"Don't pretend you've been here for me," Typhon growled under his breath, shaking his head to clear it. "You told me to get over it and then went silent. Some savior you are." The sharp words were full of pain as he spoke them, essentially to himself, but it was a voice in his head that answered.
There is no reasoning with you, when you grieve, the voice bit back, its tone much calmer and less hateful that the wolf's. I gave you space, which you needed, and now I am here to pick you back up from the mess you have become. You took the first step thanks to your Uncle, and now I will drag you the rest of the way. It'd be easier if you would pick up your own feet.
The tawny brute ignored the voice again, though it was harder than when he had been young. Fenrir had spoken to him many times, given him advice and tips, but after the Agoge and his conquest of Valyn, the voice had begun to fade, gotten softer and less insistent. As he stepped through the swamp now, however, it was loud and clear as it had been before, and much more annoying. "You helped make me that mess, you know," he said coldly, glaring at the vines that swung about his face. "I lost my parents, and you did nothing. I know you're capable of more than being obnoxious."
A haunting chuckle danced behind Typhon's eyes, though it didn't come from the giant himself. You young fool. Moments like the one on the beach are meant to strengthen you, in the end, it cooed, and a warm feeling accompanied the voice this time, much like when Ty had been attacked by the eagle on Vor'asa. Out of his control, Typhon's face smoothed and his green eyes closed momentarily in bliss, something he had not felt in weeks. His feet slowed and his body came to a stop, weaving slightly before he sat down, his muscles so relaxed that he had no other choice.
You have done well, my child, and this is your reward. But there is work yet to be done, and you must honor me with your efforts. The voice now was low and seductive, seeping into the closed-off regions of the young wolf's mind with ease now that he was so relaxed. Kairos has not fallen from its graces yet, but if you do not strengthen the base, it will topple. You must go to the Agoge and train the next generation before they can no longer be molded.
A soft sigh left Typhon's lips as the feeling began to fade and business came back to the forefront of his mind. The male didn't realize how tired he had been, even after his talk with Sabaoth; bathing and joking with his uncle had been a treat, and calmed him considerably, but the exhaustion still had a hold on him, and temporary relief was not enough. "Fine," he muttered, opening his eyes again and stretching his legs out before rising once more, a yawn parting his massive jaws. "Just... promise you won't leave me again," he added much more quietly, his face falling into a frown as he stared at the ground. Loathe as he was to admit it, the voice had become a close friend to him during his puphood, and not hearing it during his lowest time had damaged him.
I promise you nothing, it replied coldly, and then, more kindly: But have faith, and be the leader you need to be. I will not abandon you until there is nothing more you can do for me. A chill ran through Ty at the last statement, and he set his face with determination; lifting his feet once more, the wolf began again through the swamp, headed toward the shore and the future of Kairos.
