Old, old red brown eyes stared out at the view. Although they may be of some age, they were still capable of carrying a twinkle about them. “It’s simply marvelous this place! I dare say it’s one of the best places we’ve visited thus far.” Mother Yana exclaimed to any who were around to listen. Her eyes were peering out over the seemingly endless ocean. In the distance, the first of the land masses were visible. That would be their way out when the time came to pack up and move on, provided they were still there. Mother Yana shuddered at the thought of being stuck on an island where all the wolves were out to get them for their tricks and thievery. It had never happened, but now was not the time to become reckless. If worse came to worse, the vacant areas around the northern area of this island would hide them well enough. Throwing out the dour thoughts, the mangy she-wolf smiled broadly once more.
“I do hope our Sir Larkspur returns shortly! It is always exciting to learn about the other packs we come into contact with, is it not?” The smoky white colored female turned to peer behind her flag waving softly. Taking in a raspy breath, for she over worked her windpipes by talking too much too fast, Mother Yana’s elderly optics spotted a blob out in the distance. Turning fully around to face the red colored blob, her tail waved a little happier. Was is it their Sir Larkspur? The thing was too far out in the distance for Mother Yana to see properly, but that did not stop her from hobbling forward on feeble, arthritis joints. When the blob was closer, due to each party closing the distance, Mother Yana gave a short bark to the band. "Sir Larkspur has returned to us! Come let us hear what he has to say.” She yipped in an elderly voice that was able to carry on the back of the wind.
“Tell us Sir Larkspur! What news do you bring your family?” Mother Yana asked with that twinkling in her red brown eyes as she observed him with an excited smile. Although their work was not exactly ‘clean,’ Mother Yana did rather enjoy meeting the pack wolves they encountered. She learned nearly as much from them as they did from her. Well, she usually did when she could hear and see them but that is another matter. “Do not keep me waiting, youngling. I wish to hear what you have to say before my old age catches up to me.” Her voice was still sweet and elderly, but there was that biting edge she sometimes had. Mother Yana did not like wasting time much. If she wished to know information, then the information had best be said as quickly as possible. There was no time on this earth to dillydally about. Finished with her chastisement, Mother Yana withdrew another raspy breath of air.
