the sound of twigs breaking and instead of running off he lifted his head and looked in the direction that the sound came from believing that there was possibly another creature nearby, another wolf possibly…
Instead the male was greeted by something that he had never seen before, he heard the sound of a whooshing of air right before something stabbed into his side causing him to tense and before he even realized what was going on he had fallen to the ground and was left with a blurry image of a tall-standing figure that was quickly approaching his location. His vision faded only moments later and by the time he awoke he found himself in a situation that he had never been placed in before and had never even heard of. He found himself in a metal cage in a location that seemed completely alien to him, he looked around within the strange confines of this newfound ‘home’ and instantly he felt that deep down timid attitude beginning to return.
He spent the next several hours pressed as far back from the entrance to that cage as he possibly could and as that creature approached he growled and nipped at the bars only to be given a sudden stab against his side and the rush of that potent chemical that left him suddenly unable to stand… He looked up at that creature seeing that look on its face right before he passed out, by the time he woke up again he had been moved yet again and this time he was moving in a rather strange pattern that seemed to indicate a method of travel that he certainly wasn’t used to. He found himself rocking back and forth on a small boat that seemed to be moving through the waters on course for a location that had been designed to ‘rehabilitate’ wolves and yet he would never arrive.
Instead he was greeted with the sound of hurricane like winds, waves that tossed the boat around like a toy, and a situation that left the wolf swinging from side to side in a situation that once again was far from his comfort zone. Conveniently enough the boat was suddenly toppled by a rather large wave just off the beaches of a nearby island that had been unknown and uncharted to the creatures that now had him in their custody. This wasn’t aware to the wolf and instead the only thing he felt was the sudden feeling of his head smashing against the side of the crate he was resting within and the sudden shock of fear going through his mind as he realized that he had no control over the situation.
His eyes darted left and right as he looked for any source of escape and before he had the chance to do anything there was a sickening crunching and snapping sound of wood and metal suddenly shearing against each other before the boat snapped and began to take on water. The sound of the crew evacuating could be heard and yet there wasn’t any attempt at getting to the wolf, instead as the boat suddenly shook to the left the crate was shoved off the side of the boat and luckily for him there was enough air that it remained buoyant allowing it to begin to float upon the water even within the rather intense waves that now threatened the very lives of the ones who had been transporting him.
A sudden wave shot through his newfound ‘life raft’ and the wolf hadn’t been prepared as his claws clicked against the wood right before he was shoved against the side of the box and hit with such intensity that he once again found himself beginning to lose consciousness, he blanked out only moments later and didn’t awaken for several hours. By the time he finally woke up the male found light being shown across his eyes and the feeling of the sun as it warmed his flesh and left the male with a feeling that was quite welcomed. He finally felt like he had a bit of control over his situation and as he took a quick look from within his confines he found that the crate had been breached upon the side allowing him just enough room to slip free from this container.
It took him only a moment to decide to escape from that container and once he had he turned and looked back at it as the waves began to splash across its side, it seemed that it would soon be swept back out to sea and likely any evidence of a boat having been anywhere near here would have been long since gone within only a few hours. Of course the male didn’t think of this either and instead he looked across the newfound terrain and began to trot across the warm sand in search of somewhere that he could make a new home, somewhere where he could perhaps find a place that he actually belonged.
Personality: Vauhnar is a very intelligent and very observant wolf that constantly analyzes situations far more than his fellow candid’s, due to his rough past he finds himself hard pressed to trust anyone and generally in an actual meeting he’ll act rather timid and withdrawn as he attempts to observe the other’s behavior to figure out if they’re friend or foe. Considering the sheer amount of trauma and mental damage he has suffered through his life he can sometimes act a bit different, a bit out of place when he attempts to interact with other wolves or even just partake in a conversation.
Even though he has had such a hard past he tries to keep his head up high and he still believes that he has the ability to make a difference, and he still believes that perhaps a pack will actually accept him if he is able to offer something… some service, some little tribute that may make his being there worthwhile. Even though he hasn’t been around wolves for very much of his life he truly does want friends and he truly does want to become someone that others can rely upon and yet his past acts as a constant boundary that keeps him hidden just out of sight even when he is given a chance to actually outstretch himself a little and get to know someone else. He has been shaped by his experiences during youth and he has become a survivor that has been able to take advantage of any situation that may present its self, able to look beyond the lines and make sense of things that would have seemed like a jumble to many of his brethren. He has managed to survive several illnesses and several situations which may have proven life threatening to other wolves, though he isn’t the bulkiest or strongest wolf that there is he relies upon his cunning to make up for some of his physical lacking and the mental barrier that he has when it comes to creating an understanding between himself and other canines.
Vauhnar has developed a very specific and selective attitude; he looks at death far differently than others and finds it to be far less severe than some take it as. He also has a lack of understanding when it comes to pack laws or regulations and he has at times challenged those of higher authority without realizing that he had done anything wrong. Sometimes his thoughts of other canines can almost seem ruthless and heartless and yet deep down inside he wants nothing more than to replace some of what he lost in his childhood, he wants so desperately to find a place to belong and though it may not always work out… he attempts to outstretch a paw in pursuit of such a goal or at least attempts to create the bonds that allow for a much stronger relationship to develop. If anything Vauhnar is mentally injured, he is so damaged by his prior encounters that he has an issue moving forward, he has taken so much hardship in such a short span of time that he can act ruthless and heartless at times without realizing just how severe some things can be and yet at the end of the day he has a heart that is truly looking for something to make it whole again.
