Venturing away from where he'd last seen his parents, Xinelil yawned, revealing the opaque canines disguised beneath his blackened lips. It seemed like he'd been walking for ages, slowly moving away from his old home and the area that had most been destroyed by the humans. A lone fly buzzed around his ear. How it had managed to live through the winter confused Xin. That makes no sense. Die, you stupid insect! he thought, batting at the bug with his right front paw. The brute's ears pricked as he realized something. These lands...
There is no one here. They are not claimed. The realization was made when Xin smelled no scents of wolves. Perhaps the wolves of this area had gone into hiding as well. Either way, it pleased him. This land would be his. He could make his own start, forge a new path. His parents would no longer be in charge... He would be!
Xinelil raised his head and let out a long, drawn-out claiming howl. "These are my lands. Any who step here must have my approval. This belongs to the Aldgar Pack!" He smiled proudly. What would his parents have to say now? Raising his hind leg to scratch his ear, Xin now realized his responsiblities. He would have to lead, be in charge of others. That is, if anyone would follow him...
With a smug look into the trees, Xin realized that he had a lot of work to do. Once wolves started emerging from hiding and swimming back over to the land mass, there would likely be mass hysteria. He needed to find dens, become familiar with his territory... Gosh, this is a lot more work that I first thought. He sighed, his body trembling from the cold weather and bitter winds. Perhaps these lands had been claimed before, perhaps not. Either way, someone would have to fight to get it away from him.
What exactly had driven him to take such a leap, to do something he'd never done before? Maybe it was his need to show that he was self-sufficient from his family. To prove to them that he could survive on his own, without them looking over his shoulder every second. Or maybe it was just his naturally dominant driven attitude...
Another shiver and a yawn brought Xinelil back into reality. Puffing his chest out and scanning the horizon, he strutted off towards the rest of his lands. He needed to know them up and down. The prey in the forests was good to see, as it showed they had a good source of prey to support what he hoped to eventually be his pack. The sound of wind-blown water caught his attention, and he darted off through the woods towards what he hoped would be another source of food, fish, for the pack.
