Alright everyone. I've got some ideas here I want to lay out, and I want some feedback! I've recently killed off one of my wolves and decided that want to keep his options open if I choose to bring him back as a ghost. Here on Ani, we don't really have ghostie guidelines, so I've thought some up just to get ideas rolling and see what everyone would be interested in. They are VERY ROUGH and I have not done a whole lot of extra thinking beyond what I have here so I'm OPEN TO AND ACCEPTING SUGGESTIONS! Any idea would be appreciated and wonderful and I thank you for even reading this too!
I apologize for making these into bullet-points, but they are only the beginnings of ideas and I really wanted to get your opinions.
-Each ghost is either benevolent or malevolent as his / her core, though their outer expression can be varying degrees of those inner workings (Wolves can be 'black or white' but most are likely 'gray')
-Each wolf is intangible and translucent
-With practice and time, a ghost wolf can possess living things with a lower intelligence than them, i.e. squirrels and prey animals but not other wolves (though that could be expanded on or up to individual players if they work out a wolf-possession). I also toyed with the idea of them being able to possess plants but only for hiding / shielding purposes.
-Each ghost can choose who can see them, but not necessarily who can hear them speak (I wanted to leave this one up to the players of the live wolves, but it isn't something my heart is set on. It might make sense to reverse it, even).
-Wolves can 'ascend' if / when they accept their fate. It will not be necessary to complete a task or take care of unfinished business, all it takes is a realization--though I imagine it would be very hard to realize you're dead.
I also had an idea for a sort of roaming ghost pack, restless and unable to stay still for long. The main reason for the pack would be to get all of the ghosts together and keep them interactive. I also thought they might, after a time, decide to either help or hinder lone wolves, or pack wolves who wander too far--pranking them, spooking prey, that sort of thing. A pack could also double as a type of support group, if we wanted to go a more friendly route, with older ghosts helping new ones understand their new lot in life.
I know many people here have let go of characters who they still love, or are planning to as I am, but I have not spoken individually to anyone about a ghost pack or even the above outlined ideas, since of course I would like you to know what I think would be interesting and beneficial first. If you would rather PM me and discuss things in private I am okay with that but I also would like as many ideas as possible here on the discussion thread! Depending on what sort of agreements we can come to, I would like to ideally have Auron as the main ghost-pack leader / alpha / what have you as I think his personality is very well-suited for helping other ghosts, and I do plan to bring him back if we can all agree on a good outcome for the pack. I would be very willing to outline a structure, though there would be little point in having a whole set of ranks for a band of ghosts and it may just dissolve into a sort of family with no discernible ranks and no one wolf truly 'above' another. But, as I'm spearheading the discussion, I call dibs on alpha if we decide that we need one because I'm a butt like that. (:
Edit: Zen has lovingly pointed out that giving ghosts the ability to be seen or not automatically is not quite fair to those who pay for their living wolves to see them. So the suggestion was made that, instead of having automatic powers like that, we would put them in the shop as something you can buy. The price would not be outrageous but just a little something to keep things fair. (:
