He did not have a choice. He had to check things out to make sure they were safe before Anima gave birth. He knew that his brother had gotten her pregnant, and from her obvious interest in the new territory during the expansion, he had no doubt that she would want to give birth here. But he had to make sure that it was safe first. He would have done it for any of the pack members, but Anima's offspring were his blood, they were his nieces and nephews. He had to make sure they would not be at risk here. His paws carried him quickly over the icy landscape, unsure of which direction he was going until he finally came to a stop at a large collection of frozen caverns. This was the first place in all of Cryothia that he could see fitting enough for giving birth. Caverns were always a fairly secure place, as long as he ensured they were empty before anyone decided to use them for the future of the pack. He paused briefly at the entrance, inhaling deeply and narrowing his eyes to peer into the darkness that was the caverns.
He was likely putting himself in danger here, entering a strange place alone, but he had to make sure that it was empty before Anima found her way here. So, instead of heading back for some backup, he pushed forward and into the darkness. His paws carried him slowly now, step by step into the depths of the caverns and further into the shadows. His nose acted as his guide now as his eyes gradually adjusted to the lack of light, but soon enough it was clear that no other living creatures called this place home. He did not smell any new or old trails leading in or out from the entrance, therefore it was perfectly logical to assume that no other animals called this place home. There was a partially melted stream running in tiny crevices in the ice here and there, sufficient enough to provide water for mothers and pups, but not enough to be a source for the entire pack. Thankfully they also still held onto their original home. Mothers could come here and give birth or remain there by the beaches to birth their pups. They would be safe in both locations, and he knew both himself and the other males would make sure of it.
For now, though, he turned around slowly in a wide section of the caverns and headed back towards the light. Thankfully, the ice reflected a great portion of the light back and forth and throughout the caves, so it was not nearly as dark as other caverns on the continent. It would be a lovely place for their future generations, as long as they guarded it carefully and kept the area well marked. Speaking of which, as soon as the male exited the caves he proceeded to spread his scent around the entrance. He was not wasting any time here, nor would he take any risks. Ideally, he would like more pack scents here, but for now his alone would have to do. They would all cover Cryothia with Airila scents eventually, but he wanted to make sure that Anima and any other females that chose to give birth here would be safe and guarded well.
