The sun was beating down heavily upon Nyjoro Hills. It was the very middle of the day. The heat of the sun baked the short grass that ran over the numerous hills. They varied greatly in size: some were enormous, and some could barely be called 'mounds'. A thin river wove around these hills in a snakey pattern. Steely grey and creamy tan fur built a creature moving upstream. She stood at only thirty-two inches of height, weighing a mere seventy-eight pounds. Her body type suggested the Eastern Timber species of wolf, yet her eyes suggested quite a different breed. It was quite the mystery, and yet she was the spitting image of her father: a wolf whom she had never once met in her life. The she-wolf trudged along, pondering her current predicament. How she came to land on this so-called 'Anikira' rather than Madagascar was beyond her. Hadn't she traveled east? But, then again, she had been focused on escape more than direction. Maybe she had accidentally strayed. But how had she strayed quite so far? It was beyond her. However, the she-wolf was ignorant of Anikira's geographic location in respect to Africa. Maybe it was simply a side-island of Madagascar. Maybe if she crossed the island, and exited it, she could swim to the mainland. Anything to put as much distance between herself and Baremus--her alpha. She couldn't stand even the thought of him. Her left ear still stung from his attack three days previous. It was still sticky with dried blood. She hadn't even had a chance to examine the shredded ear. But she tried to ignore it, and focus on her surroundings.
After another hour or so of her slow pace, the river began to open up. Curiously, the female quickened her pace until she saw the mouth of a lake. She slowed once more, taking in the sights with her pale eyes. 'How interesting...' What would she find next? A desert on the other side of the island? A swamp? What was with this weird terrain? It was so different. Every few miles spanned a new kind of terrain. When she had first arrived, she had glanced a massive meadow to her right, and Nyjoro Hills to her left: the river that she had followed split the two. And now a lake? Pale eyes scanned the territory around her. In the distance, she could see the hills dieing away to another type of terrain, currently unbeknownst to herself. Quietly, she slowly approached the lake's edge. She looked over the edge into the clear water, and curled her lip back at her own reflection. 'That bastard. Look what he's done to my beautiful ear!' A quiet snarl escaped her. After a minute, her mouth resumed a faint grimace, as she continued to stare down at her reflection. How was she to gather attention now?
'Not that there's anyone here to give it.'
