There was something about the tall trees of the world that had Saphira in spirits as high as the highest reaching branches. The young wolf tilted up her head as her paws carried her in a trot towards the sand, peeking at the slices of blue sky through the many tangling branches. The sun was high in the sky this afternoon, and Saphira didn't think it possible that she could be in a better mood. It was a glorious day, and she had it all to herself! Well, wait, now was that good or bad? She was alone, that was bad. But she was able to do whatever she wanted without any interruptions, and that was good. Which would win out, she wondered as she stumbled over one of the more exposed roots, a surprised yelp escaping her lips as she flopped onto her chest, her jaw hitting the ground. "Owie!" Her yellow eye peeked open as she stared ahead of her, the beach within sight. Slowly gathering her feet, the wolf stood straight and took careful steps away from the tangling roots, her tail flicking as she frowned down at the dark colored roots, covered in cool, dark dirt and mud. She kicked at the enemy root with her back right paw and started down towards the beach. Trees, thinking just because they were taller and got to make a fool of her! It was official. She was glad she was alone, at least for right now.
With a soft hum, trying to forget the assault, the young female looked down at the sand as her paws sunk into the cool grains, leaving an impression of her four toes as she stepped ever closer to the water. Her nose twitched as she took in the refreshing scent, watching fish rush through the waters. An otter popped its head above the water, then ducked back down. Otter wasn't a bad meal, but the little weasels had the upper hand in the water. Yet... Saphira's eyes checked out the left, then the right. A smirk tugged at her lips and she took a few purposeful steps back. "Bonzai!" She shouted as she lurched forward, leaping from the edge of the beach, and disappearing under the water with a large and wide splash of crystal-clear water. Under the water, the wolf's eyes peeked open and her head turned round and round, taking in the sights. She moved her body so she was upside-down as she watched the otters swim closer, inspecting the odd predator that had just barged in. Saphira giggled to herself, her legs moving quickly and roughly as she turned herself up-right and swam herself to the surface, her head rupturing the calm surface of water as her jaws parted to take in breath. Like a puppy, she slapped the water with her paws and giggled.
About fifteen minutes of play passed before Saphira's water-soaked body reached land, and she shook herself dry with a playful laugh. "What a swim!" She hopped forward, turning to look out at the otters as they watched her, surfacing and diving as they took their turns to inspect what they surely thought was a crazy wolf. "Hi fellas! Bye, see you later!" As a snack. Her stomach rumbled, reminding her she hadn't eaten in a day or so. She shook her head, then each leg in a last attempt to dry herself, then took careful steps towards the dirt and tree roots. She wouldn't be tripped, not this time! Humming light-heartedly, Saphira found a thin tree that she dubbed safe and sat beside it, licking her toes. A winter swim was always surprisingly refreshing, even if people thought her crazy for not waiting to swim until summer. Her body, her life, her rules! She hummed happily as she cleaned herself.
