Maybe this wasn’t exactly the brightest idea Ladonna ever had…
Winter was here. Oh yes. No doubt now. The female had been relaxed within the Othala territory for some time, but as of last night, Ladonna decided it was time to get a move on. She treaded northwards to Tiayr. Hopefully, there, she wouldn’t feel the heavy watch of the local wolf pack. Not that Othala was by any means aggressive, but the paranoid Ladonna very much believed that she had outstayed her welcome. In any case, she felt it best to move on anyway. For a loner, sticking around in one place for too long usually invited trouble. That was one thing she didn’t want.
Getting out of the Oriens meant leaving the way she came… Through the mountain pass. This was the least dangerous path to take; directly south of Tiayr. This pass was a quiet canyon, quite flat, windy, and certainly less life threatening than trying to maneuver through the slippery cliffsides and steep climbs. Last time she tried that, a wrong step on thin ice on a cliff edge lead her tumbling down a rocky slope, landing just the wrong way on her side. The incident didn’t harm Ladonna in any real way, but in case it did in some unnoticeable way, she spent a few days by Nyspoli's Pool just to be sure. That, and the environment was just nice to be in.
With the dropping temperature, no wolf in their right mind would cross into this mountain range. Chilly winds swept through the pass in waves. To make matters tougher, the wind was facing Ladonna. Any streams running through the Kinath were frozen. Patches of snow lied here and there. Dirt and soil was still quite visible on the ground as Ladonna walked. She shivered with every passing breeze. She tried her best not to think about the cold. But what else could she think about? Happy memories with the childhood family? Ha. Time spent with a good friend? A funny conversation? She had no family. No pack. No friends. This whole “divert your attention to something else” was proving to be quite difficult…
Finally, a thought surfaced. A memory, and a warm one, literally. She was in Aveline. It was the perfect day, probably a year ago. She laid there in the grass, letting the sun shine down on her brown fur. Such a lazy, beautifully long day that was… Much more desirable than the harsh winter weather rolling in from the north… The only thing her inner voice could say to encourage her was “you did this once, you can do it again.”
