Word Count: 746. Tagging: @rayne Notes: Look up foxes hunting if you want to see how she pounced. So cute. lol | ? A short journey across a space of empty land and Lisa found herself sitting under a rock in the mess of boulders in Xisyn. May only saw rocks, but the black-maned female saw much more than just a sinkhole disaster zone. The rocks were tightly packed, leaving only tiny holes for snakes or bunnies to curl up. But there were one or two rocks that rose above the overs, tall and leaning. Three rocks in particular were why she'd come here. It made a shallow cavern just enough to fir in her body. The long-legged creature curled up, her small black and red-spotted paws sticking out, but the rest of her was hiding safely in the shade of these collected rocks, rocks that also gathered heat as the day went on. The surprise fall of snow a day or two prior had shaken Lisa to her core, her fur dried now after the snow had melted and now went away. But still she felt cold, relying on the heat these rocks had soaked up to warm her for her next journey. She had promised to meet Rayne at the tree, and it wasn't that much of a walk away even those these rocks would make it seem so, but she needed a bit more rest before she got up again. An hour or so passed before sun-yellow eyes fluttered open, peeking out at the shadowed rocks beyond her little cavern. The sun was high in the blue sky, casting shadows into every crevice, and bestowing its heat to the rocks so they could greedily drink it in. A yawn escaped her throat, her jaws opening wide to take in a breath as she released it in a soft "yip" of sound as she let it out, the area of stones quiet aside from her own noises. Her legs bent in, stretched out long, then bent at the knee once more to help her get to her paws. She shook her head and her ears flicked to attention. A new day, time by now to visit Rayne. The tree in question was only an hour or so of a walk, but she wondered if there was any chance she could bring him in. She rarely made her voice audible past conversation, her "howl" was something few wolves heard, much less were able to understand. Would Rayne even recognize it was her? Food, food was good! The red-pelted female turned her head, her oval ears listening for the sounds of prey. Snakes often slithered here, or lizards, and possibly now and then a traveling rabbit. She leapt from the cover of her make-shift den onto a rock that was taller, over-looking the rest of the demolished pit. She listened carefully, closing her eyes and letting her nose and ears guide her. To the left, a coney. A rabbit began to peek out of its hidey-hole, looking around. Lisa was still as a statute even as her eyes opened slowly, and she saw the critter jump onto a rock that had moss growing on it. It nibbled away. and Lisa made her move. She pulled her forelegs up, and her head pointed downward like a leaping fox as her teeth came down on the white rabbit, crushing it in her jaws. The little thing let out a squeak, but it was quickly put out of its misery as Lisa snapped it's neck. She lied it down and looked towards where the rocks turned to patchy grass. He had mentioned food, hadn't he? Picking up the medium-sized catch, she bounced across the rocks like she was a rabbit herself and landed o the patchy grasses beyond this place. The dirt was cooler to the touch than the sun-soaking rocks, but it was a nice relief, really. The tree was within sight as she took just a few steps, and she smiled around the rabbit's back as she held it side-ways in her mouth. As she felt the roots try to catch at her paws, she dropped the rabit and sat down, looking around curiously for Rayne. Maybe she should announce herself. "Fair Rayne, is it thyself, Lisa." She offered a smile to the air around her. "I return as promised." She called out just loud enough to be heard. It was his idea, so she was sure he'd be on his way here. |
