Large black paws kissed the frozen ground with each calculated step. The Arctic male had finally worked up the courage to make the final leg of his journey to Selunari Expanse, the entrance to the home of Ultoris - the entrance to his home. Although he would never admit it, the truth was that Fury had stationed himself about a half mile away from the entrance that divided Aleru from the unclaimed lands of I'queyer for almost a week. That's about how long ago his withdrawal symptoms had been reduced to the point that he could bear them. At first, he was eager to return to his pack - and he still was - but nerves of rejection were taking over his common sense. In reality, Ultoris wasn't really his pack anymore. From word of mouth, he had discovered that one of his warriors, Severus, had taken the Alpha position. All in all, Fury could not be sure what the reaction of his return would be, but he knew that he owed his family (or whoever was left of it) an explanation for his disappearance.
It had been the most difficult decisions Fury had ever been faced with - should he abandon his pack in order to keep himself sane or should he stay and attempt to better his own well-being while also maintaining a steadily growing pack of wolves. In the end, though, his choice was clear. The physical pain and mental instability that had come upon him with such merciless force was so great that he could no longer perform his Alpha duties to the extent that his pack deserved. So, with a wave of grief, the black wolf left his pack without a word in hopes that they would find another way to survive.
Now, though, he was finally ready to go back. His pain was minimal, his senses were sharper than ever, and the insomnia and hallucinations were long gone. The only health related problem that he could think of that could possibly get in his way of performing well for Ultoris was his age, but even that wasn't slowing him down just yet. All it meant right now was that grey fur was evident throughout his pelt. Another slight appearance change was the nasty looking scar across his left eye which was evidence of one of many psychotic Anikira-native loner wolves who wanted to kill him. A little scar didn't mean much to Fury though.
Finally, standing before the giant opening to the underground world that he hadn't stepped foot into in over a year, he knew what he had to do. Gently, he tilted his head back and let out a long, low pitched howl that would echo through the cave system and undoubtedly reach his recipient. "My Severus, I have returned. Please come to meet me at the very entrance of the mighty Aleru." Severus was the only wolf within Ultoris worth talking to at this very moment. Although he didn't know why his beta hadn't taken over the throne, the fact was that Severus was in charge here. And when you need to discuss something regarding a pack, you always speak to the wolf in charge.
Preparing for the conversation about to take place, Fury stood tall and proud, yet somewhat conservative and with high amounts of respect in his posture. He wasn't one to trespass, and he hoped Severus was at least a tiny bit welcoming to his former Alpha. He had no idea what was going to happen in terms of the fate of Ultoris after his return, but he did know one thing: not everyone was going to be happy with him. In fact, he doubted that anyone would even be the slightest bit okay with their alpha abandoning them without warning. All he could do was explain himself and hope for some forgiveness.
