The cold liquid of the stagnant pool felt extremely good on the legs of the dark creature who waded into it, seeking relief from the sun. Charcoal gray fur nearly baked in the sun, causing its owner to pant relentlessly in an effort to cool himself. "Damn fur. Should just rub it off on a rock," the wolf growled, flicking his ears back in frustration for only a moment before they flew upright again, doing their own good in releasing heat. An exasperated sigh was followed by the splash of water as Auron fell in on his stomach, lying sternally with his legs stretched out in four different ways to maximize the amount of his body that entered the water.
While one third of his was still dry, the combination of water and mud that he now basked in calmed the angry male, easing his fury away as quickly as it had come. Auron was not one to stay unhappy for long, and it would only be a matter of time before his smile returned. Until then, however, his current mood would remain neutral bordering on annoyed, which his grey eyes conveyed whilst they were open. He closed them now, and with a grunt rolled his body in a full circle without moving far from the middle of the tiny pool, immersing his head and covering his back with water and mud so that he would feel no more heat until it dried.
Satisfied for the moment, Auron laid carefully on one side, his well-fed body taking up the entirety of his chosen watering hole. Now that he had rolled around and disturbed the mud, it would no longer be fit to drink--in fact, it likely had not been fit for consumption before then--but the male had sated his thirst just before cooling down, and hopefully he would not be tempted to drink potentially tainted water. It had caused him horrible stomach upset in the past, and he was not eager to go through that pain again.
Yawning widely, the male glanced around the small clearing, just a few steps away from the beautiful red field in which he and Rita had caught his first real meal. Truth be told, Rita had been bait and he had saved her, but she certainly drove him to act and that meant that she was as much the hunter as he. It had been the tiny red she-wolf who had shown Auron the ways of hunting and stealth, surprisingly enough, though he had been skinny enough when they met that she might had been able to take him down had he been unaware, and she less timid.
His adult body now was fully fleshed out, and he was certainly at the top of his strength; it had taken several weeks and much discipline, but the male was no longer afraid of what he might find in the forest, lupine or otherwise, and he had taken to making friends rather than avoiding them. Perhaps a constantly full belly was truly good for the mind; it made friendliness and kindness come much easier, though he hardly had trouble being kind while he was starving. It was simply a catalyst, he thought, a way for him to continue to strive toward that which he knew he needed--a social life, complete with a pack and, perhaps down the line, some sort of family.
