Suddenly, it seemed, the gypsy band transitioned from a lull of inactivity to just the opposite. Everyone was up and about and talking and the abrupt excitement of the situation swelled in Lan's veins until it reached the point where he could hardly stand still. He shifted his weight restlessly, just barely containing himself among the group. Firstly his attention feebly turned toward Dreidoj as he criticized this black female, saying, “Rhyanne, you should know better. You have much more important duties here. You’ll get to see these new lands in due time,” which seemed to be immediately followed by further chastising from the leading female, Mirela, whom Lan seemed to notice for only the first time throughout this semi-meeting. "She is right, you know. Think before you act, Rhyanne. You know nothing about the terrain of this continent, what really makes you think that you can safely journey to these lands? I would prefer it if Lan were to journey there with you, since he seems to know where it is and just what he's talking about- for once, I might add." Both of these statements were just regurgitations of Mother Yana’s earlier words, though Lan hardly noticed. His grin simply grew wider with each reprimand, for once not on the receiving end, and by the time Mirela had finished off her tirade with that last statement—a jibe toward Lan—he couldn’t help but snicker. After all, he was all for light banter, even if it was somewhat insulting. In this case, Mirela directed her comment toward Lan’s constant jabbering about nothing—which was the truth, as Lan often talked so much that the majority of the time it was just meaningless chatter. However, he merely reacted with a muttered, “Good one,” between chuckles. He wasn’t about to defend himself against the truth, and besides, the meeting was moving much too fast for him to shove his two cents in; before he knew it, Mother Yana was speaking again, then Dreidoj, then Mirela, but yet Lan much preferred this rapid pace to their previous sluggish one, and still he caught the gist of the conversation. Mother Yana was merely yammering on again, directing most of her comments to another male that Lan did not know the name of, and besides that, it was the two leaders’ words that caused Lan to backtrack. In truth, he only caught the last bit of Dreidoj’s sentence, but yet it still caused him to buzz with ebullience. …‘Soul Sucker’ Lan, and you shall be the one to lead us all to it.”
Never before had Lan heard the words ‘lead’ and his name in the same sentence, and such a suggestion almost caused him to wiggle like a small pup, but he restrained himself, for once not wanting to hinder this opportunity with a lapse of maturity. Instead he said with a smug nonchalance, “Will do, boss,” and flashed a toothy grin before his head whipped around toward Mirela as she spoke, her words only furthering Lan’s delighted anticipation. "…leave as soon as possible. Who knows what sort of opportunities lie in these new lands?" The fact that they were leaving sooner rather than later was, for Lan, enough to jump for joy. He had been awaiting some event like this to spur him into activity, and now, here it was, close enough for him to taste.
Of course, you could always count on Mother Yana to spoil the mood with her raspy voice—yeesh, she talked more than Lan did! Certainly not a feat easily accomplished, though admittedly, Lan spoke far less than usual today—no surprise with Mother Yana present. After all, a newbie member could hardly get a word in, especially with her, it seemed. “…shall all go? Excellent, excellent! …bold move, but we… excitement! Some of us don’t get any ‘excitement’ anymore!” She cackled. “…plenty of daylight… their lands, we can ask for a place to stay… work our magic!”
Lan faded in and out throughout her entire speech, more so waiting for her to finish rather than actually absorbing to the information, and when she finally had, Lan opened his mouth to give his input…
…Only to be interrupted by the disgruntled voice of Sir Larkspur. "Well, then I am of no use to be following as well. I can't take my job literally if the whole group is on my toes." He turned, clearly pissed about something or other that Lan was much too egotistical to care about. All he gathered was the fact that Lark may not be accompanying them in their congregation, which was no skin off Lan’s back. In truth, his company did not matter; just as long as he was going. But still, Lark continued ranting on, to Lan’s disappointment. What did it take to get a word in around here?! "So count me out of this adventure you all are going on, I can find a different place to discover and meet up with you later."
He finished then, and finally Lan was given enough of an opening to announce with a smug eagerness, “So can the rest of us leave now? Right now? I mean, we can talk on the way.” Satisfied with his suggestion, Lan rose to his feet, preparing to move. Clearly he was not expecting to be denied.
