Saphira had been walking for a while over the northern Kinath mountains in search of Nyspoli’s Pool. She liked walking, and she liked this place. It was cool, calm, relaxing… everything she really needed to be able to feel every once in the while. It was such a breath of fresh air from pack life for her. She knew all her stress was self-imposed by her need to constantly be pushing herself harder, but she could not let go of that. She was an idealist and had to strive to see her ideals come to life. Simply dreaming about them would not do.
Still, a short vacation was in order, every now and then. She smiled into her perfect reflection in the still surface of the pool before backing up and getting a running start into the waters. She let out a shout of delight and child-like joy. How she loved having fun. Even while she was pushing herself harder and attending to her duties in the pack, that radiant light of playfulness and joy was always bubbling just beneath the surface, awaiting the opportunity to escape. It was particularly fun when it could be shared with other wolves, whether friends or strangers. She chose to think of “strangers” simply as friends she had not yet met. Life was more fun that way. She could meet others with confidence and a smile, knowing that they were “already-not-yet” friends.
Speaking of friends, she thought back to the last time she had been in the Oriens and the wolves she had made friends with then. She especially remembered Malachi fondly. His more reserved nature was intriguing to her, but she was determined she would pull him out of his shell sooner or later – assuming they were ever to meet again, and she hoped they would.
For now, however, she was just going to enjoy this moment – the sensation of the water lapping at her from all sides, the sound of the ripples she was creating, the feeling of the breeze, the sudden chill when the sun dipped behind a cloud every now and then. It was a beautiful day and deserved to be enjoyed.
