She should not have left her mother's side. She should not have skirted the den where her siblings were playing in order to avoid them at all costs. She should have been a good little puppy and stayed where it was safe. But that was boring. It was always boring at home. Her siblings were either too big to play with her, or too stuck up and full of themselves to be worth her time. Her mother, similar to her sister in so many ways, was even more of a waste of space now. It had not exactly been easy to sneak out of Valyn territory, but now that she found herself exploring on her own, she also felt her muscles relax as her eyes scanned the unknown territory before her. Then again, she had come this direction before. When she was younger, far too small and helpless to wander this far alone, her mother had brought her and her siblings to the Geysers on a sort of day trip. There had been a male wolf there as well, but right now the little pup was finding herself impressed with her own memory as she made her way straight to the spewing structures.
She did not know why she chose this place, maybe because it was at least somewhat familiar, but it was suitable enough for her day away from her miserable little family. With no father to speak of, the pup had acted out from the very beginning, but she honestly could not give her absentee sire all of the credit for that. She simply could not help herself. If Silver had not been so busy thinking she was the queen of the world, Mint probably would have practiced her manipulations on her. Instead, she seemed to avoid her larger sister at all costs. Play-fighting was almost a waste of time, unless she could get her sharp puppy teeth on something that she could seriously injure, that is. She knew she would eventually have to return home, for there was little hope of her actually being able to hunt for herself out here at her age. But, exploring would not hurt, right? As long as she stayed out in the open and kept a look out for bears, she figured that she would be fine.
It took her forever to reach the geysers, but when they finally came into view, she slowed herself down even further and decided to actually enjoy her time away from the other females of Valyn. She truly disliked the pack. To be completely honest, she was simply just waiting until she was old enough to turn her back on her family and hopefully never see them again. But before night were to fall, she knew she would have to return to them, as much as she hated the thought. So far, though, it was only early afternoon, so she had plenty of time before she would have to turn around and return to Valyn. Until then, she decided she would wander about the geysers, hoping to find something of at least a little interest that would give her something better to do than waste her life away with her family.
