Siscarm sighed.[/i] It was brief, but still complex enough to convey his intent. Without waiting or a reply, not really figuring that he needed one, the elder began to descend from the stone face. As he headed west, then south, the horizon gave birth to another day behind him, unwilling to do so with his own eyes watching. The elder no longer cared about what he had been expectantly watching for the past hour and a half, there was more interesting things to see and do, and if there was something that allowed his mind to roam and take control, it was the pursuit of knowledge that had cause everything so far, and everything to continue.[/size][/blockquote]
He was about as close to the peak as he could be while still keeping the ability of free movement. Considering it was summer, the ice that had generally kept the middle reaches impassible was no longer in such a critical mass, although its existence was essentially perpetual. Even so, he wasn't up too high, there wasn't nearly enough heat to allow access to the upper reaches. There generally wasn't.
"It's late. Why is it always late."
Siscarm sort of grunted, rather displeased. His feet were perched oddly on the uneven ground, not comfortable by any right, but very sturdy, and stability was priority given the situation. It would be a better situation to be perched like a bird than comfortably falling, and given the distance to ground level, there would be ample time to consider why the other option was better. However, contrary to most wolves, he was in better shape a good few thousand feet up than he was on the ground. The mountain air, thinner by that much, didn't irritate his lungs with pollen and pollutants, and he had not had to stop for a breath since the base. The exercise, though tiring, had allowed his body an excellent opportunity to get used to the movements that summer had freed up. His eyes, however, were far more rigid than his body, they remained transfixed on the horizon, which was glowing a light red colour. Each beam of light that peaked over was like a strand of coloured ink, staining the clouds that drifted close enough to be afflicted.
The elder wolf sighed again. His knees began to feel weary from the lengthy period that he'd been this high up. The change in environment was one thing, with healthy air and terrain adding to that, but he was still aging just as any other animal did in due time. Everything on the earth aged, even the earth itself, sunrise, sunset. That is, if the horizon saw fit to grace the world with the former, as it had been negligent to do over the past while. It felt almost like a full 24 hours since he'd climbed up to greet the new day, but the new day didn't seem interested in greeting him. Perhaps it had gotten lost along the way. Siscarm sniffed an isolated laugh, a rather common thing for him, slightly amused by the prospect. Perhaps there was a good story to tell in it, if anyone was bothering to tell it.
A slight noise reaches his ears, and Siscarm turned away from his previous habit of motionlessness, his nose following his ears as if they were one being. It was a howl, not too far away, but the vertical distance was a bit much, and the wolf had to strain his ears to discern the words. It was simple, and to the point. Siscarm turned back to the east, staring for a few seconds more before losing interest in his task. If it was late this far, it'd continue doing so. Maybe there was something wrong with his internal clock. Either way, a hunt would keep his mind off of it, he may not be in the best shape, but most other greys his age were completely unable to do these things.
Siscarm jumped down to the small overcropping of stone that was a few inches down, which had served as a fallback in case he got tired. He stood for a moment, pondering his actions, deciding what they would result in, before he turned his muzzle to the sky.
"I will join you, Aldgar, if it is in your interests."
