Bah, museless post.
---
The chilling wind swept across the plains, ruffling the two wolves' fur. The older, and slightly larger, one stood with her back to it, head dipped down, muzzle buried inside the body cavity of a deer. The smaller on was sheltered by her body, lying down beside her legs, and he too was gorging himself on freshly-killed prey.
The pair had spent the last forty-five minutes dragging themselves up the Endyt Beach, forcing themselves to trot inland, despite their fatigued bodies and dripping fur, and the fact that they had been chased by a rival pack and tossed about by the sea a few hours previously. Then, when they first encountered the Chamoru Plains, luck had granted them the sight and scent of a lone doe. They had moved in, the smaller wolf lunging and snapping at his prey, chasing it right into the deadly jaws of the larger female. Thus, after nearly four hours of hunger and exhaustion, they could replenish their energy.
Finally, the older wolf devoured a last piece of flesh and lay down, still shielding the other one with her body. "It was a good feast, indeed," she spoke to her young charge, looking at him lovingly. "Your hunting skills have certainly improved, dear."
The pup looked up, pride evident in his eyes; even though he could not see, he could still express emotion with them. "Thanks, Gilda. You were great, too – I can't believe how fast you took down the doe! I swear, that crunch when you broke its neck was really loud..." He stopped, snapped up a remnant of the liver on the ground, and licked his chops. ".. And I'm so full now. Have you eaten? You really should!"
The Mexican female nodded, then supplemented it with a "Yes" grunt. "I think we ought to rest for a while now. We've pretty much stripped the deer of the most nutritious parts, and the rest of the flesh can belong to whoever next comes along. What do you think, Kepheus?"
He replied with a nod. The pair stood up, almost simultaneously, and walked to a spot a few metres east of the carcass. Both lay down again, and soon, the young one was asleep.
