Time had passed too quickly for Roka to even fathom. She had blinked too often taking the time she had with her pups for granted and now they were gone. Each of them had in turn said their goodbyes and left to complete their Agoge. Taranis had expressed that he would not be returning to Ina'mos and Roka had a suspicion that Rhys was torn between leaving and staying. Liadan and Kegan would return soon though, as soon as they could. In a few days time Sabaoth would be returning to Vor'asa so that he could oversee the youth as they trained for the next stretch of life. He was as good a teacher as they could hope for and Roka knew that he would look after their children well enough. He would have been there now had Odara not gone into labor. Roka had stayed away from the den's as much as she could since their birth's not wanting to infringe on the new mother's space. Balthazaar and Cimeries were always eager to leave the dark caverns that had been their prison for so long and Roka was happy to oblige them. Each was growing more and more independent with each passing day, becoming less pup and more youth. Though they were becoming less dependent upon each other she could tell that whatever bond they shred would only continue to grow. It made Roka glad that at least in this cold cruel world the two of them would always have each other, even when they outgrew the need for her as a mother. Roka knew that the time would come and they would no longer have to remain with her, she only hoped that they didn't hate her as they grew to be adults. All she had wanted was to save them from the hurt and humiliation of being orphans. A hurt that Roka knew all to well.
Looking back to the first time she had met Sabaoth she had never imagined that he would be such a good father. He had been such an angry brute, pushing and teasing Roka, but from the moment she had birthed the little whelps he had been there. Patient and strong, everything that Roka had ever needed him to be. Pregnancy had been so overwhelming and terrifying that Roka could never have managed alone. Thank the heavens I never had to. Even with Odara's arrival and then pregnancy Sabaoth had always made their family a priority. Giving their children the time and love they craved. While she had struggled at first to accept the scarred brute she had never stood a chance against him. From them moment she had seen him, strutting into her life, she had known they were meant to be together. He would be here for a short time for Odara to regain her strength from the birth and then he would be gone again. He had his duties away from her and she tried very much to understand. This would be the first time she would be without both him and the pups since they had been born. Her only comfort was that she had Bal and Cim for at least a little longer. Odd as they were they brought so much joy into her life.
Today was one of the days that she allowed the pups to explore on their own, everywhere except the swamp. The alligators that dwelt there were simply too much for the pups to handle on their own. Bal was growing faster than Cim was his size almost as great as Rhys and Taranis. He had obviously taken after his father in that sense. He was grown enough to look after Cimeries for a few hours, taking the job very seriously meant Roka knew he would do well. Liandry falls was her destination today as she visited the place where her and Sabaoth had first joined. While most of the romance of the place he picked had been lost on her she had enjoyed the view immensely. Warm memories flooded her mind when she remembered just how eager she had been to cement the bond between them. A litter had been the last thing she had expected but the realization had come shortly after. They had been a welcome consequence to the feelings that she and Sabaoth had shared that day, both physically and emotionally. It had been the first and only time she had ever felt something that strong, that real.
Making her way to the pool that lay just beneath the falls she let the chilling water spray against her. She leaned down to take a few drinks of the crisp liquid before looking around. It was almost spring time and the plants that surrounded the pool were just about ready to bloom. The air smelled sweet as little budding flowers greeted the warming sun. Today was probably the warmest that she would remember. It was very close to time for the rest of the world to start birthing their babes. Birds chirped and bugs clicked and they slowly made the turnover from winter to summer. A season that Roka hated for more reason than one. Mostly because of the unbearable heat it brought with it. The only good thing the summer had brought was her heat, coming at the wrong time of year. Roka wondered if her heat would come again during the summer months, like it wasn't supposed to. She secretly hoped that it did she that she would have some small chance at having another litter. Besides joining with Sabaoth was more than enough fun for her to enjoy it even if they made no pups.
Her mind chuckled at her for her wanton thoughts. She lusted after her male to be sure a thing that she had never thought possible. She found no appeal in the pretty little creature that seemed to prance about the island. They were all unmarked, untested. Her male carried the scars of strength and survival, a few that she had put there herself. He was the embodiment of male. Strong and brave and unhindered. Her body shuddered just thinking about him. Some chose to call him beast for his brutish looks, but Roka thought he was very attractive scars and all. Enough already. This is just making me miss him more. She depended on him much too much already. She craved to be with him all the time. Wanting to share all of herself with him. Her burdens and sorrow, her joys and loves, she wanted him to share everything too. Just so that she would feel that closeness with him. The vulnerability that she let no one else see. All these thoughts of her mate were making her delusional. She could swear that she had caught his scent, but it was impossible. He wouldn't be here.
