So none of them wanted to come with him, eh? Humph! So be it. Kadhi was better off without them. He was Aldgar's greatest hunter after all. Anyone who came with him would have just slowed him down. He didn't need their help. Nope. Didn't need their help at all.
Nose to the ground, he fruitlessly searched for a fresh scent trail. So far everything he'd come across was either stale or led much farther away from the pool than he wanted to go. All he had been hoping for was something alive enough to be an easy kill. He didn't really care what it creature it was, so long as it was something edible and wouldn't poison everyone. Why'd prey have to be so scarce? In such a well forested area with a clean water supply you'd think there'd be more to eat wandering around. Maybe everything was still hiding from when the Salen Alpha paid his little visit?
Kadhi let out a frustrated grunt as he wandered across stale trail after stale trail. This was soo lame! He was all alone and having no success. Or was he? The scent of elk suddenly hit his nares and he jerked his head up. He stood quietly, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the immediate area. The scent hadn't been very strong, but it was fresher than everything elsed he'd sniffed thus far. Breaking into a trot, he began to follow it.
The scent led him several hundred meters farther into the woodland than he would have liked to have traveled, but he was no more than half a mile from the pool at most. Peering through the brush, he couldn't help quietly muttering to himself. "Jackpot." Trapped it a rather thorny looking bush was a young elk. It wasn't exactly a baby, but it couldn't truely be called full grown either. The elk's hid leg was tangled amoung the thorns, the secent of blood filling the air as the poor creature struggled to get loose.
Smirking, the Arabian brute prowled into the clearing. The wind was on his side, and the elk was already too panicked to notice him. This would be a very easy kill. Carefully inching his way foreward, he lept towards the elk with a powerful leap. His teeth sunk into it's neck rather high, failing to make a killing blow. The elk startled though, and reared up in fear. Shaking it's neck, Kadhi was thrown to the ground. The crying creature still had figured how to break itself free yet though, and the small brute clambored as quickly to his feet as he could.
Now no longer worrying about the element of surprise, he made a second leap for the elk's neck. Sharp canines sunk into the delicate jugular, and Kadhi's grin nearly doubled in size as the warm blood entered his maw. He hung on for a minute or so as the elk struggled before letting himself drop to the ground. Several minutes later blood loss caused the elk to land with a thud as well. "Told 'em I was Aldgar's best hunter," he muttered, sizing up his prey. It was still caught in the thorn bush, but with a of patience and some brute strenght he was positive he could pull the easy catch free. His back hurt slightly from when he'd been thrown, but it was no more than a bruise and not enough to truely phase him.
Padding toward the rear end of the elk, Kadhi took the caught leg in his mouth and began to pull. The creature was stucker than he'd first though, and his brow knit in annoyance. The Arabian wasn't exactly a large creature, and therefore did not have the same strenght as a larger wolf. Still, he refused to give up.
After what seemed like forever (but was really only 37 minutes), Kadhi's pulling finally paid off. The leg, along with the annoying thorn plant, gave way and the brute tumbled backwards with an ompf. "Finally! Stupid bastard." He shook out his short fur before surveying the formerly trapped leg. The throny plant was still wrapped around it in some parts, refusing to let go. What part of the plant that did cling to the elk, however, was servered from the rest of the plant. "Hah. Serves it right the dumb plant."
With that, the small Arabian brute walked back to the front of the elk. He grabbed it by the right front flank, and began to drag it, walking backwards as he went. The others would be so impressed. The small, sharp tongued, dim-witted brute had caught an elk all on his own. Sure, it wasn't the biggest or smartest elk, but it was still an elk. When he showed up at the Nyspoli's pool with his prize, those "bitches" would regret ever deciding to go their own way. Kadhi definately was Aldgar's greatest hunter.
