A Change in Loyalty [Joining/Open]

Since Valyn had taken the reins, Galathe had felt more and more like an outcast. Unlike his half-siblings, he was not adorned with the iconic golden markings along with them looking at him as nothing more but an immature pup. He was larger than quite a few of them and was a lot more loyal to their father than them all, it seemed! But... But was he actually loyal at all now? It would seem that the elderly father of many was close to an inevitable death, meaning that all of Galathe's immediate family was soon to be dead. A dead wolf did not make for the best leader and it seemed that Descai was no more, now replaced with Valyn. It was confusing and Galathe did not want to have to deal with such confusion. It seemed that what was meant to gain respect simply made Descai-Valyn view him as some stubborn youth.

He held no true resentment towards Valeria, not really. In fact, he respected the female for achieving what she had achieved; females were less of an object to Galathe now, not just accessories or pets. They could lead as well, it seemed, and get through harsh times. However, his mutual respect towards his half sister did not equate to loyalty to the Seraphim. And, from Vorilye's failing health, it seemed that he had stopped holding such respect towards him as well. What was the point of earning the respect of someone who thought that you were an angsty pup and was soon no longer for the world? Too much effort all for nothing.

To add, Galathe felt that he did not have a future in Valyn. He was in its leader's bad books, not seen for his true potential as a warrior. He knew that he was strong, that he could fight. If only someone could notice that! Was that too much to ask for, to be acknowledged for innate talent? Did he really have to join another pack just to gain that recognition?

And that brought him back to the present. He was standing just outside of Aleru, the place where a pack known as Ultoris resided. Rumours had been told to Galathe of an underground pack, perking his interest. How was that to work, underground? This Ultoris was probably more unknowing of Galathe than any other pack due to their subground isolation. It was the exact image of a fresh start. Now wholly decided on it, the Mackenzie Valley dominant let out a howl, calling for the Alpha of this scarcely seen pack.

[Captain]

Captain had settled down into the corner of the den that he claimed as his. His tail tucked around for warmth and his muzzle nuzzled under his paws. Usually, he would be out exploring, meeting up with pack members, or making sure the pack lands were safe from intruders. But, today was an unusual day. He had decided to stay in and relax, having a lazy day for once. His mind was on Myth, as usual. The snowy white female that had managed to steal his attention in just a matter of days. She had just joined the pack and found herself with the title of healer.

Before he could go too far into his thoughts though, a howl rang through the caves, snapping his attention back to reality. It was a voice he had never heard before and instantly he found himself on his feet heading towards the source of the sound. As he moved he found himself hoping it was a wolf looking to join and not a wolf looking to start any trouble. Things had been smooth and easy going for his pack and he hoped they would continue to be so. Once he found the male that had the made the call, his nerves relaxed, for he was standing in a calm and submissive stance, not the way a wolf looking for trouble for stand.

“Greetings, new comer,” Captain greeted him with a brief nod. “My name is Captain, beta of Ultoris,” he introduced himself with slight pride. “What brings you to our lands? Perhaps looking to join are you?” he asked tilting his head. After his question, he fell quiet waiting for the other to respond. He hoped he would say yes but, he still kept his guard up in case the male was looking for something else.

Not long after Galathe had howled, a monochrome male approached. The stranger was noticeably shorter than the loner male, Galathe noticed, but he did not comment. The newcomer's name was Captain, it was revealed, and he was, to the mixed breed's surprise, the Beta of Ultoris. He was so small! Sure, if he had an everyday rank, it would not have been so surprising, but the Beta? Vorilye and Valeria both led packs and they had been significantly larger than Captain. Sure, Captain was only the Beta, but Galathe would have assumed that Betas would be of similar stature. Clearing his head of the thoughts, the multihued brute answered the other wolf's question.

"You would be correct in assuming that I am looking to join, Beta." Wondering how he should phrase his joining pitch, Galathe ran through his abilities. He was an innately talented warrior, yes. However, most packs had talented warriors—perhaps not particularly talented warriors, though... "As for what I can offer Ultoris, well, I consider myself to be talented in battle. If you wish me to, I could hunt or heal, although I am not particularly skilled in the art of catching prey and neither do I know anything about plants."

The mottled Mackenzie Valley dominant assumed that what he had put on offer would be enough to gain him acceptance into this strangely underground pack, although perhaps Ultoris was doing very well, or perhaps they had specific criteria or standards that Galathe just did not meet. After a brief bout of worry, the large male decided that, if he was turned down, he could always just seek out another pack. The thought of a religious pack was interesting so perhaps he could seek out Eden should Ultoris not be the place for him. After all, it was unlikely that Valyn would take him back after everything that he had done.

However, none of that was to worry about at that moment. At that moment, Galathe's only concern would be what words came out of the Beta's mouth in reply to the taller wolf.

[Captain]

Quietly, Captain stood in front of the new male while he waited for him to talk. The expression that crossed his face left Captain feeling slightly annoyed. Even though no words had been spoken, it was almost as if the wolf was looking down on him. Why he would, Captain didn’t know but he could only assume that it was because of the size difference between the two. The silver wolf was a good eleven inches shorter than the other male but, Captain knew height meant little to nothing at all. The tallest of wolves could have no skills or smarts at all while the smaller wolves could have a ton of skills and could be very logical. Height was a simple part of physical appearance, nothing more.

It was then that the wolf finally spoke up, causing the beta’s ears to perk with interest. He had been right in assuming that the wolf wished to join and was happy to see that the pack would be gaining yet another member. “Very well,” he said with a nod. Before he could ask what the wolf was good at, he began answering his unspoken question. It was clear to see that he wished to be a warrior, despite offering to fill other roles if need be. “No need to worry,” Captain told him before elaborating, “We can always use more warriors so if fighting is where your skills are and it is a warrior you wish to be then I have no problem accepting you within the rank of such,” he nodded. “I do believe though, that before I can properly accept you into our pack, I should at least know your name,” the beta said when he realized the male had yet to introduce himself. Captain would never allow a wolf he knew nothing about to join the pack. That could easily prove to be a deadly mistake.

[Severus]

The Alpha was getting ready to go seek out Wraith so that the two could begin another training session when all of the sudden, a howl stopped the Tundra brute in his tracks. “Another wolf seeking acceptance,” the brute asked himself. It seemed as if every day as of recently, there was a new wolf who was seeking acceptance into his pack. It was as if it was just yesterday when Severus had taken over Ultoris after the former Alpha, Fury, abandoned it. They were very few in numbers and it seems like their numbers continued to dwindle until it was just Severus and Vixen left. If someone were to have told Severus that there would be such an influx of members eventually back then, he would have just laughed in their face. Yet here he was on his way to the pack’s borders to go greet another possible new member.

A fresh scent that was coming from inside the cave itself notified the Tundra brute that it appeared that his Beta, Captain, had already set out to greet the newcomer. Since Captain was taking care of this meeting, there wasn’t really a need for Severus to go greet the wolf himself. The Alpha completely trusted his Beta and knew that Captain would make the right decision, but even so, with as busy as he has been, this might be the only time for a while that he could communicate with whoever the howl belonged to, so he might as well take the opportunity while it was there. Plus, Severus and Wraith had all day for training and he knew that she would understand why they would be getting such a late start.

The ebony and ivory took off at a decent paced trot towards the Selunari Expanse which was where the pack’s borders were located and not before too long, his brown orbs were greeted by the site of two wolves, one of which was much bigger than the other. Once being at a comfortable distance by the two, Severus came to a halt and bowed in the direction that the new comer was standing. He had gotten there just in time to hear that brute was seeking out the Warrior rank. Severus had to give the brute his size but despite that, he appeared to be but a year old, the same age of his offspring.

The Alpha had just made the decision recently, when he started Wraith’s training that all yearlings would have to go through training before they could acquire the rank that they desired and Severus had yet to let his pack members know of his decision. “I hate to interrupt your all’s conversation but greetings stranger, I am Severus, the Alpha of Ultoris. I overheard that you’d like the rank of a Warrior. Before I can grant you the rank, you will have to go through training with all the yearlings,” Severus notified the brute before turning his attention to Captain. “Nice to see you, Captain and I once again apologize for interrupting you, I have been meaning to tell you the news of my decision, but I haven’t had the time to do so,” he said has he gave a polite smile to his Beta.

A multihued head bobbed in acknowledgement as Captain told Galathe that indeed he could assume a warrior position. Then the Beta went on to ask for the newcomer's name, which he promptly provided.

"Of course, Captain. My name is Galathe." The polite part of him urged to add 'my bad' somewhere in the statement, but why would he make himself seem as if he had been wrong?

He had no time to mull over the 'what ifs', however, as another figure, looking slightly smaller than even Captain. The latest addition to the small gathering introduced himself as Severus, but also more surprisingly, as the Alpha. Having been raised in Descai with the towering Vorilye as an Alpha along with Valeria being the only other leader that Galathe had seen, he had always assumed that those who led packs were of a large enough size to have considerable brawn over others, however it seemed that not all Alphas were the same.

Galathe overcame his surprise in time to catch the Alpha of Ultoris' words about training. Apparently him and the 'yearlings' would have to undergo some sort of schooling before they were granted a full rank in the pack. Should've seen that coming. Well, training it is then, I guess. That would be okay. He would prove himself superior to the average youth, more worthy of the Warrior title than them, surely?

"That sounds good to me, sir," the mottled brute replied, testing out the title of respect on his tongue to gauge Severus' reaction. Perhaps it would do his reputation good. Whatever needed to be done in order for him to prove himself, he would do. It would pay off in the end, when he was respected by his superiors and looked up to by the lower wolves in Ultoris. That was something that Descai-Valyn could never have given him, but Ultoris would, and Galathe would make sure of that. He could make something of himself, a small legacy, something left when he eventually departed life as he knew it, and that legacy would likely be in the very pack whose lands he was standing upon at that moment.

[Captain]

Though Captain could tell that the wolf in front if him was young, perhaps a year old, he had no problem giving him the rank of a warrior if that was what he seeked to have. Captain had seen plenty young wolves with decent if not good talent and with the wolf’s height and stance, he fully believed he would be one of them. Even if he proved to not be a good warrior, Captain could always push him back down to the rank of a subordinate until he had time to train and work on his skills.

However, before Captain could officially accept him into the pack, a familiar scent his nose, causing him to bow his head in respect as his alpha walked up next to him. The silver male stood quietly as Severus spoke, listening careful to all the things he had to say. Captain had no idea about the new rule that had been put in place but he knew it was a good idea and he would make sure to remember it in the future whenever he accepted a young wolf.

Captains ears perked as Severus turned his attention to him. “As always, it is a pleasure to see you as well, alpha,” Captain nodded before continuing, “And don’t worry about interrupting, I don’t mind at all. It is your pack after all.” As alpha, Severus had the right to jump into any and all conversations regarding the pack and Captain certainly respected that. “But, I’m afraid I must be going,” he nodded before adding, “It was a pleasure to meet you Galathe, and welcome to Ultoris. If you ever need anything feel free to come find me.” With that, he turned and walked out, giving his alpha one last bow and letting him know that he would find him later.
