After a tiring swim from Miera to the coast of Caurus, the salt water laden dame was exhausted, dirty, and parched for the second time since arriving on Anikira. While living and travelling alone was fast and uncomplicated, it seemed that the benefits of being able to travel freely among packlands would ultimately outweigh her need for fighting without banners. The land was too large and too divided to continue on this way. It became evident that Sadie would have to find allies before she could settle into the land.
She was not typically one who worried about her appearance but she was certain that the matted red pelt that used to shine so brightly in the sun was a hideous sight to behold. The girl needed yet another place to bathe and refresh herself, and if her senses were not lying to her, there was a large river just up ahead.
Her worn pads led her quickly to the edge of a deep and rushing river. It did not seem that there would be an easy way to wade into the icy waters from this point, perhaps from the opposite shore....
Her head swiveled from left to right, searching for a safe place to cross so that she may not be swept away in the torrent. Golden eyes picked out a solitary rock not far from where she stood. With a swish of her tail, Sadie turned her body towards the rock and urged herself forward, though her limbs were weary and nearly unwilling to move.
She could see from the shore that the stone was steadfast and large enough to support her size. It was wet, yes, but the red woman was certain that she would never slip. With only a moment of preparation, Sadie bunched her muscles and leapt for the rock, making the jump in a single bound that landed her gracefully in the center of the rock; first her front two legs, then her hindlegs. Claws scraped desperately at the rock until she got a solid grip on the wet stone. Unfortunately, she could see from this angle that the opposite shore was just out of reach from the stone.
Brow furrowed with frustration, Sadie searched the shore for any possible way of escape. Just a couple of feet away, a large dead tree jutted out into the water just past her leaping radius. She leaned forward to see if she could reach but felt herself slipping and had to pull herself back. A sigh escaped her lips.
How could she have been so foolish? She was a grown woman who was incapable of safely crossing a river? How ridiculous! Her mind was racing, thoughts teasing her furious brain as it struggled to find a solution. Perhaps if she waited long enough she could find a large stick or something to pull the dead log closer? But even then she could fall....
