The dens were teeming with life, and with each passing day the sisters of Valyn were birthing their litters. It was high time that they established some sort of hierarchy around here before things got out of hand. As time went past, Valeria was acutely aware that some of the femmes were growing impatient, and that would not sit well with her. There were a variety of skill sets, and a lot of potential within their pack. While they were still small, the young of the pack were the future. Come summer, the younglings would be able to assist with the hunts. For right now, they needed to ensure that everyone was capable of assuming a roll within the daily operations of the pack. And so in a brief moment away from her litter, Valeria strode to the den's opening, stretching her head high as she called out for the pack to gather. Since their formation, Val was certain they had not all convened at once. This would be a pivotal moment in the pack.
The alphess did not have traditional ranks in mind for her family. No, she felt that the ladies of Valyn deserved something with more finesse and strength than traditional gender-defined roles in a pack structure. They were better than those meaningless titles, and she intended to prove that. It was over the last few days that the black and gold alphess's mind truly started to crank out ideas. She fully intended to keep her sister by her side to keep order, but the others were pretty much on a level field. Sure, there had to be some leaders and some followers. But Val had no intention of making any of her pack mates feel inferior. There were no invaluable females around here. They were important each in their own right. Perhaps taking ownership of a role would move them to see their own self worth.
As Valeria watched her litter snooze off in the corner, she knew this was the ideal time to sort out business. If they could get this all taken care of before the young woke up, they might have a chance to get things ironed out. In fact, Val was fairly confident even if they did wake up, Zofia would be more than happy to entertain her nieces and nephews. While she was mildly disappointed that more femmes were not born into the pack, the ire she felt toward all males dwindled significantly at the first sign of her sons. Valhalla and Leviathan were no threat to them. They would be raised within Valyn, and they would develop a respect for females that most lone males and males within the packs of Anikira did not have. Perhaps they would prove invaluable. After all, this year they were lucky not to have been too much at risk. With so many pregnant members of the pack, it was a miracle that they were not only able to feed all their young, but that they were not attacked in their weakened state.
As much as Valeria hated to admit it, there was a need for some males around the pack. If it were only for the protection of her family, she recognized that a fully female pack was highly improbable. However, that did not mean they were going to be in charge around here. The females held the power, and birthright within the pack or not, that would be the way it remained as she refused to back off from her ideals. She saw what her father and brother had become. She would not allow her sons or the sons of her sisters to become that way. They were better than that state of mind. They would not be common mongrels.
